Double-pronged attack from my office neighbor this morning: his usual loud-ass phone voice and a smelly-ass breakfast. Too bad FMU doesn't offer olfactory streaming.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Polyus:

I wonder what WFMU would smell like? Or is it better not to know?
Avatar 9:31am Roberto:

I'm guessing WFMU's aroma is anything but ordinary.
Avatar 9:32am Joe McG:

@Polyus: It smells like old records, beer, stale coffee, sweat.
  9:34am V Priceless:

@ Joe: as long as old gym sox are not part of the equation, we're good.

Avatar 10:46am bobdoesthings:

saw an interesting video on built-in-obsolescence recently... Crazy to think how every industry is aware that they are making products designed to die. Why can't you replace the iphone battery?! Oh cause.. buy another one jerk!
Avatar 10:48am bobdoesthings:

Avatar 10:49am bobdoesthings:

sorry only mentioning b/c Peter Sayers mentioned "planned obsolescence" in his lyrics..
Avatar 10:50am Claw!:

@bobdoes - I'll check that out. Thanks for linking that. Dunno if you've seen this one also - it's a classic, but so very informative:
Avatar 10:51am bobdoesthings:

@claw! - oh sweet, will check out later for sure, thanks!
Avatar 10:51am Claw!:

I love Ernie Ford.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Dominick:

Damn, those early Capitol sides sound great
Avatar 10:52am Claw!:

You got it, Bob. :)
Avatar 10:54am Joe McG:

@Dominick: I totally agree!
  10:55am JakeGould:

@bobdoesthings: As far as planned obsolescence goes, I still have novelty "Mixed Nuts" with snakes in the can. Years later, they still work.
  10:56am Brendan:

Great Sean Penn character in this movie...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am common:

ah, it's 1985
Avatar 10:57am Marcel M:

Woahhhhhhhh this is weird!
Avatar 10:58am Joe McG:

I never saw this movie. Is it good?
Avatar 10:58am bobdoesthings:

I didn't know Pat Metheny did anything cool... thought he was all fusion and elevators...
Avatar 10:58am Claw!:

Jake, you'd better hold on to that can. Pass it to your children after you prank them with it. Use it to tech them lessons like, "...and that's why you always leave a note," or any other valuable life lesson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Greg from Bloomfield:

Never saw "The Falcon & The Snowman" but I DID see "The Serpent & The Rainbow"

Avatar 11:00am βrian:

Used to sing this to my Himalayan cat. What a mug!
Avatar 11:01am duke:

This is a weird song. "You're kinda ugly, but I like you anyway"
  11:01am JakeGould:

@Claw: I have 3 different cans of novelty mixed nuts infested with snakes. I think the message of the prank is "Don't expect any happiness... Even joy is filled with snakes..."
Avatar 11:03am Claw!:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Gordon FM:

What a great show!
  11:03am JakeGould:

I never saw "Her" or "Falcon and the Snowman" or "Serpent and the Rainbow." I saw "First Blood" for the first time last week.
Avatar 11:04am Claw!:

@jake - "infested with snakes" is a great way to describe those novelty cans!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Kelly Jones:

The Falcon and The Snowman is about two American assholes who become Russian spies.
  11:04am Listener David:

Falcon and the Snowman is about spies. Was a real story.
  11:05am Brendan:

Yes its about espionage and drugs . I thought it was good. Sean Penn's flawed character reminded me of something you'd see in a Cohen bros. Film
Avatar 11:05am Roberto:

I was going to say that sounded like a Swampy story.
Avatar 11:11am Claw!:

Whoa! I am feelin this...
Avatar 11:11am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Polyus:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Greg from Bloomfield:

I loved "Her". Guest appearance by Alan Watts!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:15am Andrew Waterloo:

James Hetfield sounds really different on this track...
Avatar 11:17am Joe McG:

@Claw!: Ha!!
  11:21am Brendan:

Did anyone see 'Under The Skin'?
Avatar 11:22am Claw!:

I like the soundtrack stuff, Joe. Real nice.
Speaking of which - what's up with Devin E. Levins? Y'all really need to give that man a longer time slot. One hour is nowhere near enough.
Avatar 11:22am Rev. Turnip Druid:

HOLY CRAP, best segue of all time. From the Planete Sauvage piece to that Holy Mountain bit -- this Jodorowsky/Cherry riff is probably me favorite sound ever recorded. And needs to go on for weeks without a break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Nasty Les:

Yeah, fantastic film and a fantastic sound
Avatar 11:23am bobdoesthings:

this is gorgeous!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Nasty Les:

'Under The Skin' I meant, but it also goes for 'The Holy Mountain'
Avatar 11:24am bobdoesthings:

I wish I could double-clicky-star or somehow leave a special flag on tracks that I need to go out and purchase.. would make making sense of my 10,000 favorites a bit easier
  11:25am JakeGould:

No Brendan. Did not see "Under the Skin." Is that a film about the stigma and shame of splinters?
Avatar 11:26am bobdoesthings:

@myself - or perhaps don't be so flippant with your precious clicky stars.. huh?!
  11:29am Brendan:

Under the skin i thought was a really amazing example of filmmaking as art. People seemed to love or hate it, but if you like Kubrick, David Lynch , Nicolas Roeg , i cant recommend it enough.
Avatar 11:29am Joe McG:

@Brendan: I really liked it.
Avatar 11:31am Andy M.:

This Riz Ortolani piece is beautiful. Hard to believe it's from a movie called Cannibal Holocaust.
Avatar 11:33am bobdoesthings:

@andy m - you ever see it? It's pretty disturbing
  11:33am JakeGould:

Now that I checked what "Under the Skin" was, I'll hate it because Scarlett Johansson is in it. She's miscast in all of these sci-fi/action roles.
Avatar 11:34am Andy M.:

@bobdoesthings I've never seen it. Did you love it?
Avatar 11:37am bobdoesthings:

@andy - No. But it was... well.. It was an experience. I just recall being disturbed.
Avatar 11:38am Claw!:

Oh, Andy, that's just a name. There are no cannibals holocausting in that film.
But there are cannibals. And impalements. And animals being killed. If it weren't for the lovely soundtrack to even it out, it might be considered "Too Hot For TV!" by most folks.

@claw -- yeah ughh I recall the turtle being killed.. that made me a bit queasy.. but yeah it was more of a shock film.. exploitation to the extreme.. Wasn't the main lady raped as well?

Yeah, 'Under The Skin' was for sure one of the best films I've seen in a long time. Some amazing imagery. Scarlett Johansson was great in it too. Kind of a more surreal and impressionistic 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' would be my closest description, but that doesn't really do it justice. Even if the plot description sounds more like 'Species' ;-)

Anyone see “Cannibal Slumber Party?”
Avatar 11:42am Claw!:

Bob, now you're just spoiling it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Greg from Bloomfield:

Yeah, can't hang with Cannibal Holocaust. Even the director apologized for the animal stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am common:

@bobdoesthings and claw: I can never see cannibal holocaust because of what I've read about the animals. yuk. that soundtrack is crazy, though.
Avatar 11:43am Joe McG:

@common: I'm not really into horror of any kind, so I've never seen "Cannibal Holocaust," but a lot of the music is really good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Greg from Bloomfield:

@common: If you ever come across an edited version, check it out. The rest of it is actually pretty great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Polyus:

The animal stuff killed it for me as well, which is kind of weird, considering what happens to people in that movie.
Avatar 11:48am Cecile:

If I only had to listen to the music, I'd be a big horror movie fan.
Avatar 11:48am Claw!:

Yeah Polyus, but with the people, it's all SFX. And most people are jerks anyway.
I fast forward through the turtle stuff. I like turtles.
Avatar 11:49am Claw!:

I love horror movies. It's just a bonus for me that they tend to have killer soundtracks (no pun intended).
Avatar 11:50am Sem Chumbo:

Thanks, Joe. Really appreciated this last set! See you next time.

I notice that there are no comments logged here after noon, show's end, I guess because the Accuplaylist goes down for the show, but LO here it is a few hours later, and so I come to say that wow this was an eye-opening show, Will J
