Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Wendy del Formaggio:

efd, I love these WNYU airchecks. When I was listening most consistently, Hugh was the host of The New Afternoon Show. I was but a wee girl!
  10:24pm Motobro:

I remeber almost all of those NYU promos. I think the show was already 3 hours when I first found it.
Especially the Wanders Ready to Snap one.
You turned me onto that excellent tune as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Scrap.:

I LOVE THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME!!!
  10:25pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

I couldn’t always pick up WNYU in NJ but IIRC, it was still on the air in the 90s right?
  10:26pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

I meant the New Afternoon Show was still on the air in the 90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Scraps:

I requested it on Uncle Michael’s All-Request show, even
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm efd:

it's still on the air now! It's evolved some since my era. :)
  10:26pm CC:

GW that is simply two faces with a circle smiling on either side... or something like that...:)0(:...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Fuzzy:

WCOZ, then into the Navy and 91X for me. This music is making my hair grow back, I think.
  10:27pm gw:

N A S is on the air still , every weekday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@Jeff, I was listening to The New Afternoon Show from about 1987 to early 1991, so I can vouch for that.
  10:27pm geo in jc:

@Wendy, I remember efd, Aida, Hugh Foley, John Fox.. Anyone else you recall?
Avatar 10:30pm Andrew S:

i neverr lived close enough to hear wnyu on terrestrial radio so i discovered it around the same time as i did wfmu, I was very late to the game, think Realplayer. I used to listen to NYC (and other cities) AM stations at night on the radio because they would carry for hundreds ad hundreds of miles but only at night
  10:30pm gw:

Naomi , loscalzo , timmy sommer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@geo. No. I have nothing else to offer. NYU didn't come in consistently at my childhood home in Morris County. I bounced back and forth between NYU and FMU, too. And my own records and stuff.
  10:32pm CC:

oh wow man I think I messed up I thought this was downtown soulville...:)0(:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm listener 126464:

Go4 was scheduled to play fast lane in asbury park but supposedly bailed out at soundcheck and bush tetras played 3 sets instead
Avatar 10:34pm TDK60:

I listen to WNYU sometimes; interesting shows; split signal with WFDU in Teaneck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm efd:

@steveL I would but I'm afraid the records would skip!

too bad radio is something playing in the background for most people. Shows like this remind me of the vitality of radio and why it's always been my favourite medium. I "should" be working but all my senses are glued to this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm Scraps:

I saw the Bush Tetras in Seattle! Around 1981... when KYYX (I think) was briefly a new wave station. I was heartbroken when they stopped
Swag For Life Member 10:51pm Julie M:

Ahhhhh. Gary Numan, that's the stuff. Now I'm twenty again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm efd:

  10:54pm gw:

Oh yeah , whats next, Konk? Spandau Ballet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Scraps:

Why “Cars” was a smash but “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?” wasn’t (in America, that is) I’ll never understand.

One new afternoon show stands out over all. One day the then barely known Pogues came in and played for what seemed like the whole. Absolutely gripping. I had heard of them but didn’t really know. Then I did.

Hypno-land is where I'm headed. What a great show. Thanks, Evan!
  11:43pm Jim Allen:

Oh yeah, Cyclones! I actually just met their bassist Marc Seligman a few weeks ago. I think I unnerved him with my knowledge of his early '80s activities. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Kat in Chicago:

I might still have my original beat-to-shit 45 of "Rescue"
  11:46pm Motobro:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm efd:

I feel like playing the Cosmopolitans would be a conflict of interest, not that I see a single penny from anything I'd play (and, for that matter, not that there are even pennies to be seen!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Gaylord Fields:

I’m no longer hangry for great music, thanks to efd!
