What goes on in Utilmate Painting’s mind? I think that I am falling down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 9:06pm Uncle Michael:

Mr. Reynolds, are you fond of the Needy Sons?

Oh, Hi Evan...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 9:08pm Uncle Michael:

My favorite John Stewart song is Lost Her in the Sun (a.k.a. Lobster in the Sun).
Avatar Wed. 11/30/16 9:08pm Figgsrock:

@Uncle Michael, indeed I am.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 9:12pm Uncle Michael:

Me too. I think Joe Belock is leading the way playing their record on FMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 9:26pm Uncle Michael:

You Skype with aplomb, Evan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 9:28pm efd:

i had a knot the size of aplomb in my stomach hoping that would work!
  Wed. 11/30/16 9:30pm Julie M Brooklyn:

That's weird. I was just thinking of The The, and now here's a cover. Was it because of Ultimate Painting? Is that why I like Ultimate Painting?
  Wed. 11/30/16 9:30pm P:

Oh No!!! I'm against Uncertain Smile being covered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 9:32pm efd:

Hi Julie! I can't even explain how my own mind works, don't ask me to get started with yours! :)

P, your objection is overruled!

Hello Numan.
  Wed. 11/30/16 9:36pm Julie M Brooklyn:

P, I agree it's a weird cover, I first heard Bowie vocally, and then.... Peter Frampton???? But it's a great song.
Evan, you are already started, for sure. And now here you go with Gary Numan. Good night for me to tune in. Is it too much to ask for..... you know who. Everybody knows how good Cale is for you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 9:37pm Uncle Michael:

Hey, EFD...MLB got the CBA done!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:13pm efd:

@Fuzzy, "It Never Rains..." was my thought as well (hence my Albert Hammond comment earlier)
  Wed. 11/30/16 10:15pm ScottC:

Whoa! Whoa! Hurt my neck!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:16pm efd:

Chapman & Chinn were great, but I still haven't forgiven Mike Chapman for ruining Nervus Rex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:16pm Uncle Michael:

I hate myself for thinking I was too cool for AC/DC when I was young. I was such a dumbass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:18pm Scraps:

but i love "The God Sheila". When I wrote some essays about individual song, that Nervus Rex song was the first one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:20pm Scraps:

and i never saw Nervus Rex, so i didn't know the ruination Chapman put them on. i know people said that, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:20pm efd:

oh, their songs were still great but I hated the way their LP turned out after having seen them live a bunch of times. And I'm a Chapman/Chinn fan, too, I just didn't think it worked in that case.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:20pm Scraps:

i gotcha
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:20pm efd:

sorry if that came across as snobby ("I saw them when...!", not my intent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:21pm Scraps:

the guy who wrote that wrote me and he din't like Chapman either. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:21pm Uncle Michael:

I saw a Canadian band in about '81 or '82 called Boys Brigade. They killed. Then Geddy Lee produced their album...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/30/16 10:25pm JakeGould:

Wow! This Douglas Holmquist track is killer. douglasholmquist.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:25pm Scraps:

Ha! i just googled "nervus rex" and "the god sheila", and my essay (ten years ago) is 4th.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:26pm efd:

ohh i am going to read that later! So wait, Shaun Brighton wrote to you after you wrote the essay?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:27pm Scraps:

or 5th, dpending on whether you count the youtube link
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:27pm Scraps:

yep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:27pm Scraps:

i was surprised!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/30/16 10:28pm JakeGould:

And I humbly admit that EFD posted that Douglas Holmquist link anyway, so hey…
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:28pm Uncle Michael:

Jerome Brailey drumming on Dear Prudence, mebbe?
  Wed. 11/30/16 10:29pm Redbranch:

I am so in love with the bass line on this Dear Prudence cover! Play it again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:31pm Scraps:

that compilation, at least the ones FMU people played, is pretty great
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:33pm Scraps:

Oh, I forgot: Lauren Agnelli also wrote me. Gosh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:36pm efd:

wow, that's awesome Scraps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:37pm coelacanth:

is there a disc 2 to that "black america sings the beatles" comp? - because "disc 1" does not have Wilson Pickett's hey jude, but i can't find a "disc 2".
...they wouldn't consider not putting it on there, would they?!
  Wed. 11/30/16 10:38pm Julie M Brooklyn:

Now I hear The The again with this Dark Blue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:39pm efd:

nope, no disc 2. Maybe there will be a part 2 release later... and/or maybe that wasn't licenseable.
  Wed. 11/30/16 10:39pm Bilbo:

This Dark Blue somewhat reminiscent of Suede.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:39pm efd:

yes, I was just thinking that too Julie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:40pm Uncle Michael:

