Avatar 12:34pm slugluv1313:

@EFD -- YAY Graham Parker!!! thank you!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm McGroovey:

I saw L7 open for somebody somewhere in the early nineties. Webster Hall? Irving Plaza? The Ritz? I'm hoping I'll remember who they were opening for before I hit "Post comment!"... Hmmm ... Sugar? Hmmm no....

I liked L7 ok, but they weren't who I was there to see... My cousin was friends with one of them, but my cousin wasn't there... Yeah, more and more, the nineties are too remote to remember.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm McGroovey:

No. My cousin was friends with someone in the Lunachicks. I get the two bands confused. And I saw both live under similar circumstances, around the same time. Whatever.
Avatar 12:39pm slugluv1313:

met Lene Lovich & her band when i was at Douglass/Rutgers (i was volunteering with the concert committee that presented the show) -- so sweet & intelligent & beautiful
  12:39pm JetBoy of Brooklyn:

Avatar 12:40pm slugluv1313:

  12:40pm Kat in Chicago:

Happy to hear Le Tigre too. On my recent NYC jaunt, I spent longer than necessary browsing in Other People’s Clothes in Ridgewood because they were playing “This Island” in its entirety.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm tim from washington:

I distinctly remember Arista records' red tape cases in the 80s. I can think of many Arista sartists I have other than Lou Reed records.

Tycoon is a band name that has confidence!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm efd:

I just had to play Tycoon after Mitchell mentioned them in his opening Author's Note.
Avatar 12:54pm MelaniR:

Hi MitchellC! Hi Hoboken Jack! Hi efd!
  12:54pm MitchellC:

Originally, Tycoon were going to be named Cash. I'd have mentioned that in the book, but didn't see a reason to bring up Tycoon in any context.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm tim from washington:

Oh yeah! I've got the Twilley records in my collection too.

Hey MitchellC! Thanks for answering my Crazy Elephant question. Right from the source!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm efd:

Hi @MelaniR! I enjoyed seeing your name pop up in the book a few times!

Hey full metal monkey!
Avatar 1:01pm slugluv1313:

@listener 126464 -- yup! the concert committee was "Rambling Rose Productions" -- we had Gang of Four (when Hugo & a friend of mine met & fell totally head over heels with each other ❤️❤️❤️), Iggy (he and his band were the BEST! total sweethearts, they loved the food some of us cooked -- "usually we just get stale cold cuts!" etc.), The Roches, The Ramones (also total dolls -- Joey's girlfriend was wiping down the tables in the dressing room/green room -- i freaked, told her, "noooo!. that's our job!" & she was like, "ah, no big deal!"), many many others i am spacing out on right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm full metal monkey:

@prof.fuzz that’s great. I’m assuming that the pics of the pedal board you posted on Instagram is the board your using in studio
  1:12pm MitchellC:

Jessie, those are two of my favorite Lou Reed albums. The first time I met Lou Reed was was we were putting together the publicity material for Street Hassle, and his Bottom Line shows around that time were amazing.
Avatar 1:12pm slugluv1313:

omg yes! the B-52s! also so sweet, i remember they were talking with us, how some of them had never been this far north before -- Kate was friends with an apartment-mate's girlfriend -- iirc, she was staying with her in the apartment upstairs from us
Avatar 1:14pm MelaniR:

I remember Lou Reed coming in to the office; I was very intimidated. You were amazing with him, Mitchell.

Yeah, Lou could be scary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm prof.fuzz:

@FMM: yup, plus an extra pedal on the side for one song. we're recording those two new songs we played at wonderville for an upcoming single release.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Jessie:

MitchellC--Those were the shows that formed the Take No Prisoners album correct?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Carmichael:

Heya Evan. GTO was one of my 1st 45s bought as a kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm mrdonutsu:

Jessie, yep!
Avatar 1:19pm Hoboken Jack:

Hi Melani and 126464! Mitchell, I am really enjoying the interview -- by the time I was in my teens and paying attention to labels, Arista was indeed pretty mainstream, so this "pre-history" is very interesting to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm efd:

@Hoboken Jack I swear we'll get around to talking about Arista soon! I've got one more Bell Records song I need to play, though...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm efd:

I never thought the day would come when I'd play Barry Manilow on my show, but here we are!
Avatar 1:35pm MelaniR:

efd: I'll lose all credibility here but I don't care! I really had fun seeing Barry on Broadway (closest I'll get to a Vegas show)!
Avatar 1:35pm slugluv1313:

iirc -- wasn't Barry Manilow wearing a Screw t-shirt on the back cover of his first LP?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Figgsrock:

As a child of the 70s that owns more than one Barry Manilow album, this is an excellent deep cut choice EFD.

I thought this was the first Elton John record that was talked about - hahaha!

efd - Just consider it Freeform radio at it's finest.
  1:36pm Joe R.:

And, seeing The Bay City Rollers with all the screaming fans took me back to when I saw The Beatles at Shea Stadium (well, on a smaller level, of course). We screamed through those shows, too. Regrets, I have a few...
