Why, thank you, Mike! Got it from last week's list. :)

Hello my electronically transmitted friends of all sizes, shapes, and frequencies.
Avatar 7:06pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

Howdy, Devin!
Avatar 7:06pm Philo Underpants Gristlecorn:

Do the Deros live in a Hollowed out Hawaii? Or is it a quick route to China?
Avatar 7:08pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

I heard Fabio say that puns are the *lowest form of humor* -- ha! I say to that and bite my thumb at he! That's only true for people not adept at 2nd and 3rd level punning. ;)
Avatar 7:09pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

I *really* want to see Hawaii ... :,
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Mike East:

the lowest form of humor is slipping on a banana peel...because the banana peel is on the ground
  7:11pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

It's the lowness of their humor formliness, that makes them so incredibly funny.
  7:12pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

More people need to have names like "Pip" and "Arlo". Where have all the Arlo's gone?
Avatar 7:12pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

Punny thing is, I've noticed an upsurge of homophonic puns in the late night talk show circuit. Guess their writers don't find it the lowest.
Avatar 7:13pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@Devin: They are now the Mitts and the Taggs.
Avatar 7:13pm Philo Underpants Gristlecorn:

They Ar laying Lo.
  7:13pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

That has flown in some direction past my head. Mitts and Taggs?
  7:14pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

For a moment I thought you were making a pun about AR (Augmented Reality).
  7:14pm Brett:

I love this show so much
Avatar 7:14pm Philo Gristle:

Mitt R. Money and Tagg Mr. Money.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm G:

Finnegans Wake is nothing *but* puns. And maybe we'll catch up to it better in a century or two.
Avatar 7:15pm Dave E:

Good evening, I'm looking for a miracle!
  7:15pm Fredericks:

We should put a gun on our flag.
Avatar 7:15pm Bad Ronald:

punctual punative pundits!
  7:15pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Of course, my brain went silly.
  7:16pm Brett:

Watched a little bit of "Vernon, Florida" on Superbowl Sunday and thought fondly of Hearty
  7:17pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Flags in guns *have* been a mainstay in our pop culture, suppose it was only a matter of time that the other would try out the one for a change.
Avatar 7:18pm Philo Gristle:

Never tried Finnegan, but appreciated R.A. Wilson's discussions of it.... even if English was my first language I'd think twice before dipping into it!
Avatar 7:18pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

Hearty, what do you think about Britain's King Richard III's remainders found paved under a parking lot in Leicester?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Mike East:

we should have puns on our flag
  7:19pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Oh I've been meaning to see that movie. I like Errol Morris films quite a bunch! I think he's got a sharp brick of a brain in that skull.
  7:19pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

ALSO: Hello, Brett, G, Dave E, Fredericks, and Bad Ronald!
Avatar 7:20pm heartywhite:

Poor Richard's unsuccessful trepanation!
Avatar 7:20pm Dave E:

Sheep brains make you smart!
Avatar 7:20pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@Devin: Coincidentally, I believe it was a sharp axe discovered to have been in Richard's skull.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Mike East:

what should I order for dinner?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Most of the bedtime stories my mom told me as a child started out like that: "What's a pun a time. ..."
Avatar 7:21pm Bad Ronald:

Hello, Hearty eve indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm G:

Yep, it takes time, Philo, and the puns can include lots of languages, obscure slang, etc. But I started at 16, and I get a lot. Joyce also deliberately saved all his notebooks and drafts, which helps a lot. Still plenty I know I don't get. But neither do the other hardcore FW people I hang with, who've been reading it since the 50s in some cases...
Avatar 7:21pm Philo Gristle:

I remember a story in Fortean Times from the 90's about people doing homemade trepanation.... all that oxygen in the brain made 'em happy giddy joyous!

