yes, it was legal with parental consent for 16 or 17 year olds and any age w/ consent of a judge. Only Delaware and NJ have officially banned it. It's mind boggling that child marriage is fairly widespread right here in the U.S. of A. And there are plenty of horror stories because of it.

re: the "Madonna Meltdown" - fast forward a little while later to the Sheila who could have probably stepped out of a Sassy magazine / Delia catalog, putting on a Slowdive CD and having a fond memory of those days.
