Options October 14, 2015: Son Of The Return Of MAYHEM IN THE PM!

Listen to this show: | Add or read comments

It's my second show of Crunch Time, WFMU's Silent Fundraiser and Mascot Contest, and I've put together a special show to remind you of how awesome WFMU is (not to mention my show in particular! right?!), and hopefully to motivate you to pledge.

Tonight it's the eagerly awaited return of Mayhem In The PM! Yes, it's another three hours of nothing but power-pop, post-punk, new wave and punk records (yes, RECORDS) from 1977ish through 1982, presented in a Top 40 style just like I used to do on WNYU's New Afternoon Show* a long long time ago. You'll hear some of your old favorites and some others that'll become new faves instantly!

Now, because this is a SILENT fundraiser I won't be talking about it much at all during my show which means I'm depending on the written word to convince you to PLEASE PLEDGE! This is the time of year when the money we raised during our 2015 fundraising marathon starts to dry up, and the 2016 marathon is still several long months away, so any help you can offer would be amazing.

If you've already pledged, THANK YOU! Your support is greatly appreciated. If not,
P L E A S E   P L E D G E   N O W !

Stay tuned for more special shows this month, and of course please take a moment to Like The Evan "Funk" Davies Show on Facebook and follow me on Twitter! Thank you.!

  Wed. 10/14/15 11:01pm Jim Allen:

Fun fact: "Invocation" was inspired by a creepy Kenneth Anger short film.
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:02pm tinkle bear:

god, efd. pete shelley, the stranglers. the hot tuna track. and on and on.
dude, you are more on fire than that welsh small-town dude in the kids in the hall sketch.
awesome to behold.
thank you for being on fire!
hope it doesn't hurt too much.

And the hits just keep on coming.
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:14pm Julie M Brooklyn:

Yep. I knew it. I got home late, too late to catch the John Cale song. Maybe there'll be another......
Wed. 10/14/15 11:14pm dave from knoxville:

Love this one too. efd is on FIRE
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:17pm Jim Allen:

Tenpole Tudor would sound great coming out of this...just sayin'! :)
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:22pm cheri:

evan, thanks ever so much for a bang up show!!! have a great week!
Wed. 10/14/15 11:23pm dave from knoxville:

I know this will be hard for you to believe, but going to college in Knoxville Tennessee didn't afford many chances to hear these songs. But I have an advanced degree in Molly Hatchet please God make it stop
Avatar    Wed. 10/14/15 11:24pm JakeGould:

This “Klacto” song’s title sounds like rectal to me. Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 11:24pm efd:

haha, I'll try to push that Molly Hatchet right out of your head, Dave! (Except for "Lady Luck," that song's cool.)

Glad you're enjoying the show cheri and everyone else!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 11:25pm efd:

Julie, damn! I had hoped you might be listening when I played that Cale record. Thanks for pledging nonetheless!
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:26pm Julie M Brooklyn:

My pleasure. Anything to keep Station Dictator Ken at bay.
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:34pm Rev:

Cheri is one of the saddest dudes on here.
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:37pm tinkle bear:

omg, and you even played human league, before i tuned in.
efd, you are my hero!
forever.
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:38pm Jeffy Jazz:

I feel like I just started listening to music! Great show, EFD!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 11:38pm efd:

@tinkle bear, perhaps you'll enjoy the next song from the poor man's human league.
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:41pm Jim Allen:

RICH man's Human League! Anyway, wow the original 7 inch version sounds so much better than the one they re-recorded for their EP with real drums (by Simon Phillips no less!).
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:42pm Julie M Brooklyn:

Pardon my ignorance, but why does this sound so much like Gary Numan?
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:42pm tinkle bear:

efd, as they say, it's like you know me.
(although i don't understand why they don't call it poor-man's Sparks. but whatever.)
Avatar    Wed. 10/14/15 11:43pm JakeGould:

@JulieMBrooklyn: Because Gary Numan was a thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 11:43pm efd:

or poor man's Gary Numan? Julie, I think that was just the sound at the time.
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:43pm Linda Lee:

amazing .. in retrospect .. how much of this stuff sounds alike. but not a problem!
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:46pm Julie M Brooklyn:

Yeah, well, I'm a lightweight, unless it's John Cale or Jonathan Richman. That's not a hint, efd....
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:49pm tinkle bear:

yeah, i dunno.
sparks and human league (+ gang of four) were somehow what struck me as politically pertinent at the time.
but yeah, i guess it's the eye of the beholder.
yay, music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 10/14/15 11:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Why does a lot of the material sound the same? It's kind of like the Kinks' album title: Give the People What They Want.
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:51pm MrMikeyRiggsNYC:

Ah, APB at the Roxy. It's a blur.
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:52pm V Priceless:

Ahh...Scotland's funky finest!
  Wed. 10/14/15 11:56pm Linda Lee:

really just lovely music here. i can almost face the snow coming this weekend now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 10/14/15 11:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for the neat time-travel show, EFD. Between the throw-downs, disco celebrations, tributes to old friends, etc. throughout the year, I need to make up an EFD calendar to keep track of it all. Pledge for all that hard work, folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 11:58pm efd:

snow?! Yikes, I don't think I'm ready for that yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 11:59pm efd:

Thank you all for the enthusiastic comments! I really appreciate it - it's great to see you're having as much fun listening to these records as I am playing them!
  Thu. 10/15/15 12:00am Linda Lee:

not to worry, efd. none for you yet. i'm upstate about 100 miles.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 10/15/15 12:00am Ken From Hyde Park:

I didn't notice snow in the forecast, but it showed a couple nights that will go below freezing. Even moreso up in the hills where Linda resides.

Love the Mood Six, different mix to the original and LP versions? Extra verse and castanets.
Did you know the Department S's Is Vic There title is taken from a Monty Python phone-in show sketch on Matching Tie album. Ofcourse you knew that efd. Great show.
