Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 12:12pm Meghan:

Avatar    Thu. 5/11/17 12:13pm KP:

it's Sweet Thursday with Meghan at the mic
Avatar Thu. 5/11/17 12:16pm Doug Schulkind:

Meghan is batting second in the order on Thursdays. She has to hit for high average while taking a lot of pitches so Amanda can steal 2nd base.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 12:18pm Meghan:

hehehe.... I forgot my Red Sox Organ music today to go with this play by play! Damn!
Avatar Thu. 5/11/17 12:21pm βrian:

@Doug: Ok now. Can you translate that into a cricket analogy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 12:22pm Meghan:

hahaha... that would take DAYS to do since that is how long a single game lasts!
Avatar Thu. 5/11/17 12:23pm Doug Schulkind:

BATTING ORDER

The order in which a side bats is usually determined solely by the abilities of the batsmen. A typical side composition will be 6 specialist batsmen, a wicket-keeper, and 4 specialist bowlers.

Two of the batsmen will be specialist openers. They have experience and the skills required to bat when the ball is brand new and tends to swing and bounce more. This is a demanding task, as it generally gets easier to bat as the ball gets older. These openers will bat at positions 1 and 2 in the order, beginning the innings together. They will not necessarily be the best batsmen in the side, in terms of absolute skill, only those most experienced at opening.

In baseball, the best hitter in the team will usually bat at number 4 in the order, the "clean up" hitter position. In cricket, the best batsman in the side usually bats at number 3 in the order, the "first drop" position after the openers.
Positions 3 to 6 will be filled by the specialist batsmen, usually in order of batting ability, from best to poorest. Thus the number 3 batsman is usually the best batsman in the side.

Position 7 will be the wicket-keeper, who is usually a poorer batsmen than the specialist batsmen, and better than the bowlers. Historically, wicket-keepers were sometimes poorer batsmen than some or even all the bowlers, and batted correspondingly lower in the order. In modern times, wicket-keepers are selected partially on batting ability as well, so wicket-keepers who are poor batsmen are rare. Sometimes wicket-keepers can even be better at batting than some of the specialist batsmen - in such cases the wicket-keeper usually still bats below the batsmen, to give him a significant time to rest after performing the most demanding job in the field during the previous innings.

Positions 8 to 11 will be the bowlers, again in order from best to poorest batting ability.
Avatar Thu. 5/11/17 12:24pm Doug Schulkind:

That makes you a "specialist," Meghan. But we already knew that.
Avatar Thu. 5/11/17 12:24pm βrian:

Can you please elaborate?
(Well, maybe just don't ...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 12:24pm Meghan:

Ohhhh I'm Special!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 5/11/17 12:29pm doctorjazz:

Nice, Hi Amanda and Underwater Dwellers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 12:30pm annie:

is doug waxing cricket again?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 12:31pm Adrian in London:

Hmm, if I were of a suspicious nature I'd wager that Doug may have had help from the internet for that cricketing post. Otherwise he may have been, and get ready for this… stumped. Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 5/11/17 12:35pm doctorjazz:

(Oops, I'm an hour late, hi Meghan...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 12:36pm Meghan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:11pm Meghan:

hahaha... just a impromptu theme that happened out of songs I happened to pull!
Avatar    Thu. 5/11/17 1:14pm KP:

Thinking of a sweet one i think called "My Little Sister" but can find anything close so i probably made it up/
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 5/11/17 1:15pm doctorjazz:

Mug Museum is a great album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:17pm Parq:

What a classic sound the Le Bon has. Like it's Spring '82 again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:21pm Ike:

Hmmm, I feel like boiling rotten moldy garbage on fire in quicksand on the surface of the sun. I wonder if it's just pollen or if I have a real cold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 5/11/17 1:23pm doctorjazz:

The old Sounds D'Afrique, v1 and v2, are really great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:26pm Meghan:

Oh Ike, today is really bad for me. I've been pretty good for this Spring, but today I'm hating it!
Avatar    Thu. 5/11/17 1:26pm KP:

Ok, i checked. I was thinking of the Kinks' "Two Sisters." The lyrics are from sweet but Ray's voice is pleasantly deceiving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:27pm Ike:

Me too! I've barely had any trouble until now. I wonder if it could really just be allergies! I'm not very hungry and I don't even want a cup of tea, so that's a bad sign. Usually that means I'm actually sick and not just allergies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:28pm coelacanth∅:

Hey i got back just on time! (though your opening tracks were straight up Stellar as well)
...hi Meghan and bubblers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:29pm Parq:

Are we planning a Sister theme? If so, I nominate Kate Jacobs doing "A Sister". It was once a Greasy Kid Stuff favorite, and also one of mine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:30pm Parq:

Ike, your avatar still makes me laugh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:32pm Meghan:

Hello Coelacanth!

Ike, that sounds like sick... the weather changes haven't helped with that!

No Parq... no themes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:34pm Parq:

"No theme, Parq." <rimshot>
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:34pm Meghan:

wah wah.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:34pm coelacanth∅:

hahaha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 5/11/17 1:43pm doctorjazz:

Is this really a 45? Sounds like a 33 played at 45.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:44pm Meghan:

It really is a 45!

Oh Doug.... you aren't supposed to open up that Pandora's box for me...... (wheeeeeeeeee! Jumps right in!)
Avatar Thu. 5/11/17 1:48pm Doug Schulkind:

The British Library is an amazing resource. For years and years, you had to have university credentials in the UK to access their audio files. But that door has come down!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:48pm coelacanth∅:

Doug's an expert of the sillyphone too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 5/11/17 1:49pm Meghan:
