Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Backing up a bit, Poco's Crazy Love might fit on the Yacht Rock satellite music channel. Listened to it a while on a shared ride recently. Driver says at least 50% of tracks have Michael McDonald on back-up or lead. He mentioned the SCTV bit where Moranis as McDonald runs in and out of studio to sing a back-up line at exactly the necessary moment. Minutes later, we heard the song from that bit on the channel, Christopher Cross Ride Like the Wind. Given the period favored by the channel, I knew Ambrosia would also show up shortly and they did.

A friend went to the Millennium park show and liked it.

Bassist is Brian Torff, who long played with Shearing and, later, Laurence Hobgood, in a sweet Evans-esque piano trio, Union.

...good ol'-fashioned analog percussive maintenance...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/5/16 2:23pm Brian in UK:

Uncle, Liking this set.
  Fri. 8/5/16 2:23pm Dean:

Thanks, Rev. I totally forgot that Greg Shaw co-produced that album. His BOMP record store was so cool.
Avatar Fri. 8/5/16 2:25pm Matt in Nebraska:

This Dusty tune has been going through my head all week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/5/16 2:27pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Brian.

MATT! How weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/5/16 2:29pm Brian in UK:

I think that I might still have the Zigzag magazine mentioned with the interview of the Groovies. Jeez. Zigzag was a top mag from the late 60s.
Avatar Fri. 8/5/16 2:30pm chromaphone:

I'll be listening to this box set as I drive to the beach this weekend :)
Avatar Fri. 8/5/16 2:33pm Jeff Golick:

I initially mis-read Etta Jones as Etta James. Looking at the LP cover at discogs, it's cool to see Roy Haynes on drums...and liners by LeRoy [sic] Jones.
Avatar    Fri. 8/5/16 2:33pm Guido from Cologne:

I have to leave on time in order to attent a concert!
Loved the show!
CU!

Bye Guido! Thanks!
Avatar Fri. 8/5/16 2:38pm chromaphone:

this pretty much sounds like surf music but it hadn't been invented yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/5/16 2:38pm melinda:

Sounds like a Bollywood number.
  Fri. 8/5/16 2:38pm Dean:

Legend has it Henry VIII wrote the tune, no?
Avatar Fri. 8/5/16 2:39pm βrian:

I was afraid for a second that that might be Hot Rod Lincoln.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/5/16 2:42pm Brian in UK:

Well the kitchen beckons me. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
Avatar Fri. 8/5/16 2:42pm geezerette:

Avatar Fri. 8/5/16 2:53pm βrian:

See you later, Uncle M. Yo to your Topeka turtles.
  Fri. 8/5/16 2:57pm Dean:

Speaking of Topeka, in recent days both James Fallows and Charles Pierce have had nice things to say about developments at the State Capitol, and Kansas has a new album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/5/16 2:58pm Uncle Michael:

Things are looking up.
