Sounds great! Love the tones coming from the piano samples.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 9:14pm Irene Trudel:

Hi tuner fish! Glad you liked the opening number. Seems a popular one with the 'FMU crew here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 9:23pm Cheri Pi:

HEAVY! Heya Irene!!
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 9:24pm Van in DC:

Late. Was watching the men's soccer team. USA! Hi Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 9:27pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Cheri Pi and Van! you're welcome anytime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 9:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thx for the Beautiful, Madam T.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 9:33pm JakeGould:

Hey Irene! Nice pic! Isn’t it great as you walk around modern, “artisanal” Manhattan and stumble across some real, kitschy humanity in a garden of a place not pummeled to the ground to make a luxury glass tower?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 9:37pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Jake! I just snapped it this afternoon as I was dropping off a package on the way home.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 9:40pm Van in DC:

Yes indeed, Shrunken Planet is great. Never can catch it live though.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 9:45pm Van in DC:

Any Fairport-related tributes are at once sad, sad, sad, but welcome when needed. Thanks.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 9:47pm Van in DC:

Sandy might well be one of my 4 "Mt Rushmore" iconic voices of all time, in music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 9:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 9:50pm Irene Trudel:

I have to agree, Van. Sandy was special, and the interplay with her bandmates is stellar.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 9:54pm Van in DC:

Just thought that a pretty good follow up song to this would be "Handsome Cabin Boy" by KaTe. Just sayin; :) (in my world)
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 9:57pm Van in DC:

But, oooh, this works pretty well too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

As a guitarplayer - so much awe for Mastery of fiddle. You think it's stringed like guitar - must be similar. But it's almost the opposite: instead of as much reach as you can get - it's so tiny, you lock your hand in place. No frets of course. & bowing - that takes all the simplicity of guitar right out of the picture...That is some skill.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:02pm Van in DC:

....and this....
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:04pm Van in DC:

I love virtuoso violinists.... Hilary Hahn, Joshua Bell, Sarah Chang, Anna Sophie Mutter, and on and on...I see them live every chance I get. What a treat! Oh, and the Sitar is no cakewalk either. Anoushka Shankar, daughter of Ravi, is awesome.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:05pm Van in DC:

Steeleye Span's new lineup has a pretty decent fiddle player chick, by the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...of course - these are absolute Masters of UK Folk...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:07pm Irene Trudel:

Rev. Rabbit, what a great description. Violinists have fewer strings, and come up with such an interesting collection of sounds/tones to command. I'm a bit in awe of anyone who can master and instrument in general.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:08pm Van in DC:

I do so love this set. So much. Thanks for the mini tribute Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:10pm Irene Trudel:

Gee Van, I haven't kept up with Steeleye Span. I guess Peter Knight isn't with them anymore?
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:12pm Van in DC:

No, he left the band about 3 years ago I think
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:13pm Van in DC:

When I saw them live here in DC area not that long ago, they did do a tribute song to Tim Hart though.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:14pm Van in DC:

Maddy Prior still going STRONG though! Love her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:16pm Irene Trudel:

Nice! I have never seen them live. Gotta hope they do another tour.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:17pm Van in DC:

That was a first for me, seeing them. It was incredible. I couldn't believe they were actually appearing here! Wasn't going to miss it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:17pm northguineahills:

I always get nervous when an FMU dj plays a lot of the same/similar bands/musicians in the same set. 2016 has been a scourge against musicians!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Gosh, thanks for the Dave Swarbrick tribute. Like NGH said, it's been a rough year. It's barely June yet.
  Tue. 6/7/16 10:34pm Mark R:

Cool, I never get to hear your show, but tonight I'm tuned in and loving it, Irene. John White has a beautiful voice, doesn't he?
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:35pm Van in DC:

Marissa is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:36pm melinda:

Good evening Irene & friends.
  Tue. 6/7/16 10:39pm Mark R:

And Marissa Nadler is gonna make me cry--her voice is amazing, and that string arrangement is just perfect.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:42pm Van in DC:

Another wonderful set!
  Tue. 6/7/16 10:42pm Mark R:

Julianna's been getting a lot of FMU love lately...well-deserved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:45pm Irene Trudel:

Yeah, NGH and Ken. It's been rough year for people of our generation passing. But let's celebrate all those who are still with us making great music-- Like Marissa and Julianna. Such lovely voices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:46pm northguineahills:

I've always wanted to hear Julianna Barwick, thanks!
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:51pm Van in DC:

Right on Irene, and there are so many more. One reason I miss Julie not having a regular show anymore is just that reason: She featured so many emerging artists of various genres. I think she did that incredibly well. Still get to here her occasionally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 10:53pm Irene Trudel:

Julie just hosted a fill-in last night for The Frow Show. It's in the archives and I need to catch up too.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:54pm Van in DC:

Ah so that's what I'm listening to in the morning then :)
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 10:56pm Van in DC:

By the way, Kawehi had a brand new Kickstarter to raise $9K for a new project. She reached the goal (and more) in less than 24 hours. Wow.
  Tue. 6/7/16 11:00pm Mark R:

Julianna is at the Bowery Ballroom on June 25th, Irene.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:01pm Van in DC:

And she is here in DC like next week!!
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:03pm Van in DC:

Juliana will be my next concert here in DC. Then Samantha Fish in July
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:04pm Van in DC:

ooooh, and Marissa is here in July too...

Sunday 24 July 2016
Marissa Nadler

Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:05pm Van in DC:

Julianna Barwick 23 upcoming events

Last time in Washington: over 2 years ago
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:07pm Van in DC:

Oh. And Laura Gibson is here in July. I almost forgot. Also at the DC9 club... gonna be a busy Van this Summer
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:12pm Van in DC:

I've never heard this before but it is wonderful
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 11:19pm Irene Trudel:

New release from Metheny, as far as I can tell.
  Tue. 6/7/16 11:19pm subjecttoochange:

Thank you Irene for such an epic show tonight so far!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 11:22pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks, subjecttoochange! I'm enjoying it too.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:25pm Van in DC:

So if Trouble is now taking the Summer off, I hope that doesn't mean no Sharon Van Etten any more on FMU...she is so incredibly wonderful. I think I've gone through "Are We There" about 300 times now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 6/7/16 11:31pm Irene Trudel:

Oh, c'mon Van! Both Jeffrey and I play Sharon. Just not every week.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:32pm Van in DC:

Oh I know :)
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:34pm Van in DC:

Right now, at this point in time, I do believe "I Don't Want to Let You Down" by Sharon is my favorite song, for a while now. It's just... Jagjaguar Epic :)
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:37pm Van in DC:

I do hope Sharon comes back soon from her studies. She had such a tremendous line at the NPR artist appreciation thingy not long ago here in DC: She's studying to psychology (I think) because, as she said, "I need to be certified to deal with you fans"... lol
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:39pm Van in DC:

psychiatry? Something like that
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:45pm Van in DC:

Found it. Watch Sharon Van Etten at NPR's "All Songs Considered" here in DC. I found out about this waaaay too late to get a ticket :(

www.npr.org...
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:53pm Van in DC:

Thanks for a tremendously awesome show, as always, Irene. Have a wonderful week.
Avatar Tue. 6/7/16 11:58pm Van in DC:

I had forgotten that Laura Gibson was also at that NPR thingy lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/8/16 12:00am coelacanth:

Thanks Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/9/16 4:23am Sean in Bristol UK:

Wow, that was one heck of a show, Irene, thank you
