Options Brian Turner: Playlist from July 16, 2013 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Im so stoked there's a new Danny & the Nightmares album... that last one years ago seemed such a one-off anomaly but is some of Daniel's best stuff ever

This Danny and the Nighmares is bloody wonderful.
Avatar 4:20pm Brian Turner:

No shit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- they should tour w/ Roky & Sabbath altogether. & just jam a lot.

I'm ambivalent about Johnston, but this is a great song.

TV OD Brian
Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

WOW you were sick.
WHen I was sick, one afternoon I watched a whole marathon of some contractor building his own house on DIY and was nearly weeping at the end, because I was so sick.
Avatar 4:43pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Ike:

Do you watch bad TV when you're sick because you can't focus on good TV because you're too sick? Or does it have some other special appeal to the sick? No comprendo. There's tons of good stuff out there to catch up on.
Avatar 4:48pm Chris from DC:

I hope so RRnov63

Avatar 4:51pm Cecile:

When I'm really horribly ill, I can't watch anything really good because I'm in danger of falling asleep during it. I watch crap then because it's not taxing.
Avatar 4:51pm Brian Turner:

Its because I was so sick that watching Harold and Kumar give a baby cocaine could only help me crawl out of my pit
Avatar 4:51pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...in *3D*...
Avatar 4:53pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Ah that terrible thump of hitting bottom: reaching the final credits on a Harold & Kumar film & thinking.... THERE MUST BE MORE TO LIVING THAN.. THIS..
Avatar 4:53pm Brian Turner:

I liked the first one.
Avatar 4:54pm Cecile:

I liked the 1st one and if they had cut out 1/2 hour out of the second, it would have been decent, too.
Avatar 4:55pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Of course that's me being an elitist snob because I've seen neither and know not sheep's piss what I'm talking about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Ike:

Ha ha, thanks Cecile & BT, that makes sense.

There are a few good but non-taxing things I could recommend though, Cecile. But not a lot. Some decent cartoons.
Avatar 4:56pm Cecile:

If you are drunk, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle is pretty stupid and funny.
Avatar 4:56pm Cecile:

Ike, I like watching Kipper when I am really sick. too.
Avatar 4:57pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Then again, last time I was stuck with a 3-day fever I ended up practically hallucinating and BRUTALLY OBSESSED with some challenge-based reality show where some gun-shop in the south makes weird custom weapons for nutcase gun hoarders.
Avatar 4:59pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...which is 800% unlike my typical TV habits, which is to say I have no TV habits.

kim salmon was in 75% of the Australian bands in the 80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Stanley:

No, Cecile. He's got a few festival dates this summer in the UK. Says he will keep gigging while he can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Ike:

RRN63, yeah, I've been eating mostly cold foods. Lots of salad made from diced local tomatoes and Kirby cucumbers, etc. A friend made babaganoush using Sicilian eggplant. It's nice. Fewer seeds than usual eggplants.
Avatar 5:12pm Cecile:

Oh, whew!
  5:12pm Marie:

@ Cecile--ah hah! I couldn't get over the similarity. :) That 'splains it. Thanks!

Avatar 5:22pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Ike:

NGH, I had some great spicy cold noodles with skate fish at a Korean joint, You Chun, in Palisades Park NJ recently.
Avatar 5:28pm northguineahills:

Damn, Ike that's cold! (awesome!)
Avatar 5:29pm northguineahills:

I tried to describe Om to a friend like this, "A band that's like Rhys Chatam/Glenn Branca on barbiturates w/ a glisten centuries past metal. Very minimal." Was I close?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well - from what I heard here Live the other month from Spain - OM sound exactly like 'Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun' w/ just Guitar & a seriously bitchin' Drummer...as a good thing...
Avatar 5:33pm Brian Turner:

Bass and drums actually --- but they added a third dude on guitar and other sundries.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Oh -Thx!

Latin music, not really a lot of variants growing out of that, right? Am I ignorant?
Avatar 5:54pm Cecile:

nope, many, many, many variants.
Avatar 5:55pm Cecile:

apart from the many different genres within Latin, it's had an influence on disco, early rock 'n' roll and hip-hop.
Avatar 5:55pm Cecile:

house music, too.
Avatar 5:56pm Cecile:

  5:56pm Marie:

Hey Cecile, I hear you on that, I guess I mean, whole genres growing out of like hip hop.
Avatar 5:58pm northguineahills:

Thanks Brian! Awesomeness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...If anyone is seriously unironically not sure about the breadth & influence of Latin Music - you could start here :
  5:59pm Marie:

I can't even type--I mean what I would call new genres, like hip hop. I know Latin has influenced, I guess, almost all types of music.
