hiiiiiilarious! hey kurt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Carmichael:

Nice doggie ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Caryn:

Hello all! Trying to decide if the documentary "A Band Called Death" is worth watching tonight. Anyone familiar with it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm DCE:

I'm sure it'd be worth it!
Avatar 3:03pm Cecile:

Some folks said it was good.
I have their CD, but haven't seen the movie. the music is excellent.
Avatar 3:03pm Mark Helsten:

Smooth transition from Bryce.
Avatar 3:03pm kirk from beer city usa:

caryn: yes, it's great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Mike East:

@Caryn - yes, worth watching...though I don't think I finished due to circumstances at the time. But a well told story, and great music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Parq:

Caryn, I haven't seen it, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. The story alone is interesting enough to make it worth your time.
Avatar 3:05pm Mark Helsten:

I heard nothing but good things about '.."Death", but have not yet seen it myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Caryn:

Thanks for the info, all! They've been showing music documentaries on the same spot for a couple of months now. Seems like this will be a nice follow-up to the Big Star doc from a couple of weeks back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Parq:

Bottom line -- if you're looking for Caryn tonight and you're not looking in front of a TV, you're looking in the wrong place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm common:

@CARYN: a band called death is a good 'un. i just saw a bbc doc on hawkwind. some funny stuff in that one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm steve:

i for some reason had to turn off A Band Called Death a few minutes in after seeing Henry Rollins being a talking head. maybe i should've stuck with it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Caryn:

@Parq: I think that goes for most nights. A limited budget means the tv and laptop are my main entertainments. Being laid up with the flu right now means they're definitely the only pastimes I have at the moment.
Avatar 3:10pm Sem Chumbo:

@common: That Hawkwind thing on-line somewhere?
Avatar 3:14pm Kurt Gottschalk:

good afternoon, everyone! thanks for tuning in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm SeanG:

Avatar 3:18pm Cecile:

nice seg, Kurt.
Avatar 3:18pm Cecile:

Got some Mal Waldron floating around?
Avatar 3:20pm Mark Helsten:

I thought I recognised this... Nice choice from Heroes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Caryn:

Watched some old Prince today. I had somehow completely erased from my mind that Kristin Scott Thomas was in "Under the Cherry Moon".
Avatar 3:21pm Cecile:

A Kenny G favorite!
Avatar 3:22pm V Priceless:

Ray Davies chaser perhaps? Hi !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm common:

@ sem: yea. hawkwind thingy is on youtube. i think i just searched hawkwind bbc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Mike East:

this is what eric idle is parodying in Meaning of Life, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm common:

@caryn: still haven't seen under the cherry moon. how was it?
Avatar 3:24pm Cheri Pi:

make mine Uncle Harriot... HAY CECILE!
Avatar 3:24pm Cecile:

hay, pi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Caryn:

@Mike East: yep, it's an excellent Noel Coward parody.

@common: didn't watch the movie, but rather music videos from the soundtrack album. It's not a good movie (hence I didn't watch it now), but the music and some of the actors I do enjoy.
  3:26pm P-90:

@Dj Kurt G.: Thanks for classing up the joint a little with Noel Coward
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Mike East:

@Caryn - my favorite is the very end "thankyouverymuch". I play that in my head sometimes for a chuckle.
Avatar 3:28pm Cecile:

if by classing up you mean unfurling a dozen double-entendres about Uncle Harry's proclivities...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm TR In MI:

this is some heavy silence
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm common:

@caryn: i heard it was a stinker! thought maybe good bad. guess not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm SeanG:

find your scream
Avatar 3:29pm coelacanth:

Hi Kurt.

Cheri Pi -I watched your gif while playing the opening of Joe McGasko's show. It's perfect!
(but you probably know that already)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Caryn:

I wonder if Kurt will follow up the Coward with some similar "innocently performed double entendres" schtick from George Formby? The banned "With My Little Stick Of Blackpool Rock" or "When I'm Cleaning Windows" come to mind.
Avatar 3:32pm Cecile:

I heard it was bad-boring
Avatar 3:33pm Sem Chumbo:

@common. Thx. Stupid question. Right there under my fingers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm common:

@sem: not stupid. i am clueless...most of the time. floating around life in my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Caryn:

@common: sadly not "so good it's bad", just bad. Awkward acting not helped by lousy dialogue. Prince's pal Tricky has a couple of decent lines, and that's it.
Avatar 3:41pm Rectitude EVEryone 1:

Hi CiCi
Avatar 3:44pm ranjit:

i think that piano is leaking

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Caryn:

The things you stumble across while listening to the show and reading at the same time: Iggy Pop's backstage rider calls for a Bob Hope impersonator to be on hand. WTH?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Mike East:

Iggy's rider has a lot of humor written into it. Much cooler than the boring crap I have to look at all day.
  3:57pm emmagineering:

that roger miller! and his brother henry, of BURNED BOOK FAME. DOO WACK A DOODLE look at em burn!

Please select your chords from the following...
Avatar 4:27pm Cecile:

*punches phone keypad to the tune of the piece*
Avatar 4:27pm Droll:

I'm really enjoying the chord catalog. It unintentionally gets moody at times, which isn't what I expected. Order makes an huge difference, I'm sure it's a totally different experience backwards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm TR In MI:

chord sounds may vary. please allow for...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Mike East:

this is just an abstract interpretation of chopsticks, I think
Avatar 4:30pm Cecile:

I'm about thirty seconds away from playing the YouTube 10 hour mix of Darude's Sandstorm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Caryn:

@Cecile: well, at least Sandstorm is only 96 % repetition.
  4:32pm blee:

Intense, in a scratch your own face off with a plastic knife kind of way, but in a good way.
Avatar 4:33pm Cecile:

but if I wait long enough, probability says that song should be coming up soon in this piece.
Avatar 4:33pm Cecile:

ITA, Caryn. The rest is hair gel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Caryn:

I blame this track for me missing the connection between the Albanian prime minister and the iPod on the game show I'm watching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm common:

HAPPY weekending! beersies!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Studio B Ben:

This is all a-chord-ing to plan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Caryn:

By which I mean, this track is a very convenient excuse for not knowing the name of the Albanian prime minister.
Avatar 4:36pm Cecile:

I actually answered a question of Cyprus correctly today at the coffee shop. I got 10 cents off.
Avatar 4:38pm Cheri Pi:

I really really really need a beersie to wash the taste of Rush out of my eyeballs. Not for the faint of heart Rush haters (like me) www.funnyordie.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Parq:

Wait, now we have to have an excuse if we don't know the name of the Albanian prime minister? Most people can't even name their Congressional representative.
Avatar 4:41pm Cheri Pi:

Ickkk, yuhhjckkkk, acKKk, [cough, spit, sputter...takes last breath[[clunk]] ]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Carmichael:

The worst meetings of all are Friday afternoon meetings. Kurt, I'll check the archives later for (hopefully) some Czech pop music.

You can't hate Rush as much as I do. The mere thought of that band ... yikes.
Avatar 4:44pm Cecile:

Looks like an outtake from I Love You Man.
"7 girls at a Rush concert?"
Avatar 4:44pm Cheri Pi:

thank you Carmichael for those soothing words. I'm still dry heaving from the sight and the thought... Happy Kurt Day to all!
Avatar 4:47pm Cecile:

Rush are funny. They make me laugh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Caryn:

@Parq: heh, nah, it's just that I rather enjoy when tv quiz shows are a bit more tricky (oh, my undying love for The Krypton Factor...). The downside is that they can sometimes leave you feeling like a moron for not getting most of the answers. In those situations, it feels nice to have an excuse handy (like "damn music throwing me off my game!").
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Caryn:

Rush: oh dear.
Peart on Letterman's "drum week": entertaining.
"Trailer Park Boys" references to Rush: great.

Thus ends my list of Rush-related things from worst to best.
Avatar 5:21pm northguineahills:

I wish siestas were more socially acceptable. I feel great now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Studio B Ben:

I'm having video game flashbacks, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm steve:

in America we called them "nappy naps" ngh
Avatar 5:27pm Mark Helsten:

Hey... I live in Canada! Actually, there was a documentary on Rush that came out a few years back that is actually a great thing to watch. Said from someone who does not like them, however it is a great music documentary. over.

