This makes me want to watch the KITH and SNL parodies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm chris:

Hi there.
  12:07pm Dean:

Is this death metal? Grindcore? Black metal?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Andrew Waterloo:

This is Viking Metal
Avatar 12:08pm Cecile:

I didn't know this, but the "peace on earth" melody came about because Bowie flat out refused to sing Little Drummer Boy and only did it because of his mum. nice.
  12:09pm Polyus:

Merry Christmas Diane!
  12:10pm Blinda:

hahaha this is Nu Metal

Hey Diane. If the mood hits you, would dig hearing 'Panic In Detroit'...otherwise, ROCK me back to the Stone Age...been that kinda week. Cheers...

good to hear you, diane!

Protomartyr is perfect, Diane.
Avatar 12:14pm V Priceless:

hey common...we need to ketchup
  12:14pm Dean:

This is suicide by comment, but Blues Pills started out sounding just a wee too much like Adele.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm chris:

Dean: Hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm common:

we do, vp. heavy week.
  12:18pm Dean:

I've developed a whole routine around that song when the family plays it in the car. Adele says, "Hello?," and I reply, "Hello." Etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm sphere:

hello folks
Avatar 12:22pm Cecile:

I like Adele, but I don't like that one much.
Avatar 12:26pm Diane Kamikaze:

I don't think I've ever actually heard Adele. You could be riight, Dean! Hello all. I am at a loss at what to say about the loss of David Bowie. After this mic break I am playing Diamond Dogs straight through, and maybe one other song during the show. There have been many great tributes on the station and I started off by making a list of songs, which easily went over 8 hours, let alone 3, then I went with decades and still couldn't shave anything down. I feel that Diamond Dogs is a great representation as one piece that flows and encompasses so much, just as a glimpse into what he was capable of at a single point in time. That Is All. xo
  12:27pm Dean:

I can take or leave. On first hearing it, the latest album struck me as owing something to Roxy Music, not that she intended it. But I tire of the Nirvana-like melodrama, the weary mumble followed by a stentorian bellow.
  12:27pm Dean:

The entire DD album? That's a perfect solution!
  12:28pm Blinda:

Thanks Diane. I feel like we are all shocked and heartbroken.
Avatar 12:28pm Cecile:

I like the singles. I don't know if I could sit through an entire Adele album. It would just make me miss Amy Winehouse more.
Avatar 12:29pm Cheri Pi:

Heeeeeeeeeeeeer [after a gruelling 2 hour meeting that I thought was only one hour] punish my ears. make me forget.
  12:29pm JCMike:

I always felt Dogs ate Ziggy for breakfast.
  12:30pm Blinda:

I am having a hard time even processing the facts that he was nearly 70, or that he was mortal.
Avatar 12:31pm Cecile:

what a life!
  12:31pm Blinda:

@ Cecile I just listened to Frank again this week. if you don't want to miss her more don't be like me.
  12:32pm Dean:

You can say that again. I watched the two hour Lemmy funeral on Sunday night, woke up Monday to get the news. Before that Bley, Boulez... It all makes perfect mathematical and biological sense, but crap.
Avatar 12:33pm InBrkly:

My favourite comment was something like: I wasn't ready for this, I guess i assumed he was immortal....
Avatar 12:33pm V Priceless:

Wow DK - how freakin' cool - a fitting tribute indeed - THANK YOU - THANK YOU for playing this...
Avatar 12:33pm Cecile:

Can't do that. I have Back to Black

Diane if this makes you feel better, I've seen tons of comments like "I am 14 and just discovered him. He's awesome."
Avatar 12:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...this album was spooky & heavy when I was 10 years old...
Avatar 12:34pm Cecile:

I mean back to black on my ipod shuffle playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Stevel:

First heard Diamond Dogs visiting my grandparents house. My uncle lived there as well and introduced me to many bands, including Elton John, Black Oak Arkansas, and David Bowie. Most afternoons, little was happening, so I'd have the run of the record cabinet. The DD album cover was an unusual image to process as a 13-year-old, much less the opening screed (which I'd already memorized via Creem magazine.

Off to listen... and thank you.
Avatar 12:34pm ron in S FL:

I'm getting chills hearing this Future Legend intro, just like the first time I heard it.
  12:34pm Polyus:

Diane is the first DJ I have heard touch something like All Saints this week, nice touch.
Avatar 12:35pm V Priceless:

flashback for me: begging the Record World clerk to give me the giant 'Diamond Dogs' promo poster - I still have it. Don't know how I pulled that one off...
  12:36pm Dean:

I remember checking out the LP from my high school library.
Avatar 12:39pm V Priceless:

pretty sure this is the only Bowie record where he pretty much plays all the guitar parts, except for '1984'...
Avatar 12:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

  12:40pm curlee59:

"having so much fun with the poisonous people" love Diamond Dogs!
Avatar 12:43pm V Priceless:

check that: Earl Slick on 'Rock & Roll w/Me'; Alan Parker on '1984'
Avatar 12:45pm Cecile:

he was so young when he made this record.
Avatar 12:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

He was denied using '1984' straight-out by the Orwell estate a bit like he himself denied Todd Haynes material for 'Velvet Goldmine' - & I think they were both better for it.
27 years old?
Avatar 12:48pm Cecile:

25 - but so polished and mature
Avatar 12:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Just - just - Genius.
Avatar 12:49pm V Priceless:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Stevel:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm coelacanth:

hi Diane and others
Avatar 12:52pm jljl:

I'm horning in on FMU shows again but since no one can get enough Bowie this week, I wanted to mention that there are several tributes on WMBR. Including my show at 10AM today where I dug fairly deep (anyone else have the Bump and Grind bootleg?) and managed not to repeat the other folks. Archives are up for 2 weeks if you're interested: wmbr.org...

I think she has potential, but I hope it's not stymied by her huge record sales.

The Never Ending Skeletal Family, love it!
  1:16pm PJ:

I am not the biggest Bowie fan, but his death affected me more than I would have expected. His music, at its best, expressed, in a very striking way, discontentment with and alienation from modern society, the resulting melancholy, and a tenacious romanticism seeking another way of living. His personas are all outsiders, even when they're insiders, a way of making those inside society (all of us, to some degree) notice the problem. You've got five years until the end of the world, what are you going to do with it?
Avatar 1:16pm V Priceless:

haha, fish! glad you are hearing this!
  1:17pm weehawk:

Avatar 1:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

There's 'Disguises' by TheWh♂ in there - SydBarrett - the Velvets & doors: he was a summation taking it to the next place...
Avatar 1:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Scott Walker & Jaques Brel - Warhol & Burroughs - it's - inestimable...
Avatar 1:18pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Interesting how close the Skeletal Family comes to some Bob Calvert chant tunes (storm chant of the skraelings from Lucky Leif, etc) -- ok, nerd moment over. For now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm coelacanth:

V i'm cracking up over here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm sphere:

PJ, your remarks remind me of that old 80s MTV interview with Bowie where he harassed them for refusing to air black artists.
Avatar 1:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

He took years to break, & then became one of the richest. We'll have forever to try to sum it up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm coelacanth:

okay i normally don't star songs that i have my own copy of, but...mine's not like this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm paul b:

My friend Nancy (now Micaela) used to like this Ever circling skeleton song. Here's looking at you kid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm coelacanth:

Diane has another 1-1/2 hours!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Rich in Washington:

I am due to do radio tonight but suspect I am nearing the edge of people wanting to hear Bowie but still feel compelled to do so, because of what Bowie meant to me, still means to me, etc..

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm coelacanth:

Thanks Diane!! that was exhilarating!
  1:32pm Dean:

Dean, my guess is that the manatee is the antecedent.

Everyone needs an Auntie Manatee. In motörhead shirt.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Rich in Washington:

I bought mine at Target. It felt weird. I haven't bought a new CD in quite a while. I went in thinking they might have it on vinyl (some Targets have a limited record section) but ended up buying it on CD.
Avatar 2:51pm InBrkly:

I think Tin Machine was my first CD purchase actually...from Tower Records
Avatar 2:51pm InBrkly:

The Barnes & Noble next to me ditched their music aisle and replaced it with educational (?) toys
Avatar 2:51pm V Priceless:

@ Polyus: B & N has pretty good CD prices - I bet you paid $ 9.50 for that? Scored a bunch of stuff there around the holidaze for $ 4.99, including 1st Captain Beyond, Blue Cheer, etc.! Go figure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm common:

off to work like a jerk. thanks for the rock! have good days!
  2:56pm Dean:

Damn, VP, my B&N (which is also, I strongly suspect, InBrkly's) removed the CD inventory quite a while ago. I used to haunt the Tower Records stores in SoCal as a matter of habit. After moving north, I'd visit the one in Berkeley on Durant. Funny how when my shopping there declined the chain tanked. There is now in Albany (near Berkeley) a vinyl store, just opened this week, Strictly Vinyl. Hope to visit soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm chris:

Avatar 2:59pm V Priceless:

phew - thanks for a great show, Diane, and for really knocking it outta the park for DB...as difficult as it may be to come to terms with the 'David Bowie RIP' atop the playlist, we shall overcome...with ROCK & ROLL!
  3:00pm Dean:

@InBrkly: Mod Lang is pretty cool. See also Dave's on San Pablo just south of Dwight.
