Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

  Fri. 7/29/16 12:25pm Marie:

I fell in love with the music from the Third Man and went out and found a single of two songs from the original soundtrack. now I no longer have a turntable... so, does that make my record "toothless"?...

Cool, Doc. I just had a gig drop in my lap for tomorrow night

Michael when you play 10" records are you playing actual 10" records? (as opposed to simply stating how it was originally released...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 12:32pm Uncle Michael:

Almost always I'm simply giving original release information.
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 12:33pm Lane Gray:

I wish y'all had a lower quality stream available: at 3G I spend a lot of time buffering
  Fri. 7/29/16 12:35pm Marie:

@ coelacanth: that could be some bad karma... :} I WILL get another turntable and release it from its msery. I guess you could also say it is mute and inert
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/29/16 12:35pm coelacanth:

well, that's appreciated by your fellow music geeks.
... i have a bunch or 10 inchers but many of them are 78rpm, which my turntable doesn't spin at.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 12:35pm Uncle Michael:

lane, I can mention that to TPTB
  Fri. 7/29/16 12:36pm Marie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 12:36pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 12:40pm doctorjazz:

Great Dylan cover!
@Lane-they used to have a lower bit rate option at one point, if I remember correctly. I generally find the pop up player is the smoothest connection, don't have problems with it (though the 128 I think is a bit better sounding). My $0.02
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/29/16 12:41pm coelacanth:

Marie, yes - or "dormant".
- i wonder if it's even more painful for my records that rarely get played - looking across the room at that turntable longingly, seeing other records get cleaned and spun...
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 12:41pm Lane Gray:

I'm still on Toll the Bells, but don't want to catch up and miss the cool stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/29/16 12:42pm mauri:

Lane your isp seems to be crap.
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 12:43pm Lane Gray:

I hadn't thought of the popup player. I just used tunein
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 12:45pm Uncle Michael:

I think Lane is mobile. I think the limits of 3G will make all methods equal. The FMU app might be worth trying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 12:48pm doctorjazz:

I use the app on my HTC (Android) phone, works well in my neck of the woods.
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 12:50pm Lane Gray:

I am mobile, and switched to a far cheaper plan that gives me 5G/month at 4G, then throttles me to 3G but unlimited total. I'll grab the app when I get home
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 12:50pm Jeff Golick:

The app does have mono and stereo stream options, one of which might travel a little lighter for 3G connex.
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 12:54pm listener james from westwood:

We're ripe for 90s nostalgia, so I can't imagine a Soul Asylum tour is too far off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 12:54pm Uncle Michael:

There's only a mono option for the main WFMU stream.
  Fri. 7/29/16 12:57pm Dean:

Really, you should have segued from "Rainbow" to "Stairway to Heaven."
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 12:58pm Lane Gray:

Today's safety tip: if you live near a state line, give trucks room and be cautious near the line: many of us STILL have to manually write down the state line mileage; this is a distraction. Just watched a guy nearly sideswipe a car on the Poplar Street Bridge)(St. Louis Mo)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 12:58pm Uncle Michael:

The spirit didn't move me.
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 12:59pm Jeff Golick:

In the app, @UM, the main stream pretty plainly sez "WFMU Stereo," with another option for mono. It may be that the GTDR stream is mono only, though.

Good tip, @Lane. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 12:59pm Uncle Michael:

GDTR stream is stereo only, I'm afraid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 1:01pm Uncle Michael:

the wookie hollow?
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 1:01pm Jeff Golick:

(I should probably specify that I'm looking at the iOS app.)
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 1:02pm Lane Gray:

I'd love a 48 or 64K stereo. The road noise eats a lot of the highs I'd lose anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 1:06pm Uncle Michael:

I'll mention it Lane. It might be possible to have such a streaming URL that could be manually added to various apps by the end user.
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 1:08pm Lane Gray:

I already have a few custom URLs in my TuneIn. I've got no problem with that
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 1:09pm Uncle Michael:

I'll ask about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 1:09pm doctorjazz:

Staple Singers?!!!??!! Sound like the Coasters!
  Fri. 7/29/16 1:09pm Dean:

Spirit didn't move Led Zeppelin, either.
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 1:09pm burke:

Always wondered why their name is "Staples" but they're the "Staple Singers." Is it tiresome to pronounce an extra s?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/29/16 1:10pm drr:

Is this the John Byrd Band featuring Alex Chilton??
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 1:11pm Uncle Michael:

ABC Mystery Movies, that is...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 1:47pm Uncle Michael:

For some reason, probably legal, "ABC" does not appear in the title.
Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 1:54pm Lane Gray:

It never has. I'd assumed Henry never put it in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 1:56pm Uncle Michael:

  Fri. 7/29/16 2:05pm Dean:

Good timing! I'm now here, having taken a break to assist my daughter in the powder room. (It's "Take Your Daughter to Work for the Second Day in a Row Day.")

This Dolly is great. Seems only fair that LZ should cover "Nine to Five."
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:06pm Uncle Michael:

  Fri. 7/29/16 2:06pm Dean:

Avatar Fri. 7/29/16 2:09pm ndbob:

really nice version Dolly!
  Fri. 7/29/16 2:10pm Dean:

Zappa's cover of this tune is priceless. Page's solo is relegated to the horn section.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:10pm doctorjazz:

This Memphis Minnie track is one of the best tracks EVER!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:11pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:12pm Brian in UK:

Hello Uncle. Been listening from a distance. Freeform as ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:12pm Uncle Michael:

I think Zappa was taking the mickey out of a song that got too big for it's britches. I don't think he cared about it musically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:14pm Uncle Michael:

Hey Brian! I just have no taste!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:16pm Brian in UK:

What no Rory Gallagher?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:18pm Uncle Michael:

Not today!
  Fri. 7/29/16 2:19pm Dean:

Agree 97%. I think Zappa cared enough about it musically to show off his and his band's chops. The random punctuation with dog barking is a feature I suspect Page and Plant regret not having considered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:19pm Brian in UK:

This version just does not have the dynamism of Love's version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/29/16 2:19pm Uncle Michael:

Hah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/29/16 2:20pm drr:
