If I'm at a Molokai bar, I'm having a tropical drink, none of this milk.

Love the long sets; that's the essence of freeform, if you ask me.

Love you, Mary!

I'm up for some non-dairy Moloko-plus with great lashings of andrenachrome.

Hello folks! That whole “Live DJ” thing on the homepage sent me here.

JakeGould! a new feature! glad to see it caught your eye!
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 3:22pm JakeGould:

I’m happy there is a feature to detect whether a DJ is alive or not.

someone i've known for several years and with whom wfmu has surely been mentioned in conversation many dozens of times was surprised a few months ago when i mentioned that none (or practically none) of whmu's programs are pre-recorded.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 3:28pm Franco Twinkie:

David, someone has to be hall monitor, it might as well be you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:29pm coelacanth∅:

and, with you on that Mary (@3.05)

Robert was out here in Seattle just a few months ago with Tom Buckner. Gig at Cornish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:32pm Webhamster Henry:

@coelocanthø - some of the Sheena streams are recorded, but the DJs sit in and hang out on the chatboard. So the DJs are live even if the shows aren't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:33pm Webhamster Henry:

We were going to have a New Music Fest in the Mine at the end of the month, but the timing didn't work out. Robert Dick was supposed to be one of the artists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:38pm coelacanth∅:

Henry i think that's sometimes the case with ichiban. certainly sometimes. and sometimes they're not even hanging around the comments.
someone deleted a few of my posts a few weeks ago on one show when i realised it was pre-recorded and commented about it - like they were intending to fool people and i'd busted them!
pretty silly.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 3:39pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, even the robot programmer lady at WFMU is good. I was driving around the other day listening to a local NPR station that prides itself on it's 'eclectic' music programming, HA! it was anything but eclectic! It sounded like, well, a robot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Wed. 9/4/19 3:39pm fred:

Good afternoon David, Ruth and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:39pm coelacanth∅:

...and i figure Hearty White is pre-recorded, at least a lot of the time. obviously partially pre-recorded sometimes, at least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:41pm coelacanth∅:

robot programmer lady? you mean the owl thing?
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 3:41pm david w:

I believe the live DJ thing is kind of a FMU gospel. And certainly a priority of Dr. Schulkind.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 3:42pm Franco Twinkie:

That voice. I don't know what the hell it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:43pm coelacanth∅:

the night owl. i think it's a male programming that female voice. not sure.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 3:47pm david w:

fred! hello! I got swept up in this robot lady chat....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:49pm coelacanth∅:

but yeah the music's excellent, but i can't listen to a robot talking; or support the concept.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 3:51pm Franco Twinkie:

Me neither. I hate taking cars or appliances - "Hal. I can't do that."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:54pm Webhamster Henry:

Owlsun is programmed by Dave Amels, a/k/a DA the DJ. Every once in a while, he'll update it a little. It can pick up some cues from chat board.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 3:55pm Webhamster Henry:

The name is a kind of parody of "Allison Steele, the Night Bird"
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:02pm Mary Wing:

What's all this about a robot programmer lady?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 4:10pm Webhamster Henry:

It's the overnights on the Ichiban stream:
wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 4:10pm coelacanth∅:

wfmu.org...
creepy owl, good music
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 4:11pm coelacanth∅:

oops pardon the redundancy
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:14pm david w:

Fascinating, this analysis. Thanks, team.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 4:14pm coelacanth∅:

...and the disturbing facsimile of a human voice comes on frequently, every 3-4 songs.
can't do it.
it represents one of the biggest problems with our world.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:24pm Mary Wing:

Ah, interesting. I had no idea that the Ichiban stream had a robot for overnights.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Wed. 9/4/19 4:25pm chresti:

Robot voices usually make me laugh because they sound wrong, (not real)
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:25pm Schell:

By the way, tomorrow is John Cage's birthday, so HBJC in advance everyone!
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:26pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, there are worse things than an automated voice: A leaf blower when it's a hundred degrees outside.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:28pm Mary Wing:

The dog in the building next to mine that yaps all day while it's owner is at work. That's super disturbing to me; I should record it and play it back in the evening when the owner is home but it would probably drive the dog crazy, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Wed. 9/4/19 4:30pm fred:

A coworker wanted to customize a pair of pepper robots so that they could engage in rap battles. He was denied funding because of a lack of "positive social impact"
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:31pm Franco Twinkie:

Have any of you ever heard Shut Up Little Man? I would not be happy if I had neighbors like that.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:34pm david w:

Does fred mean "rapper robots" but spellcheck jumped on it? Or is this a thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 4:34pm coelacanth∅:

i've had neighbors that ruined significant sized chunks of most days for me. i did record some of it.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:36pm Franco Twinkie:

Ha! I was wondering the same thing, David.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:37pm Mary Wing:

Pepper robots are a thing, now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Wed. 9/4/19 4:37pm fred:

Pepper is a kind of robot: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 4:37pm coelacanth∅:

and yeah leaf blowers don't even sound good. it's just unpleasant noise doing an almost-always useless task.
at least most lawn mowers' sounds have some substance. (yes i'm serious)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 4:39pm coelacanth∅:

i had to tell the new groundskeepers at my sister's house not to blow the grass clippings around after mowing.
what a stupid concept.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:41pm Franco Twinkie:

Pepper Robots are made by SoftBank. I worked on a SoftBank TV commercial with Cameron Diaz. She is not a robot, but she is very tall.
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:41pm david w:

I'd like to have a pepper blower, and a lawn, and a tree... alas...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 4:42pm coelacanth∅:

i like this about the pepper robot: "available as a research and educational robot for schools, colleges and universities to teach programming and conduct research into human-robot interactions."
that's like having an instruction manual to teach you how to use the instruction manual.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Wed. 9/4/19 4:42pm steveo:

sorry so late; sounding great

Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:46pm Franco Twinkie:

Have any of you ever seen the Gumby cartoon called Robot Rumpus? Gumpy just want some help with the yard work, so he enlists the robots, who tear up his yard and wreck the house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/4/19 4:46pm coelacanth∅:

is Cameron Diaz as cool as i have the impression she is? (which is cool)
Avatar Wed. 9/4/19 4:47pm Franco Twinkie:

Cameron is to cool for words.

fred it reminds me of the commonly prescribed drug for asthma several decades ago, theophilin (sp) which relieved the symptoms but adversely affected magnesium absorbtion - increasing the magnesium deficiency that probably resulted in the asthma in the first place. the tablets also had yellow dye in them, a well-known asthma attack trigger.
