  4:42pm JasonInBoston:

Talking Heads: Fear of Music is my favorite LP. "I Zimbra" is a dancefloor KILLER! I also love "Born Under Punches". You can't go wrong with the early stuff and also check out "Deep Sleep" by B52s and the My Life in the Bush of Ghosts LP Byrn/Eno. "Regiment" is amazing. Talking Heads / Tom Tom Club and that whole Compass Point Studios era of music is soooo damn good. Also check this:
  4:42pm David & Shirlé:

My gateway drug to the Talking Heads was 'More Songs about Buildings & Food' which is a great record. Although, my faves are 'Fear of Music' & 'Remain In Light' which followed 'More Songs...'
  4:42pm michaelz:

This is such a cool anxious song. Clara Luciani looks like she stepped out of the sixties in this picture. How great you found her for us Sheila.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Passaic River Blues:

Aaaah, that Cardigans cover is delightful!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Adrian in London:

@Phillippe Bastille No, au contraire

S'ok. Need it sometimes. (it's boo, like i scare you. not poo, like what's on bottom of shoe.)
  4:58pm Lana B:

Just thought a mention for Tina Weymouth and Tom Tom Club would fit into your playlist.

YEAAAAAH! Jones Girls! Philly International! Love this. This is the kind of groove I've been in for the past several months.
Avatar 5:00pm djsheilab:

Thanks Lana B.! I played new Tom Tom Club (well, from 2012) a few weeks back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Michael 98145:

this music is timeless
Avatar 5:00pm djsheilab:

JasonInBoston—Me too! I'm loving this sound right now. Do you know "Year Of Decision" by the Three Degrees? So smooth + uplifting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Crudbringer:

Sheila B spins the platters that make the patriarchy quake!
Avatar 5:01pm djsheilab:

Crudbringer—Well said! Love it!
Avatar 5:02pm jillydg:

Sheila, the film Casey mentions is arguably the best concert film ever. Find the biggest screen you can and watch it in the dark, like a theater. You'll also see the Tom Tom Club at work, if you can call it that. There's an interview Janet Maslin did with David Byrne and director Jonathan Demme that you can find on youtube well worth watching for insight into their documentary process.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Adrian in London:

IIRC I've asked for this premium. Good choice, by the sound of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Michael 98145:

what jillydg just said

Deep Cuts Disco DJ Shelia B is very nice
Avatar 5:04pm djsheilab:

jillydg—Thanks! It's on my list!
Avatar 5:05pm djsheilab:

Adrian In London—It is flawless!!!
Avatar 5:05pm Dano59:

hoping to see D. Byrne this summer at my favorite amphitheatre in Canandaigua, he's doing some TH material on tour and his new album is pretty fab.

Saw David Byrne in basement of waning days of Save the Robots. I knew who he was, but I didn't appreciate him as much as I do now. Was just some random night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Michael 98145:

@DJ Sheila, i was just gonna say that :)

Avatar 5:29pm northguineahills:

@βrian: That's how they pronounce it down here, I had to look it up a while back once I figured not everything is pronounced like my mother's WV accent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Adrian in London:

@djsheilab She was lovely. Duetted on Sometimes it Hurts. Tindersticks used a track she'd recorded with them years ago and redid it on their last LP, and even five years later Stuart, the singer, was visibly upset talking about how much he missed her and how much she meant to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Adrian in London:

AND when she as a teenager she and her sisters formed a circus troupe and performed all over Canada!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Michael 98145:

thank you for another discovery, DJ Sheila and sophisticated friends

After getting embarrassed trying to spell in elementary school, I constantly went through Websters (actually read it cover to cover). It didn't help me when I was spelling (see 1/4 comments on any given comments page), but it made able to ID other's spellings that was incorrect

I discovered Lhasa via a Wire article a few months before she died. I found her too late :(

The best dancefloor music coming out of Portugal are variations of Angolan urban music.

Clay Pigeon could use some dishes in Wake & Bake.

I think my wife is the only one that can make me angry. I'm not good at angry. Annoyed, frustrated, sure, but rarely angry.

I once dj'ed a party w/ Kid Millions in an old garage in DUMBO where there was an old car and a sledgehammer. It was billed as the attraction of the party. It was fun until we found out no one fully drained the gas tank and once that leaked, party over man!
