Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 3:13pm JakeGould:

Logging into say, of all of the recent William Berger tributes, this already sounds like he never left the place. Also, for those who did not know about it there is a tribute LP on Bandcamp from February 2017 that was pretty heartfelt when it was released, even more so know that he’s passed away: “‘Rise William Rise’ is a compilation for the benefit of William (Wm. to his close friends) Berger, longtime WFMU DJ (host of My Castle of Quiet) and proprietor of Prison Tatt Records. Wm. suffered some serious health issues in late 2016. Wm. has been a huge supporter of underground music for decades, indeed his show has been a nexus of music, from the New York area to the rest of the world.

The idea for this comp came about spontaneously a few days after we heard the news about Wm.'s health, and within a few weeks it was complete.”

And I mean, “this show” when I say tributes. Thanks Scott!

Wm had to be among my earlier FMU addictions. Was he on as far back as '97? ... After the gateway drug of Tony Coulter, it was just a fast-growing blur of rabbit-hole goodness.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 4:33pm Cecile:

aren't they on there already?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 4:34pm Parq:

Gee, I can't even guess how long it's been since I've heard "The Sound of Worms" on FMU. If we disqualify the times I heard it on Hova's and Belinda's show, we're probably talking early 80s.
  Mon. 9/18/17 4:34pm JakeGould:

“Repo Man” is great. But–as Scott said last week–“They Live!” did not age well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 4:34pm Matt from Springfield:

I agree They Live is a masterpiece, and still quite relevant today! While it's not as wildly popular as other Carpenter films, it seems to have the broadest fanbase, of horror/sci-fi/political thriller/satire leaning viewers who can all get behind They Live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 4:36pm Matt from Springfield:

@Parq: I've learned the song from WFMU, and I've only been listening since '09 - perhaps you were just away from the speaker when it's been playing recently.

Avatar    Mon. 9/18/17 4:37pm Chris from DC:

@Steve Repo Man and Escape from New York (for some extra Harry Dean Stanton) should be top 100.
Avatar Mon. 9/18/17 4:37pm geezerette:

Stev, I agree completely. Two of my favorite films. "They Live" is also funny while being angry. It's a product of the Reagan / Thatcher era, which makes it extremely relevant.
(I LOVE you people!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 9/18/17 4:37pm steve:

ive seen They Live half a dozen times, most recently 1-2 years ago, and i don't get the response that its not aged well... feel like everything silly and fun about it i would have loved as much and for the same reasons if id seen it in the 80s.

I still stand by They Live, strong beginning middle and end (with of course some dull moments in between - most films will have those).

Dang, hit "post" instead of "edit". Let's try it again:

Well, really, "I know you are but what am I" has been a major right wing strategy for some time now. Feminists are Nazis. Democrats Photoshop lying images of popular GOP figures. Obama's victory is the result of election fraud. Liberals are motivated solely by hate and mistrust. And so forth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 9/18/17 4:59pm Michael 98145:

@Parq, and don't forget EVERY public protest is really funded by nefarious sources.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 9/18/17 4:59pm Andrew Waterloo:

It's the authoritarian mentality. It's never really a question of what is, but a question of who is in control. If you don't like the reality, just assume the wrong people are in control.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 5:00pm Parq:

Right. Left wing activism is always funded by George Soros (or whoever) and populated by hired fill-ins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 9/18/17 5:00pm chris:

work calls. :( thanks, Scott! see youses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 5:00pm Matt from Springfield:

@Michael: I'm still waiting for my George Soros check :( - has anyone else received theirs? Is there some customer service email he has for missing protest payments??
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 5:01pm Matt from Springfield:

Have a good day, youse Chris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 9/18/17 5:01pm Andrew Waterloo:

Ironically, the AstroTurfers in the nice bus are still inclined to make fun of the other side for having a not-so-nice bus and home made signs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 9/18/17 5:01pm Glenn L:

Love that Xpressway 7" comp! Played it constantly when it first was released!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 5:02pm Parq:

They key isn't just accusing the left of excesses. It's accusing the left of *exactly* the excesses that keep the right in power.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/18/17 5:02pm Matt from Springfield:

Maybe if those people smoked *real* grass, instead of AstroTurf, they could be more amiable - that turf has got to be toxic when lit...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 9/18/17 5:03pm Michael 98145:
