Minnesota Jeff's animation is happily dancing to "Sugar Man"! :)
good afternoon, Kurt and listeners!
Avatar 3:12pm Mark Helsten:

Sugarman should help.
Avatar 3:14pm northguineahills:

Rodriguez is a nice bolt of saffron sunshine on this otherwise gray murky mist filled day.

Albert Ayler! Thanks Kurt!
Avatar 3:44pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Parq:

Kurt, I can't see the GIF either. This is an every-week thing for me, and the problem is that the GIF is hosted on a site that's on my employer's "banned" list. I don't know if that's Cecile's problem as well.
Avatar 3:45pm Cecile:

that's probably what the problem is. I'll bet that's what it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm common:

stupid banning employers.
Avatar 3:47pm Kurt Gottschalk:

ah, that makes sense. the gifs are on photobucket

Why is it that dancing sun works with everything you are playing; it is uncanny.
  3:53pm Santos L Halper:

Swimming behind in the stream here; did I hear a little Careless Whisper in that Ayler? ; )
Avatar 3:57pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i would love to hear kirk play geo michael! last week somebody on the playlist asked me about my "guilty pleasures." that song might top the list!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Carmichael:

Hola Kurt und meinen Freunden. Didn't have greasy chicken for lunch, but rather the hottest EFFING aloo chana that can be made. I will listen in tears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm fleep:

Bingo! Please hold onto your cards while we confirm the bingo.
  4:06pm blee:

Are these background robo lady vocals recursive?
  4:06pm blee:

A question I often ask others.
Avatar 4:07pm Kurt Gottschalk:

and a good question!
i'm afraid i don't have an answer.
Avatar 4:08pm Mark Helsten:

We _love_ recursion here in MM. At least I do.
Avatar 4:09pm mythopeic_industries:

Avatar 4:09pm Cecile:

I don't hear any recursing. She's not swearing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Carmichael:

Where is MM, Mark?
Avatar 4:10pm Cecile:

two great songs on that soundtrack - this and Hey Bulldog.
  4:10pm blee:

Oh Cecile. ;)
  4:10pm vanya moscow:

My favourite beatles song!!!
Avatar 4:10pm Mark Helsten:

Miniature Minotaurs!
Avatar 4:11pm Mark Helsten:

Jeeze! a Beatles song I have never heard!
Avatar 4:11pm Cecile:

When I still cared about piano, I managed to figure out how to pick out the melody line of this on our old upright.
  4:13pm Dean:

Cover of this tune on a recent Hillage issue is pretty darn good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Steve-Hillage-Band-Unconvention/dp/B008HRK6Z2
  4:15pm vanya moscow:

I think, this LP and Magical Mystery Tour is, like, how things should be mixed. Always. And Electric Ladyland. Sorry for obviousness
Avatar 4:16pm northguineahills:

Not ashamed to say I dig this Beatles tune a lot!

(I remember playing this in '94 in HS, and my friend heard the feedback and thought it was SY, [until the vox popped in]
  4:19pm vanya moscow:

Sorry, northguineahills, HS and SY - ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Carmichael:

Avatar 4:20pm Cecile:

Love this song!

High School and Sonic Youth, vanya.
  4:21pm vanya moscow:

Avatar 4:21pm northguineahills:

HS= High School, SY= Sonic Youth.
Avatar 4:22pm northguineahills:

oh, thanks Cecile.!
Avatar 4:23pm Cecile:

I type like 80 words a minute, didn't mean to butt in, ngh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Carmichael:

@Mark: Sheez, thanks ... And I was trying to figure out which state that stood for.

Kurt, thanks for the EastEuro music! Don't know why I love it, but I do.
Avatar 4:24pm Cecile:

oh, Kurt, you should play James Last's version of Silver Machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Carmichael:

This McCartney tune is abolutely hep!
  4:26pm Dean:

For years this LP was one of your typical used bin orphans.
  4:27pm vanya moscow:

Yeah, Carmichael, Best McCartney LP. It's like best of everything program today. And those sweet Czech sounds I never heard
Avatar 4:29pm northguineahills:

Been busy w/ phone interviews,,, not always on the board..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm fred:

@ngh: interviews, as in job interviews?
@Kurt: I didn't remember how much I loved those old Bush Tetras records
Avatar 4:34pm Cecile:

a low point for SY.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Carmichael:

I thought this was Siouxsie and the Banshees at first.
Avatar 4:36pm northguineahills:

Yeah. The calls earlier for two positions didn't give me many details. Waiting for call backs now.

