A long-lost pop music genre: the comedy record interspersing snippets of hit songs: "Hey E.T., if you want phone home, what's the number?" <clip of "867-5309">.

  3:30pm JtotheK:

hello sheilaB and boom-boomers.
  3:30pm modchick65:

Sheila... when I'm making mixtapes, I often find myself getting myself into a space where I know I'm going off-track and I just have to stop; otherwise, I know that I'll just have to re-do everything. Your "I"m Still Standing" story reminds me of that, although I have nothing against "I'm Still Standing." ;)
  3:30pm JakeGould:

But you didn't do I guess that's why they call it the blues. :/

I play the lving HELL out of "Duane"! Stacy and I both have white promos of that 45. We're massive Jo Ann Campbell fans. Check out "Amateur Night" by her.
  3:47pm JtotheK:

that Jo Ann Campbell was pretty great!
Avatar 3:48pm djsheilab:

@JasonInBoston I've never been able to find the 45! And I don't think many people are after it either.

That singer of Gulp sounds exactly like Eliza Gilkyson
  3:49pm Popsicle:

Reminded me of a little of Mary Margaret Ohara's "Miss America" record which I think is perfect Check out "To Cry About"
Avatar 3:49pm CDToaster:

Hi Sheila, re: that Chocolat song, is that the same Chocolat who performs on the Zofka album "Chocolat"? If so, what happened, did she branch off by herself and go solo or was this before she hooked up with Zofka? Which came first, her work with Zofka or her solo? love her voice! Sorry for my ignorance but I love Zofka and didn't realize he named one of his albums after her. I guess I should just do some research on my own without bothering you. Perhaps a listener knows about her and her affiliations with Zofka? Much appreciated. Happy Holidaze all!

  4:06pm modchick65:

Oh, Betty. If only you knew that everyone listening would trade you a 2016 for a 1968.
  4:06pm 67tele:

i thought for a second it was going to be Betty Marie Barnes from Saturday Looks Good to Me
  4:08pm jerry h.:

Just wondering: @djsheilab- do you normally have a Holiday-themed playlist near xmas, etc.? Still like hearing those tunes, however. And I guess it depends where you work. I like my co-workers. Not Customers. Everybody wants a discount and I'm not the owner. Thanks for thoughts and comments@glenn,@Brian,@modchick65 !

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Rob Kopp:

Dutch singer Faye Lovsky is fantastic
  4:15pm jerry h.:

Everybody thinks they can get a better deal elsewhere. Show me a competitor"s prices and we'll talk then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Rob Kopp:

The sleeve of Fay's CD JoPo in MoNo was designed by strip-maker Joost Swarte. It has such a funny form when it's closed. Just have a look on Google and you can see what I mean
Avatar 4:22pm CDToaster:

@Michael 98145, no, the Zofka album Chocolat came out in 2008. The singer on his album sounds EXACTLY like Cholocat but her name isn't mentioned on the album which is written completely in French so I can't understand anything. But I'm certain it's the same gal. No biggie, but if you liked that Chocolat track, you'd love Zofka
  4:23pm Ted:

One of those great Fleetwood Mac songs that seems to never get heard anymore. Thanks Sheila...have no heard this in over 3 decades!
Avatar 4:26pm The Contessa:

Going back to that horse's tail I must mention the English performance artist Rose English who did an installation called Quadrille with the dancers wearing horses' tails in 1975 if anyone wants to have a gander
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Rob Kopp:

Crazy. I hear something of Shocking Blue's Venus in it
Avatar 4:37pm CDToaster:

I answered my own question by playing the Chocolat album by Zofka and it's clear I mistook the singer for the Chocolat Sheila played. They sounded similar, but not identical as I thought. Also, she's French, not Asian. Sorry for wasting your time readers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I thought I invented an acronym today: NARP (Not A Real Problem). There are already several definitions:
Neuropathy, ataxia, and retinitis pigmentosa; an affliction of the nervous system
National Association of Railroad Passengers; advocacy group for train riders
Non-athletic regular person; not a jock
Maybe there are some others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Rob Kopp:

Is that Charisma single on vinyl?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm JP from KC:

  4:40pm jerry h.:

This album came with a Parental Warning !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Rob Kopp:

Sheila removed the warning
  4:42pm JasonInBoston:

YEAH! LOTTA LOVE! Get the 12" of this! One of my all-time favorites.
  4:43pm βrian:

Nah, she removed the parents.
Avatar 4:43pm djsheilab:

@Rob Kopp I wish!
Avatar 4:43pm djsheilab:

@Jerry H. The Junior Senior album came with a parental warning? Haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

This Nicolette Larson song stirs up lots of rememberies.
  4:45pm 67tele:

@KFHP: you could instead use the acronym ANT (Aint No Thang)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Rob Kopp:

I just see on the Wikipedia page of Temputa Kidz that it's a spilt single. You played Miira killer by Tempura Kidz.
Avatar 4:46pm CDToaster:

After more research, I found the actual song that made me think Chocolat was the singer on a Zofka's album. Listen to "Tu Ne L'Aimes Pas" on his "Nice" album and you will hear the similarity and cause for my confusion. As Ken said, NARP. Thanks.

  5:16pm JasonInBoston:

Our Winter Love is a MASSIVE tune in Pittsburgh. All the oldies DJs still play it. Terry Lee played it quite a bit. There's a vocal version by the Lettermen too. Love that song. Got the promo.
  5:17pm modchick65:

Wow! I thought this Rumer song was a version from the 70s! Awesome! I love Bacharach... my parents would listen to Reach Out on Sunday nights in front of the fireplace while I played on the floor. It could have been the cover of a K-Tel record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Smilty69:

@northguineahill: Google says it was Lost Highway. That wasn't the movie though. I thought it was Mulholland Drive..

From the interweb: "The version by This Mortal Coil featured on David Lynch's 1997 film Lost Highway but did not appear on the film's soundtrack album. Lynch has stated that This Mortal Coil's version of the song inspired the first two albums by Julee Cruise."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Rob Kopp:

On one of her previous albums Rumer did a cover of the Jimmy Webb song P.F. Sloan, about a songwriter who really existed (he wrote a.o. Eve of destruction, Take me for what I'm worth, let me be). YouTube contains a live version where she's joined by P.F. Sloan himself! www.youtube.com...

the bacharach songbook is timeless - what a pretty cover - not since dusty springfield. sheila she does a nice cover of a laura nyro song here - maybe you'll like it too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKTjP_r8PcM
  5:25pm modchick65:

I've reached the point where I cringe at a Chorus pedal. It just sounds so dated. Think I'm going to sell mine. I don't even want it in the house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Michael 98145:

that Pale Saints LP cover is disturbing

I really like the music of this Geowulf track.
  5:38pm modchick65:

@andrew -- Yes. The Chorus pedal is all over the 80s/90s. It's so characteristic of the sound, and I loved all that music at the time. It's not even that I don't love it anymore... I just don't listen to it a lot anymore, so when I hear it -- and the chorus pedal -- it just reminds me of how long ago it was and I get depressed that I'm old. Or something. :)
  5:39pm Lee2001:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

(...like it because it sounds like Diana Ross - like it better because it isn't...heh..)
  5:50pm jerry h.:

I was also thinking how much Mitty sounds like Miss Ross.

I'd heard AOR was album oriented rock. But that was decades ago.

YUP! AOR was Album-Oriented Rock!! It was the awesomest stuff on the local radio you could get!!
Avatar 2:58pm Van in DC:

Did a quick drive by to hear This Mortal Coil's "Song to the Siren". Thank you for playing it. Liz Fraser....just. Wow. One of the most gorgeousest voices in like, ever.
Avatar 2:59pm Van in DC:

BTW - is that the deceased former wrestler "Chyna" on Runer's cover? Wow, sure kind of resembles her if not!
  10:32am X. Sample:

Looking up SAMPLED RECORDS last night it seems the genre was launched but a month earlier than your show-opening Audrey's "DEAR ELVIS" from August 1956, inspired by Buchanan and Goodman's July 1956 genre originator, "The Flying Saucer." Yes, the same Dickie Goodman who oversaturated 1970's radio with these nuisances.

Unfortunately for capitulating "DEAR ELVIS" which destroyed unsold copies in September 1956 to settle, in November 1956 battling Buchanan and Goodman won "THE FLYING SAUCER" lawsuit, opening the door for sampling !
