Ken, my mother's parents were said to be Croatian. (Her stepfather was something of a wheel in the Croatian Fraternal Union, based in Pittsburgh.) But then some years ago after their passing, I was looking at a home movie of Grandma dancing with little me on vacation in Lake George, making the "woo-woo-woo" with the hand & mouth, and, having heard about the Lost Tribe of Roanoke, realized we were actually Croatan Indians.

My problem with terms like "chick lit" is that it's dismissive in the extreme. It's meant to be an indicator that something is not worth serious attention. And it (intentionally) puts women's artistic achievements into a ghetto where only women are expected to read or discuss these works. It's a not very subtle form of exclusion and is also meant to ridicule.