That comp concept has been done numerous times before. The Wilson Picket was on this one: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:42pm coelacanth:

amazon says:"disc 1" and the label site says:"side 1", so -maybe there's another volume coming.
...i'm hugely into the beatles (though much more discerning than i once was) and that "hey jude" is easily better than the original - or any other.
that's a big thing for me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:45pm coelacanth:

ah i see, Uncle M. well at least the new one includes the exquisite musical stylings of Sir George Harrison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:46pm Uncle Michael:

Ace even did it before, themselves...sans George: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:48pm coelacanth:

damned if i don't want to possess every one of em.
  Wed. 11/30/16 10:50pm Stevel:

What a set! Tuff Darts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:50pm Scraps:

i've heard enough hey jude (though i'm also, like coelanthe, hugely into the beatles), but i admire the looooooooooooong coda. if it wasn't the beatles, the record company would have cut three minutes out of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:52pm Scraps:

(i mean, before releasing it as a single)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:55pm Scraps:

tuff darts is sometimes labeled a new wave band, for the new york late 70s they came out of. but they are strictly a power pop band to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:55pm Gaylord Fields:

@Scraps: As a young Beatlemaniac, I didn't really get "Hey Jude" and considered it one of my least favorite Fab Four songs. I've since matured enough to savor its majesty. (And because I avoided it strenuously when I was younger, it hasn't worn out its welcome now that I love it.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:55pm coelacanth:

hey jude is one of the few songs that i always skip when i listen to a beatles album; but still i cannot deny that it was a pop masterpiece at the time.
  Wed. 11/30/16 10:56pm P:

I'm thinking of a whole show with The The inspired tunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:57pm Scraps:

i never skip Hey Jude if it's played, but i never search it out. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:57pm coelacanth:

well yeah, if i hadn't already heard it 2-3 hundred X i might let it play now and then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/30/16 10:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I like the sound of Magic Trick there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 10:59pm Uncle Michael:

I go sleep now. Rock on, Funketeers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:01pm coelacanth:

i rarely seek out any particular beatles song. it's more like "i need therapy. i'm going to listen to lots of beatles for a few days." and i nearly always listen to albums - usually skipping several of the Paul songs and all of the Ringo songs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:05pm Scraps:

you probably like several paul songs less that i. i really like "hello goodbye", for instance. nobody like song that as much as i do....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:08pm Scraps:

maybe that was what you were saying when you said I liked Light and you like Dark more. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:09pm Scraps:

i like this Powell band. somewhat like Spoon, only higher vocals
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:13pm coelacanth:

that's what i meant, Scraps! when i was little i LOVED that song and magical mystery tour - with all those melodic pop songs, was my favorite album. i still usually let hello goodbye play. it's a Great song! - but i don't often play that album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/30/16 11:15pm Fuzzy:

i'll stop
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:29pm efd:

*buzzer sound* sorry, "Draggin' The Line" is Tommy James, not Roe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:30pm coelacanth:

sorry Scraps - 'got distracted! yeah, TVC15 is Great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/30/16 11:30pm Fuzzy:

I'm going to go with "Rebel Rebel" for forced Bowie favorite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:31pm coelacanth:

Oh! you're right! that's why i like it so much! (no offense to Tommy Roe)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:31pm Gaylord Fields:

@Fuzzy: "Dizzy" is second to my top pick, "It's Now Winter's Day" for me. "Jam Up, Jelly Tight" would be my third place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:32pm Scraps:

Tommy James should be in the r&r hall of fame (if it matters, which it don't)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/30/16 11:33pm Fuzzy:

@Gaylord: "Sweet Pea" is my second TR pick. "Hanky Panky" is my favorite TJ because it's fun and easy to play on the guitar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:34pm coelacanth:

i guess i know very little Tommy Roe...but i'll go with jam up jelly tight. (out of maybe 4-5 TR songs i know?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:34pm efd:

"Jam Up, Jelly Tight" is a very strong pick.
  Wed. 11/30/16 11:35pm Bilbo:

This Shana Falana track is freakin' rad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:36pm coelacanth:

it would've been much easier if draggin' the line was Tommy Roe. the Tommy James catalogue has some gems in my world..."sweet cherry wine" being way up there.

Tommy Roe and Tommy James (and David Bowie, for that matter) made really good records in a variety of styles, with no drop in quality.

- and Tommy James composed "tighter, tighter", though the alive n kickin' version is the definitive one.

oh man.... scott miller.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/30/16 11:47pm Gaylord Fields:

@coelacanth: Tommy Roe's "It's Now Winter's Day" and "Phantasy" LP's are lite-psych pop with sunshine-ish leanings. "Winter's Day" is the more cohesive statement and a good place to start for non-bubblegum Roe.

that first ultimate painting song -- central park blues -- strikes a like a sweeter velvet's 'what goes on' in all the best possible ways, i mean. in other words, i've showed up hours and hours later to add what jakegould nailed in real time. fantastic song, fantastic (really) show, efd.
