Listener comments!

Avatar 8:59am Lolabelle Pancake:

The House of Nonsense was Courtney's first attempt at a poutin' shanty. Admittedly it was overly ambitious, and was misunderstood by his neighbors, who complained about violations of local zoning regulations. Eventually it was downsized to a modest, shack-sized redoubt.
Avatar 12:04pm Lolabelle Pancake:

Also, it was attracting curious amusement-seekers. "The wrong kind of riff-raff," Courtney complained.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:17pm G:

So a bunch of pre-1923 music recordings went into public domain in the US on Jan 1. Is Courtney going to get into mashups or something?
  6:17pm Listener Robert:

Does that say "FORGET DULL CARE" or "FORGET BULL CARE"?
  6:18pm Listener Robert:

Maybe "FORGET GULL CARE".
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:21pm G:

Is that the building Formby was cleaning windows on when he was inspired to write that song?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:47pm G:

I mean, it is a British building (6d and 3d admission)
Avatar 6:57pm Lolabelle Pancake:

Courtney "borrowed" the design—typography and all—from an existing structure.
Avatar 6:58pm Lolabelle Pancake:

He determined that the design was "in the Public Domain." That was his determination.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:01pm dale:

i only buy bodenheim boodgie woodgie.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:02pm ultradamno:

It doesn't look like a shanty that would tolerate much poutin', actually.
  7:02pm P-90:

The short, sad slide from shanty to redoubt.
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Bruce S.:

was this were Courtney worked before he got into radio?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:04pm ultradamno:

Were these available in the gift shop? acomfychair.com...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:04pm dale:

courtney was one of those celebrated gods of the airwaves, a telegraph operator. before that he was a kerosene taster.
  7:04pm P-90:

Lotsa fellers will tell you the thing they’re “borrowing” is in this “public domain.”
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:04pm Bruce S.:

I was listening to this great record on line Dixie Lee,you Know thats Dixie Leeee, it's great
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Euneeda S. Bodenheim:

I'm visiting with my gal pal Indeeda here in California. Thanks to modern mechanics we can listen from the past!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm StringOFperils:

The future is a fine fine show.
  7:07pm Laura L:

Even if the House of Nonsense's design is not in the Public Domain, Courtney can use his powers of eminent domain--and the House can't be worth more than a Rancho Malario in trade!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:07pm G:

I thought the show's first mic break was always a rant or a whine, not a guarantee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well that was a larger band ...is that a thing now??...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm loveless:

A. A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh is going into the public domain this year. Anybody have any moneymaking ideas?
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Bruce S.:

I don't Know if I want Courtney to know were I live
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:10pm G:

Winnie the Poop. Remade as a talking bear turd cartoon.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:10pm dale:

winnie the poo, a scat porno.
  7:10pm Andrew Benepe:

Codge!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:11pm dale:

so someone like disney doesn't own the character? ANYONE can profit from the likeness?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:11pm geegee vindaloo:

Operation game? Except it's a poop in his tummy?
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Bruce S.:

Who owns the name "old Codger" can that be franchised or merchandised?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:13pm G:

dale: The first Pooh bpok was published 1926, so its 95 years is up. But the owner of Pooh from later publications may have a legal department paid to throw up obstacles.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:13pm dale:

chew tube, the chewing tobacco channel is quite informative and oral cancer-causing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm loveless:

Disney is in danger of losing copyright protection for their Winnie the Pooh character.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:14pm dale:

...but you laugh all the way to the oncologist!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:14pm ultradamno:

Eeyore seems like a natural to find his way here once freed into the public domain
  7:14pm Listener Robert:

I'll search for SU Tube over my vacuum tube CPU.
  7:14pm P-90:

Just remember: the character of “Tigger” is a Disney product, still wholly controlled by The Mouse.
Avatar 7:15pm Lolabelle Pancake:

If any listeners did not receive their Old Codger Radio Show 2022 Guarantee of Satisfaction, please contact me at the International House of Pancake, in Union, NJ. We have lots of extras.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:15pm rrg:

"Steamboat Willie" (1929) falls into the public domain in two years. And this time Disney may not get Congress to do their bidding and extend the term of copyright beyond 95 years.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:15pm ultradamno:

I met Tigger in Florida as a kid. I don't know what Walt's minion's did to him, but he did not seem himself at all.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:16pm geegee vindaloo:

Is Sterling Holloway still alive to do voice acting?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I think Pooh should sample illicit drugs with Curious George as a source of reliable information... call it Eeyoriweird. They could give 'em thumbs up & down like Siskel & Ebert...
  7:16pm P-90:

long gone
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Bruce S.:

The Old Codger..... A guarentee of sotisfaction with every show!
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Bruce S.:

notice I said Sotisfaction, Just wanted you to notice that
Avatar 7:19pm Lolabelle Pancake:

Courtney interviewed Curious George on his radio show when WFMU was broadcasting from East Orange decades ago. For a wealthy, superstar monkey, George was very humble and gave all due credit to H.A. Rey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if they made them Major Motion Pictures I would be riveted...
  7:19pm P-90:

“Erehwon” is old hat, try new “Eeyorewon”
Avatar 7:20pm Lolabelle Pancake:

This Mary Lou Williams platter was expertly scrubbed by Courtney! It sounds pristine.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:20pm dale:

lolabelle - is their a court of grievance if you feel that the guarantee isn't worth the onion skin it was printed on?
Avatar 7:21pm Lolabelle Pancake:

Dale, you'll have to read the fine print, footnotes, asterisks, carve-outs and passages in Latin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...session w/ George lost now to the aether, not to say ether...either...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...have her scrubbed & brought to my poutin' shanty ...if she played my piano I'd be her soprano...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:22pm dale:

the fine print - like a herbert hoover nuptual agreement!
  7:23pm P-90:

*rimshot*
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Bruce S.:

I think Courtney voted for Herbert Hoover
  7:25pm aint Paul:

I wonder if 'Easy Blues' came before 'Powerhouse'?
  7:25pm Listener Robert:

I flew with Herbert Hoover. True story.
  7:25pm P-90:

“nuptial agreements” should make a comeback
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Bruce S.:

He figured Hoover's an economist, at least the economy will be good under Hoover
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I always Vote my wallet ...which always means the opposite of the last guy...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:27pm dale:

filthiest song i've heard in a bit.
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Bruce S.:

Lucille Bogan is tops
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:28pm dale:

oh - it was a culinary ditty!
  7:29pm P-90:

You’re supposed to listen to what economists say about the economy, what their models and theories suggest. Never ever put an economist in a post that has any power to actually influence the economy. Duh.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm ultradamno:

Damn charleston...gateway to jitterbugging!
  7:30pm Listener Robert:

Mother and Daddy didn't know Hoover was on the plane (flying to Miami, or maybe back) until they tried to take me up front to see the pilot. The Secret Service stopped us because they had the whole front section reserved for Hoover's party.
  7:30pm N'Lo:

Ha ha tuned in just in time from Baltimore!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...yeah - that would be a clear conflict of interest - if they knew more about Money & stuff...
  7:32pm Listener Robert:

That's the only way to get those filthy hippie DJs into a bathtub.
  7:33pm Marc15:

Were you ever known as The Young Codger?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:33pm dale:

i thought hoover was gone long before 1972
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:33pm dale:

marc15 for the win!!! ha ha....
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Bruce S.:

Those WFMU DJs with their crazy Art music when they gonna learn
  7:34pm Listener Robert:

I'm older than you think, Dale. In fact we were flying one of those Super Constellation prop planes.
  7:34pm P-90:

I want the rights to the animated “L’il Codger” character
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:35pm G:

Ruthie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I'm a fairly clean hippie ...but my bathtub itself has seen better days...
  7:36pm Listener Robert:

Actually I used to see "Connies" over the turnpike landing at Newark Airport until they were retired many years later.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:36pm G:

dale: Hoover died in 1964
  7:36pm P-90:

Also want to discuss the “Toddler Codger” trademark for diapers, bottle warmers, blankies, etc.
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Bruce S.:

Ruth Etting was big with all four Grandparents, Sophie Tucker, eddie Cantor etc..
Avatar 7:37pm timinoak:

Oh how I love you Ruth Etting. Thank you Old Codger Show for introducing me.
Avatar 7:37pm Lolabelle Pancake:

Courtney once tried to sell his life story to Marvel. The discussions about his "superpowers" were not convincing.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:38pm G:

Can't Courtney kill with a sneer at 50 paces?
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Bruce S.:

Courtney has the ability to clear a room in two minutes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hoover was a mover - & a groover. & quite impeccable but for the occasionally piquant requirement of slightly more deodorant.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:39pm ultradamno:

He did present them with Sophie Tucker's signed affidavit attesting to said superpowers, correct?
Avatar 7:40pm Lolabelle Pancake:

Something like that, ultra.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:40pm dale:

g - i googled and it gave me j edgar's death date. whoopsy.
  7:40pm Marc15:

Thank you, Dale
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:40pm G:

Yeah, Herbie H died after JFK. Weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Oh J. Edgar never wore the same panties twice. Very high standards. Of course.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:43pm G:

Flip's copyright claimants had legal toadies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well - great balls of fire & all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Wait, what? The triumphant return of Flip the Frog?
Avatar 🎸 7:43pm (Murakami Whywolf))):

"Small Fry" was used significantly in one Major Motion Picture about a meek little fish who's trying to be a Tough Guy, it might have been from Van Buren or another of the down-market animators.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:44pm ultradamno:

If they aren't happy about it, they can ribbet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oh not JerryLee...
  7:44pm Listener Robert:

Johnny Carson famously wore new socks every time. Eccentric? Well, who wouldn't, if they could afford it?
Avatar 🎸 7:44pm (((Murakami Whywolf):

Back then, a 'man-boob' was the progeny of a man and a booby, which latter is a type of bird.
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Bruce S.:

I like underware to be washed at least once before i'm really comfortable
  7:46pm P-90:

Can’t you see it: Toddler Codger JamJams (think bunny suit, but with an ATTITUDE), Toddler Codger Crib Buddy toys, and that powder you sprinkle when you’ve diapering a baby: Toddler Codger Crotch Powder (try saying THAT five times fast)
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Bruce S.:

Rev, not Jerry Lee, martin & lewis 's jerry lewis
  7:47pm Listener Robert:

Oh-oh! I think the Coca-Cola Company may have a problem with this one. And we know from "Dr. Strangelove" how formidable they are.
  7:47pm Core in Tempe:

Why God, oh why has the music of Flip slowly seeped into my consciousness and planted seeds. Why must I now look forward to hearing this, why has it grown on me? Courtney, you bastard!
  7:48pm Glistener MW:

Courtney, Gus, and Lolabelle, you have no idea how much this warms the cockles of my cold dead cobweb-filled heart. 🐸
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:52pm dale:

  7:53pm P-90:

Jerry started every day with a brand new pair of socks. The kind of quirky little behavior adopted by successful adults who grew up dirt poor and wearing socks until they crumbled. Not that uncommon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Really good socks - a great if simple pleasure.
