i worked with a still life photographer in nyc back in the late 80s named jerry sarapochellio. his daughter mia was an actress - she shortened the last name for obvious reasons.
Avatar 4:03pm Brian Cat:

You don't hear busy signals very often because everyone has some kind of automatic answering, but they occur once in a while.
  4:06pm chalmers:

@Brian Cat, I checked and it's a Penn & Oldham song, so also a brand name writing team. I think H-D-H would have had a decent case.
  4:07pm P-90:

Dang! Maybe this time I'll figure out how to get away from it all and head down there for The Stomp...
Avatar 4:09pm Brian Cat:

chalmers, Did Penn and Oldham write for Motown?
  4:10pm P-90:

@Brian Cat and chalmers: it may have been partly a homogenizing Motown house arranging and production style, applied to two songs in the same key.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Passaic River Blues:

Oh man, this is up there with Sam Cooke's rendition and Joshua White's cover of "Molly Malone".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Guido from Cologne:

The photo of Evie Sands riding her 10(?) speed with the basket on the bards makes me smile.
Avatar 4:13pm Brian Cat:

Yeah great version of Danny Boy. Never heard it before.
  4:20pm chalmers:

@Brian Cat As far as I know they didn't write for Motown, but were Muscle Shoals/Stax guys who wrote "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man," "I'm Your Puppet" and other hits.
Avatar 4:21pm Brian Cat:

@chalmers thanks so much! The great Stax label,,,

Transferring stuff from the old to the new computer, I realized that close to half of my digital music collection is by People Like Us. Should I be expecting a restraining order or just embarrassed?

This Somali thing sounds like reggae and it sounds like Indian music also.

( gotta find me a copy of this issue - www.instagram.com... )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Rob Kopp:

@Michael: In the 80's, once a month, for about 10 years, Belgian deejay Arnold Rypens was playing originals on the radio. Thats where I heard artists like Evie Sands for the first time. He still has an excellent website when you're looking for originals: www.originals.be (and you can change from NL Dutch to EN English)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Adrian in London:

The info about that Aamina Camaari track on Bandcamp is really interesting, about how people saved 50 years of Somali music ostinatorecords.bandcamp.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Adrian in London:

Rumer was playing in a forest in Sussex a while ago, *supporting* Rick Astley. I mean, yeah, Rick Astley, nice chap and all that but, y'know…
  5:36pm Dean:

This Rick Astley? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Michael 98145:

@RobK, a person could spend a lot of time visiting that site. Cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Rob Kopp:

@Michael: Yes you could. I'm glad I have his originals-books in my library.
Avatar 5:37pm Brian Cat:

@Adrian Felt the same way when she announced Monica next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Adrian in London:

@Dean Ain't no way you're Rickrolling me. Nice try, though
  5:39pm Dean:
