in a lot of the (this) country if you mention "pathmark" they say something like "what the hell kinda name is that?"

JakeGould:

I grew up with a “Speedway” drugs across the street from a “Speedway” supermarket. Damn I miss those places.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am
coelacanth:

we had an A&P. we considered it the big grocery store. now that building houses a modest-sized "convenient store".
- and i spent summers at the end of long island; there it was Bohack. i think that's long-gone.
  2:20am
JakeGould:

What about old-school Waldbaum’s? I mean I remember seeing rows of cans with Julia Waldbaum’s face all over it. Now the kids have C-Town and Key Food and Trader Joes and Whole Foods and feh! But Bohack is quite a reference.
Avatar 2:21am
Wm.:

King's, in Queens. ...and on the left coast it's Albertson's. I liked Waldbaum's; the one I used to live near had excellent produce.
  2:23am
JakeGould:

Yeah, Speedway was across the street from me, but my dad liked going a few blocks more to get some Waldbaum’s goods.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am
coelacanth:

damn. waldbaum's sounds slightly familiar, but i don't remember ever seeing one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am
coelacanth:

i'm trying to recall the big one in ashville n.c. in the 80s. 'started with a W; like "wiggles" or something...and they laughed at me when i referenced pathmark!
Avatar 2:27am
Wm.:

Piggly Wiggly? ...Is my show really less interesting than talking about old supermarket chains? Jk ...
  2:29am
JakeGould:

One of my proudest childhood moments was scoring a joy buzzer for 25 cents out of a vending machine. Man, that was like winning the 8-year-old lottery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am
coelacanth:

Ha! - and i think that was it!

...and it's a memory lane,i guess! i'm imagining being a child exploring bohack's,listening to this! (not quite)
Avatar 2:31am
Wm.:

How about scoring with a chick BEHIND the supermarket? No?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am

(this is awesome,by the way)

I'm just joshing. I grew up near a great Woolworth's in Orange. The whole basement was toys! ...and they had a froazen Coke machine....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am
coelacanth:

yeah. behind the pathmark,on the railroad tracks. (after pathmark replaced A&P's)
  2:39am
Schlockmaster:

Morning Wm.,
long time no speak!
Been travelling around Sicily the past month. Back home I ve seen two new movies where I expected my resumee to be completely the other way round:
TERMINATOR GENESYS is a total ball of a film, I never had a dull moment watching it and there was nothing to bicker about. From reviews I read I expected a kind if "remake" of T1, but those scenes, where we already expect to know whats coming, where handled in funny and intelligent ways. The flic is a true continuation of the franchise, much recommended.
SOUTHPAW on the other hand is dumb, emptional drivel, from creators who I thought of better, nuff said.
Hope you re well and all, best, Felix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am
coelacanth:

i cannot say what my most interesting memory is of A&P. it may offend someone!
but i do remember when my sister & i were around 8 & 9 we walked to the A&P (which was punishable) and found out that the manager that was always so nice to us when we were with our mom was actually a total dick- and just wanted to get into my mother's polyester slacks.
  2:43am
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Sorry to hear you learned about some of humanity that way.

My son and I enjoyed Terminator: Genesys, too. A good Terminator movie keeps going full-throttle, and this one does. We liked Ant-Man quite a bit too, as Hollywood Summer Blockbusters go anyway. I watch the weirder shit on my own hehe...Cheers, Felix!
  2:51am

I rewatched the first 2 Terminator films this summer. That’s all I need. Feh.