Avatar 7:23pm Dave E:

I want to see him rollerskate!
Avatar 7:24pm Philo Gristle:

@G The closest I got was Flann O'Brien....
Avatar 7:25pm Bad Ronald:

@Philo: I prefer Nitrous.
Avatar 7:27pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

Is sheriff derived from shire? [this one's a G ? ]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm G:

Just before his death in 1941, Joyce wrote that Flann's debut At Swim Two Birds was the best thing he'd read in years. If you have time, read everything F O'B wrote under several pseudoymns. :)
Avatar 7:27pm Philo Gristle:

@BR Well, with nitrous no drill required, but trepanation is one time and permanent. Just use a cork, and unplug when you need a dose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm G:

absolutely yes, Honey. originally, a sheriff enforced law in a shire in England. a county was an area a count is in charge of, lol
Avatar 7:30pm Philo Gristle:

@G Only read AT SWIM and THIRD, second in Finnish and English. Been a couple of decades since the last time, though!
Avatar 7:30pm Bad Ronald:

@Philo: I need that for my mouth.

RE: the good king, isn't there an issue as to the DNA being spread as far and wide as L Lohan's STDs?
Avatar 7:31pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@G: A longtime friend of mine in Switzerland is a linguist. He started off with a major advantage in that land, learning several languages, like French, German, Italian and Schweizerdeutsch from birth.
Avatar 7:33pm Philo Gristle:

Greece..... tomorrow I'll buy some spanakopita methinks.
Avatar 7:34pm Philo Gristle:

@Mike Did you decide what you're ordering yet?? Get some greek food!
  7:34pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Does anyone have a van and a love of transporting boxes from one location to another?
Avatar 7:35pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

One of my first signs of independence from my mother was preferring mayonnaise over the nasty Miracle Whip she was always putting into our potato and tuna salads.
Avatar 7:36pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

Devin, you found a home?! Yay! You'll soon find out who your true friends are. ;)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Mike East:

@Philo - ha! I was just thinking that...unfortunately, I think the only option for greek would be a greek salad right now...which I had my fill of last week....still haven't decided....getting hungry...
Avatar 7:36pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

He said "dairy area," heh-heh.
  7:37pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

I did! Signed the lease right before coming here.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Mike East:

@Honey - my mother had the same thing in reverse...she prefers miracle whip, and now that she's got no one else to feed, she is in her glory.
Avatar 7:37pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@Mike: Stuffed grape leaves? I have a jar in the cabinet that I've been putting off fixing. Maybe I'll get around to that this weekend.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Mike East:

congrats, Devin! Jersey or NY?
Avatar 7:38pm Philo Gristle:

@Mike Well on Doug's list I clamored for some seafood pizza. Been about 14 years since the last one I had (a good one, that is).
  7:38pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Jersey City!!
Avatar 7:38pm Philo Gristle:

Yay, Devin! Good luck!!
Avatar 7:38pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@Mike: So both our mothers were miracle whipped! :)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:40pm Mike East:

yeah, Honey, I got a bunch at the market last week and made some delicious greek salads for me and my wife...who discovered that she does NOT like calamata olives

hmmm...seafood pizza sounds good. To the menu book!
  7:40pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Wait... isn't Miracle Whip supposed to be Marshmallow?
Avatar 7:40pm Philo Gristle:

No mayo or miracle whip, than you very much! Butter or hummus, depending on whether I want to clot my veins or not.
Avatar 7:40pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@Devin: You can walk to work! Your governor made a fine showing on DL last night. Guess he's all right for a Republican. ;)
Avatar 7:41pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@Devin: It's so treacly sweet, miguel be marshmallow, yech.
  7:41pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Hummus is a beautiful thing. Can do all kinds of things with it. I get bored by it every now and then, but I always come back around within a few days.
Avatar 7:42pm Philo Gristle:

Oh, wait. I'm talking bread. Rye bread. Italian bread. Crispbread. Kalamata olive bread.
Avatar 7:42pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

Oh, mmmm, I loves the calamatas!
  7:43pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

That really does sound nasty. Can't imagine what it'd taste like in a salad or sandwich. Mayo is what it is- and perhaps what it is, is kinda gross- but at least it's not super sugary sweet goop.
Avatar 7:43pm Philo Gristle:

Oh, wait. I'm talking bread spread. Butter. Hummus. Greek hummus. Butter. Red pepper hummus.
Avatar 7:45pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@Mike: My mother's taste prevailed over the family *except* where my brother was concerned. As the youngest and a girl, I never got what I preferred to be on the menu. I didn't get to experience vegetables until I was out on my own, simply because my brother didn't like them.
  7:45pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

My opinions of Christie has been formed mostly by people on WFMU. I like him as a character... guess I'll see what I think of him as a politician.

Speaking of politics... has anyone watched "House of Cards"?
Avatar 7:46pm Philo Gristle:

Devin, you may very well think so but I couldn't POSSIBLY comment.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Mike East:

@Devin - I watched the first 20 minutes...not sure what I think yet, but I'm wondering why the last three things I've seen Kevin Spacey in have involved him kneeling over a dead dog.
Avatar 7:48pm Philo Gristle:

Which is to say we watched the Brit original several years ago, and it was WONDER-full. No idea if the new one is any good....
Avatar 7:48pm Philo Gristle:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Mike East:

ok, I'm going in the other direction, tho inspired by seafood - Chinese Crispy shrimp and Walnuts.
Avatar 7:49pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

Speaking of British imports, Mike / Devin et al: Have you seen any eps of "The IT Crowd"? We watched a "marathon" of 2nd season during Superbowl time, and some bits were hilarious.
  7:49pm Fillyjonk:

Boy, Arizona politics is really complicated....
Avatar 7:49pm Philo Gristle:

@Mike Still sounds good. Enjoy!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Mike East:

I'll check it out, Honeywater...have not seen any.
  7:51pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

HAW. He's s so gross, but I have found myself unable to stop watching. I'm about half-way through the series now. I really don't know why I'm watching it. It doesn't really have any elements in it that I find particularly appealing, and yet...
  7:51pm Marmalade Kitty:

wrong shade?
Avatar 7:51pm Philo Gristle:

Any comics nerds might enjoy Jim Woodring posters and assorted Fantagraphics books that pop up in IT CROWD. Several bellylaughs in the second season.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm G:

@Honey: Sorry, was playing cards here and not looking for a few hands. Yeah, I wrote the review of the Zurich Joyce Foundation for a big Joyce journal about ten years ago... Züritüütsch (Zurich German!)
  7:52pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

I like "IT Crowd"! I've only watched a few episodes---

HAHAH, nice one MK!
Avatar 7:52pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@MK: Are you blue?
  7:53pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Woodring is great, for whatever reason he stayed off my radar for a long time. But I am trying to change that. You like Kim Deitch, Philo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Matthyou Springwater:

Hello Hearty and Heartyfolk and Hummusfolk! Checking in for a quick hiya!
  7:54pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Hey there, hi there, HELLOOO there, Matthyou!
Avatar 7:55pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

@Devin: Yeah, I don't remember being grabbed by the first season, but the theater outing and dinner party eps we saw had us doubled over. I really like Katherine Parkinson. It's sort of a slice of reprehensible ethics a la "Seinfeld."
Avatar 7:55pm Philo Gristle:

Love Kim Deitch! And, Frankly, Woodring is a genius.
Avatar 7:55pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

Hey, Matthyou!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Matthyou Springwater:

Hello with extra OOOOOs to everyone :)
Avatar 7:56pm Philo Gristle:

Hiya Matt!

Oh, and Seinfeld is really just a rip off Louie's Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. My story and I'm sticking to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm G:

@Honey: A linguist you know in Switzerland? I thought Stephin Merritt killed Saussure back in the 90s :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Matthyou Springwater:

Less Spiritual Nutrition tonight, more Chinese nutrition (good ideer, Mr. Riverwater! ) Alas, they didn't have Chinese truffles there.
  7:58pm Marmalade Kitty:

Ahhh, thats better..
  7:58pm Devin_Gristlemancer:

Alright, one and all. I'll see you in the many desperate and wonderful places in which I will see you next. Until then, have a lovely night/day/existence.
Avatar 7:58pm Honey_U_Kettlewater:

Thanks ever muchly, Hearty! G'night dear people! Till we meet again ...

@G: more on linguistics next time perhaps.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Mike East:

good luck with the move, Devin. Good night, all! Thanks for the conversation and recommendations!
Avatar 7:59pm heartywhite:

Thanks, friends! Many blessings this week! Thanks for listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Matthyou Springwater:

@kitty If you tilt the screen, you can just barely see the avatar frame ;) But great job on the blues!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Mike East:

hey matt! thanks!
Avatar 7:59pm Philo Gristle:

I'm truffled out! Thanks Hearty! Thanks listenerds! Enjoy your dinner, Mike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Matthyou Springwater:

Peace out, and think through!
G'night y'all!
