Artist Track Album Label Comments Special

Set 1: an hour of psych, from the beautiful to the garage. (Listen to this set: Real)
International Harvester  Skordetider (Harvest Times) (track 14: ended by -0:30) (Listen: Real)   Sov Gott Rose-Marie  Silence  Full sound, highly ambient and resonant, builds gradually but remains easy. Originally recorded in Sweden in 1968, remastered 2001.  ***
Overhang Party  Feedback (track 1) (Listen: Real)   Overhang Party Live  Overhang Party  Slow, reverberant, just a little feedback, warm but with a little bit of an edge, big.
Subarachnoid Space  Square Wheels (track 2: ended -4:45) (Listen: Real)   Endless Renovation  Relapse  Easy/heavy psych rock, with sort of a pile driver feel.  ***
Overhang Party  Winter Lovers (track 5) (Listen: Real)   Overhang Party Live  Overhang Party  Heavier, more active, easy+.
Iggy Pop  Heavy Liquid (track 7) (Listen: Real)   Michigan Palace 10/6/73  Bomp  Heavy post-1960s psych garage rock.  ***
Acid Mothers Temple  In E (track 2) (Listen: Real)   Live In Japan  Acid Mothers Temple  Steadily in a hurry and propulsive, glorious noise, reminiscent of Love Sculpture and Glenn Branca.
Mummies  Jezebel (track 17) (Listen: Real)   Never Been Caught  Telstar  Prime, urgent garage psych rock.  ***

Mic break between Sets 1 & 2. Background music for it: (Listen to this set: Real)
Les Chakachas  Love is like a Violin (track 4)   Arriba!  RCA International  Phat, sentimental sound. Feels like it's the slow song at the record hop.

Set 2: the old radio show portion of the evening. (Listen to this set: Real)
Gunsmoke  Carmen   from May 31, 1952    The 4th official episode of its 9 year, 492 episode run. Gunsmoke is probably the best written of all the major old time radio series, and "Carmen" is the first truly well written episode. In this episode: Marshall Dillon, zen master sheriff of the West, prevents a hot headed Army major from installing marshal law in Dodge - the natives might not take too kindly to it. And, as for local prostitute Connie: does she help Dillon or doesn't she?

Mic break between Sets 2 & 3. Background music for it: (Listen to this set: Real)
Les Chakachas  Love is like a Violin (track 4)   Arriba!  RCA International  Phat, sentimental sound. Feels like it's the slow song at the record hop.

Set 3: guitar, from heavy and dark to the light of Hendrix. (Listen to this set: Real)
Sunn O)))  A Shaving Of The Horn That Speared You (track 2) (Listen: Real)   White 1  Southern Lord  Starts off like a Japanese Irish folk song undergirded by heavy, dark & slow monotonal chords. And then it stays heavy, dark & slow.
Tia Carrera  (no title) (Listen: Real)   Live At Room 710  (unknown)  Heavy, long, blues influenced rock.
Jimi Hendrix  Drivin' South (side 2, track 1) (Listen: Real)   Radio One  Ryko  Recorded live at the BBC in 1967. Sustained, up-tempo blues rock with a light feel.  ***

Mic break between Sets 3 & 4. Background music for it: (Listen to this set: Real)
Les Chakachas  Love is like a Violin (track 4)   Arriba!  RCA International  Phat, sentimental sound. Feels like it's the slow song at the record hop.

Set 4: mostly quiet, mostly guitar. (Listen to this set: Real)
Enrique Granados  Dedicatoria (track 1: ended at +1:36) (Listen: Real)   Julian Bream Plays Granados & Albeniz  RCA Red Seal  Beautiful, sweet, sentimental.  ***
Henry Purcell  Prelude - Suite en La Mineur (track 5) (Listen: Real)   Musick's Hand-Maid  Astree Auvidis  Quietly luminous, an airy instrumental.
Toumani Diabate  Kita Kaira (track 3) (Listen: Real)   New Ancient Strings  Hannibal  He plays the kora - not guitar. It fits in really nicely with what preceeds it. Beautiful, spacious.  ***
John Fahey  Summertime (track 3) (Listen: Real)   Red Cross  Revenant
Oscar Aleman  Stardust (CD #1, track 25) (Listen: Real)   Swing Guitar Masterpieces: 1938 - 1957  Acoustic Disc  A ballad - his version of the classic.

Mic break between Sets 4 & 5. Background music for it: (Listen to this set: Real)
Les Chakachas  Love is like a Violin (track 4)   Arriba!  RCA International  Phat, sentimental sound. Feels like it's the slow song at the record hop.
