Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 12:45pm Uncle Michael:

I'll check that out.

Charlie, I've had very good luck with Windows 10. The only computer in the studio that had the hardware for the upgrade is the box doing the streaming.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 12:46pm Charlie:

Love this record, as much as the original version, which is an old fave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 12:46pm Uncle Michael:

I don't think my studio computers would be eligible for 10; they still run XP.
  Fri. 9/11/15 12:51pm Dean:

I have this paperback book from the mid-'70s, a collection of LP reviews that had appeared in Rolling Stone. It's hella fun reading the contemporary reviews of Yes, Carla Bley, Al Green, Santana, and so forth. Some are by Lester Bangs, a couple by Richard Meltzer, many by Bob Palmer. A few nights ago I read reviews of a couple Donny Hathaway records by I forget whom. Mr. Whom did not like Donny. Really weird.
  Fri. 9/11/15 12:51pm msclvr:

My summer goes to 9/21 and begins 5/1. I hear ya' on the equinox, Uncle!
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 12:53pm ndbob:

Wow! Ron Nagle!
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 12:54pm Jeff Golick:

@Dean: pretty sure I have that same paperback -- red cover? They revised it a little later, took out jazz (which became a separate volume), and turned the cover blue. I enjoy finding changes between the volumes. For example, the red version loved the Doors. They were downgraded significantly in the blue version, much to my delighted surprise.
Fri. 9/11/15 12:57pm Alex In Transit:

Got an adapter in Seymour, Indiana, so now listening through the car stereo. Approaching Louisville.
  Fri. 9/11/15 12:58pm Dean:

@Jeff G.: Mine's the blue cover. IIRC, Meltzer reviews at least one Doors record, maybe two. He is a huge Doors fan, which is where our tastes diverge considerably. (He's also a huge Germs fan. We're in complete agreement there.)

I had the impression my blue-covered pbk was a second volume, rather than a second edition, but I may very well be wrong about that.
  Fri. 9/11/15 12:59pm Dean:

Also, my blue covered volume definitely includes jazz.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 1:00pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

  Fri. 9/11/15 1:13pm Dean:

@Parq: Maybe that's the Stones' tune I'm thinking of...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 1:13pm Mike East:

hmm...wonderwall music...don't have that one. I have to remedy that.
  Fri. 9/11/15 1:14pm Dean:

@Mike East: Wonderwall Music is a weird mix of fun, as is Electronic Sound, which I once had, but gave up. Still have WM, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 1:15pm Parq:

Hi Unkie. Gonna try to write a paper for school while listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 1:28pm Uncle Michael:

What's the paper about?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 1:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

For all of Beatlemania, seems I never see 'How I Won the War' - hear or see 'In the Family Way' nor 'Wonderwall' - & I'd like to @ least hear Sir Macca's Fireman stuff again & see what I think...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 1:29pm Uncle Michael:

I've never seen Wonderwall.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 1:30pm Jeff Golick:

@Dean: I think maybe we're talking two different books. The red/blue I have are explicitly "record guides," with stars assigned to various items in an artist's discog, by various RS writers. Sounds like what you're describing is a collection of actual reviews that appeared in the pages of RS.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 1:31pm chromaphone:

Philosophies/structure of art education programs. I'm in school to become an art teacher even though I have more experience teaching music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 1:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...not that they're great films - but Beatles.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 1:32pm ndbob:

I've seen Wonderwall - on a bootleg tape long ago - new saw or heard "in the Family Way"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 1:32pm Uncle Michael:

Good luck with the paper.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 1:42pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Where are the Starlite Wranglers from? Not USA I'm thinking. Good version, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 1:42pm Mike East:

spotty internet making listening impossible. so lame.
@johnk77 - be advised...who knows how long this will go on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 1:43pm Uncle Michael:

They're from Japan, Lizzie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 1:44pm Uncle Michael:

Sorry, Mike. FMU app on your phone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 1:45pm Mike East:

yeah, UM, but I got an alert that I am in danger of going over my data limit for this billing cycle :(
If only I had got a smart phone when they were doing infinite plans I'd be grandfathered in.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 1:46pm chromaphone:

Baby woke up and spoiled my plans...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 1:47pm Lewis:

damn but Lee could spin a tale of woe...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

No shit, eh Lewis?
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 1:53pm Dominick:

yes yes yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 1:53pm Uncle Michael:

yass yass yass!
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 1:56pm listener james from westwood:

OK, almost dropped a chandelier globe laughing at the Thompson–Lovejoy connection.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 1:58pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

"Baby woke up and spoiled my plans..." would be a great C&W tale of woe line.
  Fri. 9/11/15 1:59pm johnk77:

@mikeeast
are u at work til 6?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:02pm Uncle Michael:

Write it, Lizzie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 2:03pm Mike East:

@jk77- nope...I'm jumping ship at 4 today. btw - thanks for helpin' me out last night...I needed it for sure.
Internet is back...fingers crossed.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 2:08pm ndbob:

@Mike I was grandfathered in with an infinite plan - but it ended when I started a new contract
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:12pm Uncle Michael:

Sprint has never stopped offering unlimited data plans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 2:21pm Webhamster Henry:

The Joseph Spence tribute "Out on the Rolling Sea" might be worth a listen, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:23pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Henry. Will dig for that.
  Fri. 9/11/15 2:25pm V Priceless:

Scofflaws are local to here, ie, Long Island.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:26pm Uncle Michael:

Ever seen 'em?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 2:26pm Mike East:

@ndbob - same thing happened to my wife. when I got a smartphone we had to change the contract, so no more infinity.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 2:27pm Wilson K:

This song is telling me what I need to hear. Ambient synesthesia is real.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:30pm Uncle Michael:

Are you seeing the scent of your tea with milk, Wilson?
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 2:31pm Wilson K:

I just zoned out on that for a full minute. You can kinda see the shadow of the small table in the macro if you don't blink. So yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:35pm Uncle Michael:

I went looking to see who had covered this Christine McVie song and I couldn't find *any* covers of it.

If Al Lewis built Herman, Al Lewis can build a goddamn car.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 2:41pm Parq:

I'll confess I still prefer the Addams Family, but Michael Shelley was not wrong when he said that The Munsters was much more rock and roll.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 2:42pm listener james from westwood:

Parq, I'll back that too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 2:43pm Lewis:

The Pogues to this quite nicely as well...
  Fri. 9/11/15 2:43pm V Priceless:

@!Uncle M: Yes! Quite the party band, as you might imagine. Pretty sure they're still at it, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 2:44pm mauri:

waltziiiing mauriziiooooo
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 2:44pm Parq:

James, did Grandpa build Herman? Wow, a variation on wanting his daughter to make new friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:45pm Uncle Michael:

Indeed Lewis.
Cool, VP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 2:47pm Lewis:

I think I once had a minor playlist that went from the Poges version into Burroughs' Prayer for Thanksgiving. Excellent choice!
  Fri. 9/11/15 2:49pm mrmucho:

hi UM, dig the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:50pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks mrmucho!
  Fri. 9/11/15 2:52pm msclvr:

This is one of my absolute favorite songs. I love the bass and the melody and the vocals so much, and the seniments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:52pm doctorjazz:

One of the first albums I ever had, "Along Comes the Association", beautiful stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:52pm Uncle Michael:

I love it too.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 2:54pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Love this song, so sweet and romantic.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 2:54pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks for the lovely accompaniment to my (non-)writing, Uncle Michael. And happy 5776 or thereabouts.
  Fri. 9/11/15 2:54pm V Priceless:

Yay Association! Thanks for a cool show, Uncle M!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 2:54pm Parq:

"The Association's Greatest Hits" was my first music LP. (Before that, I'd bought a few comedy titles. Explains a lot, doesn't it?)
  Fri. 9/11/15 2:54pm Santos L Halper:

Was always a sucker for this Assn., keys esp. Great Drummer Day, thanks UM (and Doug)!
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 2:55pm Jeff Golick:

It does suggest an origin story for your avatar, @Parq.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 2:55pm listener james from westwood:

This Association cut is heard waaay less often in the NYC area with CBS 101.1 now playing stuff from the 70s thru the early 90s. No dis whatsoever to that period, but I do miss what used to constitute oldies on that channel. Hrmph.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:55pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Jeff. Thanks V. Thanks Santos.

Thanks everyone!
  Fri. 9/11/15 2:55pm Dean:

Back from a meeting and, wow, Widowmaker! Heard them live when they opened for ELO.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 2:59pm Uncle Michael:

I had a good time, friends. Thanks for coming back each week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/11/15 3:00pm Lewis:

Cheers UM - really nice to listen this week rather than mu usual in and out and about attention.
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 3:00pm ndbob:

excellent show UM!
Avatar Fri. 9/11/15 3:00pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks muchly, UM!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/11/15 3:04pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks...till next we gather...
Avatar Sun. 9/13/15 1:08pm Flash Strap:

Listened to this at work on Friday... just rearranging an insanely cluttered antique store and doin the hinky dink. Way weirder music than we usually listen to but I got there first and set the player to WFMU instead of fucking pandora. The bossman wasn't sure at first but a couple hours in he turned to me and said "this is such a weird variety of music. The way this music is, with all kinds of different stuff, that's how I want this store to look!" Really cracked me up.

Anyway, show made my workin' day. Thanks Uncle