Hey, I like Goo! (then again a low point for SY isn't too low).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Carmichael:

@vanya: Kurt gets down weekly (usually) with the cool Czech pop!
Avatar 4:37pm Cecile:

this and Experimental Jet Set made me sad. . Then they came out with Washing Machine/1000 Leaves/NY Ghosts and Flowers. Happy. Then Murray Street. sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm fred:

@ngh: good luck!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Carmichael:

Howa about Good Old Fashioned Medicated Goo, Kurt? The Traffic song.
Avatar 4:40pm slugluv1313:

@ northguineahills -- YAY!!! JOB INTERVIEWS!!!! best of luck to you!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm common:

cecile: rather ripped made me sad. sounded like a break-up. guess it was.
Avatar 4:42pm northguineahills:

I thought Thousand Leaves was one of SY's best albums including the 80s. The rest, listenable, and fun in short bursts, but yeah, not to great.

Thanks everyone!
Avatar 4:43pm northguineahills:

Avatar 4:43pm Cecile:

They were phoning it it. And yet they got some of the best notices of their career. Go figure.

ITA ngh, 1000 leaves is great and kind of underrated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Guido from Cologne:

so many differing moods about Sonic Youth ...
i loved Goo but Washing Machine was the most surprising in being one of their best achievements
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm fred:

@Cecile: that late 90's era also brought the first SYR records and the Silver session
Avatar 4:45pm Cecile:

Washing Machine was great, and so was that tour.
Avatar 4:45pm Cecile:

SYR and Silver were also very good.
  4:49pm blee:

The Slits!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Guido from Cologne:

... but who can compete the Slits?
Sheer brilliance!
Avatar 4:51pm slugluv1313:

YES!!!!!! SLITS!!!!!!!!! still love them as much as i did waaaaaaay back when
Avatar 4:52pm Cecile:

Guido, I appreciate and like them much better now than when I was younger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm I.K.E. (Ice King Enterprises):

Fela Fela Fela
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Mike East:

Is that an Adventure Time reference IKE? I just started watching that with my daughter.
Avatar 5:17pm northguineahills:

@Mike: I've watch the whole series all by my lonesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Mike East:

@ngh - I would, too. the 9 year old just gives me a good excuse...my wife looks at me funny when I watch weird cartoons on my own...not that I let that stop me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm I.K.E.:

Yes indeed, Mike. Some of the most recent episodes were wildly psychedelic and blasted my mind wide open. Over time the show becomes much more mature. Finn has grown up as the kid voicing him has grown up. In most cartoons, nobody ages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Ike:

For anybody still not convinced: www.newyorker.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Mike East:

That's the article that got me watching! I think she writes great reviews and has pretty good taste.
Avatar 5:27pm northguineahills:

Yeah, some episodes you have to watch a few times just to figure out what's happening. My mind gets blown, and it's trippy (as in the positive connotation) to boot.
Avatar 5:28pm Cecile:

I'm kind of addicted to My Little Pony right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Carmichael:

I haven't watched cartoons or kids programming since the Wiggles replaced their leader.
  5:32pm bassfartz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm ░╫Kℰ░:

Agreed, M.E., Nussbaum is the bomb.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm ░╫Kℰ░:

Cecile, I've heard that's good, but I'm terrified that I'd be assimilated into the bronies. Not gonna touch that with a 100-foot extension cord.
Avatar 5:36pm Cecile:

You don't have to go to Bronycon to enjoy the show
I just watch the show. I don't participate in any boards or buy any gear or any of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Carmichael:

Yikes, that's a creepy thought, Cecile & Mike. I didn't know that existed. Please don't tell me more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm ░╫Kℰ░:

Nah, I know, J/K. Still a little vaguely terrified though.
Avatar 5:40pm ranjit:

I've never seen Adventure Time, but that newyorker article makes me want to start.
  5:42pm Dean:

This Bernie Worrell is a gem! Making a mental note to find it this weekend. Beautiful.

Bay Area listeners: Alan Broadbent will be in town at Piedmont Piano Co. on Friday, June 13.
Avatar 5:43pm Kurt Gottschalk:

yeah, it's a gorgeous record.
Avatar 5:46pm northguineahills:

Ok, peace out, everyone! Have a great weekend. Making a veggie chorizo/hab/green chili/onion/fritata for dinner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Mike East:

damn...was just thinkin about frittata. enjoy, man. Peace everybody. I gotta get outta here.
Avatar 5:52pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Guido from Cologne:

How is this? I just pulled an old copy of Tubular Bells out by random, just wondering about the fuzzy quality of the jacket back ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Carmichael:

Love the vinyl pops, Kurt!
Avatar 5:56pm Cecile:

someone should play the piltdown man part. I never hear it.
  5:57pm Dov999:

Excellent set. Thanks for Oldfield - I can't find that. And Worrell was terrific.
  11:53pm brian:

love that mali cut. just like north MS hill country blues. Want.
