We went to see Roxy Music at the Academy of Music on 14th Street back in the day. Mr. Ferry looked so elegant in his white suit!
  9:11pm Figgsrock:

I bought 4 APP albums in the past month, so I approve this message.

You just made three people of three different generations shriek by playing the disco Mary Hartman song. Also dance. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm efd:

Evan..... hi.....really enjoying the show as usual.
  9:33pm Figgsrock:

Oh man, that Stag single is my fave song of this year so far. I wonder what else would be worth getting from that band?
  9:37pm Fernando P.:

Things are kinda unreal down here in Brazil right now also and listening to WFMU is always a good break from the political murk and the economical meltdown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm efd:

thanks for tuning in, Fernando, and good luck.
  9:44pm JakeGould:

@Fernando P.: At least you can be assured that we here in the U.S. now have some true political empathy to share with the world…

Love to John and the guys! Sounds amazing. Having known John since 1986 and so many nights of rock n roll in various bands and also sharing a stage with him, SOOO great to hear it's still alive!! Nice!!!

Been a while since I've commented here. Re. Roxy Music at the Academy of Music, if that was the one that Television opened for, I was there too...
  10:36pm Greg:

I was in two bands w/ John from STAG in high school back in Cincinnati (HC-ish bands both, zine community and all that) -- very glad he's still rocking!

Oh man, I would love to take them up on their offer. Tell them I've liked them on FB and I'll definitely send them a message in the summer.
Avatar 10:55pm Hoboken Jack:

I love that his voice is distinctive but has just enough of that Feargal warble to tie it all together.
  10:58pm Stevel:

As previously noted, that is a tremendous voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm efd:

yep, I know what you mean Jack.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm efd:

Hey Keenan! Love it - thanks for listening!
  11:19pm PJ:

Huh, a good track from Never Let Me Down. Maybe I was misled 3o years ago by Day In, Day Out. (Late 80s production doesn't really help it.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm chris_in_space:

What up ma funksts'. joinin late tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm efd:

happy to have you, chris!

PJ, I've found there are good songs buried on many of the Bowie albums I overlooked at the time...
  11:37pm PJ:

I picked up a box set of Bowie CDs from the 90s and early 00s, each with an extra disc of bonus tracks, at a stoop sale sometime in the mid-00s, listened to them all a couple of times and couldn't find anything that really spoke to me. I went back after his death and listened to them again, and did find at least a couple of good songs on each set, but the overall impression was still not that impressive. But Lazarus was really good, I'm glad he went out on a high note, as it were. (I think it helped that it was only 7 songs, instead of, say, 19.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm coelacanth:

PJ, by 1984 i'd lost all interest in Bowie. i read an interview with him c.2008 which restored respect for him but still bored by the music, which was what i heard on the rare occasion i heard commercial radio.
then on his birthday last year Daniel Blumin played "lazarus" and i thought, "hmm maybe i shouldn't have ignored Bowie all this time."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm coelacanth:

there are about 5 albums between '84 and '16 that i've gotten into since then. (not including lazarus, which is perfectly Stellar)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm chris_in_space:

By the second chord I decided that this Proper Ornaments track was ok with me.
  11:44pm herb.nyc:

re music in the morning on wfmu, Nachum had some on his show. His opening song actually is cool, kinda anthemic. I mighta recorded it on my phone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm efd:

good point, herb.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Scraps:

Pearl Harbor & the Explosions! Ah, reminiscing.... Drivin' was an awesome song, it still makes me happy.
