Writing in from my new office. In this new non-cavelike space, it's like I'm listening to a totally 'nother radio show.
Avatar    Wed. 8/9/17 3:04pm Irwin:

Will explain the alternatives first mic break.
Avatar    Wed. 8/9/17 3:06pm Sem Chumbo:

Hi, Irwin, Chusidians, and the like-minded.

Loved Memoirs of an Amnesiac. Funny guy even hopped up on, what was it, chloral hydrate? Thanks for that memory, IC.
Avatar    Wed. 8/9/17 3:07pm Irwin:

That's where the quote originates. Currently reading.

Hoffman's Antique Barn...you must be confusing this with Sun Ra's house in Philly...

Irwin has an iron will. When it comes to alkyhol, he's like Stalin.

When I purchased the new Bran Flakes, I was temporarily stumped after payment when I went to download it and saw "Help Me." I thought, no, I don't want help, I want to download! Oh.... right! LOL.
  Wed. 8/9/17 3:25pm Laura L:

AP--did you change jobs or trade in the cave for a better space?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 8/9/17 3:31pm Alison Porchnik:

Both - same building, same floor. Different office, boss, work. Less vernal and interesting view but more natural light.

Avatar    Wed. 8/9/17 3:52pm The Oscar:

@thatpatsmith I was just about to say, if you'd put a gun to my head and asked me who did this song, I'd have probably said the Zombies. Knew the song from Nuggets, but never knew who it was-- great stuff.
  Wed. 8/9/17 3:53pm Laura L:

Thanks for finding a less-known and pea-pickin'-culiar tune with Glen Campbell.
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 3:55pm upsetter5001:

If you like that Sagittarius cut The first Millennium LP is also pretty great too. No Glen Campbell (RIP) on it.

I think my favorite oddities to come out of the Campbell/Usher/Boettcher axis are the "Mr. Gasser" albums they made for (with?) Big Daddy Roth.

hi there. 'toobz' is my word of the day, i think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 8/9/17 4:14pm Michael 98145:

tubes?! of course; remember going to the hardware or drugstore and testing them on the device?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 8/9/17 4:15pm Itzall Ablurr:

Dear jan, yes. My father-in-law operated a TV repair shop in NJ for decades and the place was full of tubes of all makes. I still have a box of them just because I think they're cool looking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 8/9/17 4:18pm Michael 98145:

{ heh, "the behind side of new york city" }
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 8/9/17 4:19pm Jeff:

@jan et al: Why yes, I'm listening to Irwin and Shep right now through a gizmo which uses 6BZ7 triodes in its voltage-amplification stage.

Interestingly, these are being used for audio-frequency amplification even though they were apparently originally designed for RF.
  Wed. 8/9/17 4:20pm middlebun:

10:15-11:00, after the news, on WOR 710

This Shepard stuff is great! Thanx Irwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 8/9/17 4:22pm Jeff:

Instead of saying toobz, though, I'm charmed by the name preferred by our chums across the Atlantic:

"thermionic valves."

It actually describes what they do really well.

@jeff- Listening through Sonos... radio reception of WFMU was always so noisy in Manhattan. What a boon internet broadcast is for hearing WFMU- here in it's natural FM
range and well outside and at any time, too! @itzall Ablurr- wish that we could take a field trip to the TV repair store. Those were wonderful places- long gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 4:30pm Parq:

The hamster one is one of the best Shep stories I've ever heard, and that's going some.
Avatar    Wed. 8/9/17 4:31pm Irwin:

One more Shep -- and it's about RADIO (not tubes). Great one, with cheap sound effects.
Avatar    Wed. 8/9/17 4:32pm Irwin:

Shep never had much of a prop budget.

Jan, I concur. I always loved going to his shop with all of the arcane tools and technology.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 4:35pm Parq:

Anybody else have or heard this album? I borrowed it from a friend. One great army-era story, and a lot of small bits, some good and some not so much.

One of my one-night-stand insta-bands c.1979 was Goddamn Tractor. We played a party, made it through an improvised tune drawing lyrics (in French) from Sartre's autobiography, Les Mots, then proceeded to our cover of "Motorcade," midway through which the cops arrived.