Avatar 5:29pm Mark Helsten:

Beyond the Lighted Stage, it is called...
  5:32pm Lawrence:

Kurt saves the Rush for after the show
  5:32pm Lawrence:

or so it seems
Avatar 5:33pm northguineahills:

When I worked for Dept of City planning, during our mandated 15 minute breaks (one in the morning, one in the afternoon), most people used that time to nap at their desks.
Avatar 5:33pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i have no problem owning up to "bad" music i don't like.

but rush, i do not like.
  5:34pm Clay:

Why pick on Rush when there are easier targets like Nickelback?
Avatar 5:36pm northguineahills:

Well, Rush is diggable, Nickelback is painful (and not in a positive way)
  5:37pm Lawrence:

I just got up from a nappy nap. I suddenly wondered if Kurt played Rush for some reason and that's we're talking about it. but he didn't. You know, I'm not sure I've ever heard Nickelback.
  5:38pm Clay:

Pennywise, Nickelback, Dimebag Darrell, Quarterflash, 50-cent ...
Avatar 5:39pm dale:

this part sounds like frangry coming home from a night on the town
Avatar 5:39pm Mark Helsten:

In Canada we have mandatory 15 minute 'Rush Breaks', where we have to listen to rush.
  5:40pm Lawrence:

That's why nobody ever calls Steven Harper "leader of the free world"
  5:40pm Clay:

Love it, Mark! On the rock stations that still exist, there is often a pre-designated time period to "Get the Led out," meaning Zep, of course.
  5:41pm Clay:

*there ARE often
  5:44pm Mother May 2:

No, Clay, "is" was correct.
Avatar 5:45pm Sem Chumbo:

Let me open that beersie for you. Thos hockey mask? Safety standards, ya know? thisisnthappiness.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Caryn:

Certainly in terms of Canadian musical atrocities, Rush is probably not in the top 3, no matter how you slice it. Nickelback and Justin Bieber will probably be there, though. The third can be selected from a wide array of unfortunate Canadian acts, depending on your personal taste.
Avatar 5:48pm Sem Chumbo:

I nominate Mike Meyers.
  5:48pm Clay:

Men Without Hats, Lime, Corey Hart, Triumph, Chilliwack, Brave Belt, Franz Joli, Crowbar ... so many
Avatar 5:48pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i hate rush because i used to like them. bands i never liked i don't hate.
  5:49pm Lawrence:

You used to like the Door?!?!
  5:50pm Clay:

Kurt ... spark a fatty and put Vapor Trails on. Particularly, Earthshine. Fall in love all over again.
  5:50pm Mother May 2:

Nope, I only hate bands I never liked. U2, REM, Elvis Costello...the list goes on. Never liked 'em. Never will.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Carmichael:

That's actually quite logical, Kurt! (Got back early from a meeting, off to another one)
Avatar 5:52pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i was about to say u2 is the exception that proves the rule but, nope, foreign as it feels to say it i liked them until that sunday fucking sunday song.
  5:54pm Clay:

Kurt ... what act do you like that would be hard to admit? A guilty pleasure.
Avatar 5:55pm KP:

great show
  5:55pm Mother May 2:

Good point. I might have liked the first couple of bars of "I Will Follow," the first tune of theirs I heard the first time I heard it, but then I hated it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Carmichael:

I'm not proud. I used to like Tom Petty. But then I evolved.
Avatar 5:56pm northguineahills:

Whew! Thanks again Kurt for tickling our tympanic membranes. Have a great weekend everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Stanley:

Nice...I'm going o see this outfit in the summer at the Edinburgh Festival
Avatar 5:56pm Kurt Gottschalk:

gosh, clay - i'm not sure cuz i don't really feel guilty. there's songs by queen i like and songs by miley cyrus i like...
Avatar 5:57pm Kurt Gottschalk:

tom petty has some good stuff.
Avatar 5:57pm Rectitude says hi:

Hi KKKKKKKKKKK pppppppppppppp
  5:58pm Clay:

I don't know ... sometimes I don't believe people. It's like they're just trying to protect some kind of street-credibility. I love T. Petty's "You Got Lucky." And the video.
  5:58pm Clay:

And thanks for playing Kansas City Star!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Caryn:

I was fine with U2 until about the mid-90s or so, so I guess I took longer to get sick of them. Plenty of acts I like individual songs from, but not their whole oeuvre. Even Chicago, Eagles and Styx.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Santos L Halper:

I love Rush. Full stop. Going to revisit Vapor Trails per your recommendation Clay; I recall being pleasantly surprised on first hearing.
