  3:02pm Tom G:

  3:02pm Mike East:

  3:03pm german rodriguez:

  3:03pm duke:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm jason:

what's up Tom G! Hey Mike East! hey german rodriguez and duke! good to be here with you
  3:07pm Nate in Detroit:

Woo! Jason's back! After all the Neil Young talk on Duane's show, I was thinking skipping out on Irwin and listening to the 3 Chord Monte episode where Joe played an hour straight of Neil's stage banter...but I think I'll stick around for Jason instead.
  3:08pm Tom G:

I dig the new Neil more than I thought I would!
  3:10pm Lazy Ed:

Part of me sort of loves the new Neil album, part of me sort of hates it, but by far the largest portion of my fractured psyche thinks it's sort of...weird.
  3:10pm Tom G:

they took jason off because he is dangerous and unpredictable ... but he is crafty and sneaks back on like a ninja of the airwaves.
  3:13pm Melody:

Hey, Nate, what's the date of that Three Chord Monte show?
  3:14pm Nate in Detroit:

@Melody - Here's the link: http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/40746
  3:15pm Michele:

What a great surprise, I didn't know you were doing a fill-in! Hi Jason!!!
  3:15pm Tom G:

Old-timer covers Oh Susannah, Tom Dooley, etc? Had the potential to be godawful but Neil handled it pretty well.
  3:16pm Matt from Springfield:

Talk is cheap...
Speech is FREE!!

Welcome back Jason! Cecile's "Free Speech" board has returned, hopefullly she'll stop by!
  3:16pm Melody:

Thanks Nate!
  3:17pm northguineahills:

Holy crap, I just played a Tyvek cassette this week (just finished listening to all of my "Ts"). Never heard them played before.
  3:17pm Alison:

Hi Jason! You gotta check out the Paperhead this weekend. Thursday night at Death by Audio and Friday night at Cake Shop. Gonna be so rad. I caught them with Ty Segall in May and they were better than the record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm jason:

oh yeah Alison! They're playing with D Watusi (same tour as last time around)-- great Nashville bands!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm jason:

hey Nate that was an awesome 3 Chord Monte!
  3:26pm Lizzie:

Hey Jason!
  3:27pm Nate in Detroit:

@Jason - Yeah, that 3CM show was hilarious, especially listening to it at the time, not knowing how long it would go on. On an unrelated note, I see that Lame Drivers are coming to Detroit in a couple weeks. I'll do my best to make the show! OmniCorp is an interesting venue, should be a fun time.
  3:30pm Denise in DC:

Hey Jason -- haven't heard you before. Good show so far.
  3:31pm Nate in Detroit:

Dang! Apparently I just missed The Paperhead in Detroit on Sunday. :-/
  3:32pm Cheri Pi:

OMG It's Jason!!! & the Urinals! on a Wednesday afternoon...
  3:33pm Cheri Pi:

Nate I saw them Monday in Cincinnati and they brought their late-teen A-Game. So glad I went.
  3:33pm keving:

Urinals! Got a bootleg of this seven inch at the record fair in 2004 on urine-colored vinyl.
  3:39pm common:

glad you are here.
  3:39pm Denise in DC:

Jason, if you're sitting in for Irwin, you'll need to say something curmudgeonly every now and then.
  3:40pm Cheri Pi:

Yay- I've been wanting to hear Vaselines lately!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm jason:

good call Denise. Hey Cheri Pi, KevinG, Lizzie, Matt, NGH, Michele!

Nate, awesome!! Leave you're email in your next comment if you'd like, hope to meet you at the hacker space
  3:52pm Matt from Springfield:

@Jason: Say something curmudgeonly, with a string of different crazy voices! Even better! ;)
  3:58pm dvd:

where's the party at?
  3:58pm Ike:

Hooray for Talk's Cheap!
  3:59pm Matt from Springfield:

You're looking and listening to it!

Hey Ike!
  3:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Hmm, EAS tests are always during Wed afternoons, wonder if that's a prank on Irwin...
  4:00pm Denise in DC:

It's a government conspiracy.
  4:01pm Denise in DC:

This Asha Bhosle track makes me want to shimmy.
  4:04pm Cecile:

hey, jason!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm jason:

Ha ha, Night Dolls With Hairspray!
  4:11pm Lizzie:

  4:13pm Chris Lillywhite:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm jason:

  4:15pm Holly in NC:

@Jason & friends - Whoa, nice surprise! Amazing show so far, Jason. Sadly have to go, will check archives.

1 thumb up for new Neil (but I admittedly have a blind 3rd eye re Neil)
  4:29pm Matt from Springfield:

An A-Bomb (Amanda Bomb) is going to go off somewhere today!!
  4:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Legalize Music!!
Thanks to the FMA, it should stay that way! Kudos Jason over your many years of managing the FMA.
  4:36pm Matt from Springfield:

@Jason: In fact, are you slated to host or be a guest on Radio Free Culture? Managing the FMA seems a good topic, right up the alley of that monthly show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm jason:

Hey thanks Matt, I'm so exicted about Radio Free Culture! Benjamen Walker's hosting this month's and I'll be hosting August's.

Radio Free Culture is a new monthly program, and for those who missed Ken's interview with Brewster Kahle of the Internet Archive, here it is:

  4:42pm Cecile:

Doesn't guizado mean stew in spanish? Nice name for an eclectic band.
  4:46pm Cecile:

well gotta go, have a great rest of your afternoon everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm jason:

catch you later Cecile, overseer of the Free Speech comments page for Talk's Cheap!
  4:47pm Cecile:

chaperone, more like it. hahahahaha
  4:51pm Cheri Pi:

*Cecile: "Hey kids-no fooling around here on the board-I don't want to see these panels getting steamy"***
  4:51pm KT:

glad you finally listened to night dolls!
  4:56pm Matt from Springfield:

All right! Great to know Jason! And I agree: Radio Free Culture is a very WFMU-style foray into public affairs programming. Very encouraged by the episode last month.
  5:02pm northguineahills:

Yes, Cecile, guizado is usually stew in Iberian language.
  5:02pm Matt from Springfield:

Once again: All right! :)
  5:03pm don:

MarginalS, great track! went to FMA and dl'd promptly.
  5:03pm Matt from Springfield:

"Mr Wilson Metal Beach" by Afrika Pseudobruitismus from Waikiki Kosmos,
I like *everything* about those names.
  5:03pm bennett4senate:

sup Jason my coworker was feeling the Bollywood selections, and I am feeling this Waikiki Kosmos
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm jason:

hey thanks B4S! Hope you're having a great day in L.A.
  5:23pm other david:

Number stations are still active on shortwave :)

Russians & Cubans send them pretty much every day!

Great to hear you back on the air Jason
  5:28pm Joe D:

BROOKLYN ACK. killin it Jason
  5:29pm ?:

My guess is Irwin's getting married today.
  5:37pm Listening Out There:

....Irwin? Hello? Are you there? Sigh...

  5:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi OD!
Comma, zero, comma, zero, backslash... :)
  5:45pm other david:

Matt - stop, that's far too raunchy for this hour!
  5:46pm Matt from Springfield:

Even more relevant, other david: are there any MORSE transmissions on shortwave you can listen to?
  5:48pm other david:

Matt, yep - not as many as say 10+ years ago.. but off the top of my head, Russians, Cubans, French and Israeli's (diplomatic or military) still use morse to send coded messages - every day, some stations are on all day.

And of course there are the hams... "gm om, fb, ur 599, qsl?"
  5:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, still so much to analog radio -- well, like you said, if you ever find a spare shortwave transmitter, you can donate that to FMU, and listen without stream buffering and interruptions!
  5:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Do you "ham" as well?
  5:54pm Thomas:

Great to hear you on the air today Jason! It made driving around looking for parking really fun just now
  5:55pm other david:

Not a ham... yet.. I think it would be worthwhile if I ever wound up being questioned about owning a shortwave transmitter!

There's a very interesting world of shortwave pirate dj's.. around 6.925mhz every night in the states, you'll hear mysterious folks spinning tracks - sometimes they get caught and named, most of the time you never find out who they were/are, or you find out only after their death.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm jason:

thanks for listening, stay tuned and see you soon!
  5:58pm northguineahills:

Sick set, Jason!
  5:58pm other david:

thanks jason, great show - hope to hear you on the air again soon!
  5:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks jason! Amazing show, glad you're doing fill-ins!

Take care everyone!
