Hurry up John is my favorite Idle Race tune!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

In the heady days of Napster and Limewire I scoured the Internet for that Idle Race tune because I think the cheapest CD that contained the song was $25.

Oh no. RIP Pat DiNizio.
Long loved TheSmithereens - their choice of influences & what they did w/ them - collected each of their CDs.
Was just thinking what a rre combination that is - to write & sing that well - so much rarer & more special than people think.
Condolences to all loved ones & fans - certainly to Dennis Diken...

Ticketmaster link shows nosebleed seats still open for $159 and up. www.nhl.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

I bought "Especially for You" at Sound-A-Rama Records in Rahway in 1986. It was on Enigma Records. I liked that record so much I began buying other Enigma artists like Game Theory and Wire. They especially were a gateway band for me and they were local Jersey guys, which was really inspiring to teenage me.
  4:50pm V Priceless:

Pat D forever!
Avatar 4:52pm Santos_L_Halper:

wow todd, that was sincere. thanks for sharing. met pat a few times, was always willing to talk to fans, especially if it involved bootleg kinks tapes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Gaylord Fields:

Beautiful tribute to Pat D., Todd. When I first met Pat during the Folk City/Big Combo days, I told him I owned a copy of the Smithereens' self-released "Girls About Town" EP (I bought it after hearing them on the Uncle Floyd Show). He proceeded to give me two cassettes of Smithereens demos and live tracks, much of which later showed up on Beauty and Sadness and their first full-length, Especially for You. I thought that was a pretty cool thing to do.
Avatar 4:52pm Santos_L_Halper:

thanks, Ken, FA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Smigthereens to me the Classic dedicated American Rawk'n'Roll Band. They sit in my collection w/ say the Flamin'Groovies - bands that are essential & indispensable to me if never titans of Industry - but then neither were even the Ramones.
I saw the Smithereens only once - in SantaBarbara: Pat got offstage & danced w/ girls - utterly unpretentiously - utterly in the spirit...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Stevel:

RRN63: Well said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63 The Smithereens played on my college campus in 1988 when I was just a freshman. I was 800 miles from home and I didn't really know too many people at school so it was comforting to have a local band that I enjoyed play nearby. Pat also danced with a few university gals at the show as well.
  5:03pm Dennis Diken:

Thanks Todd and everyone. Love you madly!
Avatar 5:05pm Hoboken Jack:

God bless the Smithereens

There’s a film due about Gloria Grahame‘s later life in the UK. Anette Bening playing GG, which is pretty good casting if u ask me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Mike Sin:

I first saw the Smithereens at a club on Bloomfield Ave... it wasnt the Dirt Club... further west... i just cant remember the name... it was a few months after the Beauty and Sadness EP. Really left an impression on my young little head. Caught the band around NYC so much after that. Always a fun show!
