![]() By the way Joe, Anna just asked me if that was you in the intro doing the happy happy boing boing... I regret not telling her yes :-) |
![]() |
![]() hello joe and marce, pierre, ken all! happy thursday! |
![]() |
![]() @Marcel: Tell Anna that it is most definitely me. Hi, everyone! |
![]() |
![]() meant marcel. too much night. |

![]() Morning Common! (I figured, heh) |

Guys, has anybody seen The Residents live, and if yes, is it a good show ? |
![]() |
Thu. 9/3/15 9:12am
pierre:
They play in Paris with "Shadowland" the last part of a trilogy that I havent heard much about, but I love the band, but the tickets are also pretty expensive, so I was hoping some of you might have some insights (?) |
![]() whats up joe | |
![]() |
![]() Hey, Glenn! More up than down, and that's a good thing. You? |
![]() |
![]() pierre, my friend went to a residents show in philly a few years ago and said it was fantastic! i wanna see the documentary about them. |
![]() |
![]() Hey Joe. What's cookin'? |
![]() |
![]() Pierre: I saw a fairly recent Residents show (WOW Tour) and really for only the fact that they don't get up my way often, I figured it might be my last chance to see them without hitting the road. I have to say I didn't find it that great, myself. I don't really dig where their live show is coming from - the Randy thing. I just don't get it. Sorry to say - I'm a huge Rez fan and have been for many decades. |
![]() |
![]() Hugoes there |
![]() |
![]() @pierre, I've only seen them once, on the Demons Dance Alone tour (2002?). Very, uhh.... theatrical. Almost Broadway, a little corny. but a very immersive experience; maybe worth it because I love them too. Well, "Him", at this point. I wouldn't spend a lotta $$ on it tho. |
![]() |
![]() the bassist on this Montenegro track - could it be Carol Kaye? |
![]() |
![]() oh and morning :) |
![]() |
Thu. 9/3/15 9:24am
pierre:
Thank you all for your advice ! They are playing the documentary, so there is that already. And, I don't know, would 40$ represent a lot of money for it ? (regarding that it's more 80 since i would invite my girlfriend ) |
![]() |
![]() @sphere: Possible! It was recorded in Hollywood at RCA. |
![]() |
![]() - ah Django... |
![]() |
Thu. 9/3/15 9:25am
pierre:
(oh and @Scott, I haven't given up on listening to your show as often as I can) |
![]() |
![]() perfect for iced coffee... or beer. this |
![]() |
![]() Holaaaaa. I have to say both time I saw the Residents it was magical. But there was no "Randy". Just music. The first time it was with Snakefinger. Sigh. I don't think I need to see them again. |
![]() |
![]() ...sounded like Django w/ an electric pickup ; I'd like to know more details about his precise relation to 'electric' guitar... |
![]() |
![]() like if they were going steady or cousins or something? |
![]() |
![]() Helllllo Joe and Alll!!! |
![]() |
![]() I'm with you, Joe. Ugh. I call it "bathtub weather" |
![]() |
![]() drummer when I saw them was Toby Dammit, so there's your Residents/Stooges link. No Randy yet either; yeah he's pretty irritating. Just see the movie (I haven't yet). (and Thank you @Pierre!) |
![]() |
![]() I agree, Joe. I really look forward to those eight or nine days of fall weather we get every year in between baking and freezing. |

The Residents can probably gig for all eternity, as they can use fill-ins easily
![]() |
![]() Aw, they're from the UK. I was hoping they were from Scandinavia or the Finnish enclaves in the US. |
![]() |
Thu. 9/3/15 9:37am

Perfect, merci for all your insights Friends ! @Scott : the movie seems pretty interesting and mysterious, i'll tell you how it was. |

![]() |
![]() From his smash hit album "Just a Poika" |
![]() |
![]() @Brian: There are about 3 good songs on it. You did the right thing. |
![]() |
![]() Is that the one with his version of Tightrope on it? |
![]() |
![]() no, that's the show much go on. It's a Tightrope rip. |

![]() @Cecile: Nope. |
![]() |
![]() - love Daltrey's 'Just a Boy', for which I expect to be shot down around here... |

Re; Holzman That's what I miss nowadays, record labels led by someone with a strong vision.

"Helpless" was on "Deja Vu" but most CSN&Y tracks are solo tracks, really, aren't they?
![]() |
![]() Mick Houghton put together Forever Changing that is how he got the book gig. Interesting interviews with Holzman. His old man kept telling him he would never add up to anything. It took THe Doors to hit No.1 for him to believe that he knew which way was up. |
Thu. 9/3/15 10:35am
cheri:
hi joe, I got to tell you this next segment is really cool "the single file" i really enjoy it! thanks joe!
![]() |
![]() @Brian in UK: If you haven't read it, Jac Holzman's autobiography is also really great. |
![]() |
![]() Brian, I wasn't making a jab at your reading ability. I was agreeing with you on Jac Holzman. He's pretty damn cool. |
![]() |
![]() i think henry gross has some splainin' to do. if he didn't 'borrow' that for shannon you can shoot me. |
![]() |
![]() JACKIE. |
![]() |
![]() Joe, yeah, Follow the Music is good. I think a lot of Elektra artists were more popular here than over your way. Certainly true of Love & Ackles. Cecile, cool I was following up your previous comment. |
![]() |
![]() now that i finally have the "new" schedule memorized, a new one is ont he horizon.. will you remain Joe? hi everyone! |
![]() |
![]() Jackie Wilson!! |
![]() |
![]() You should play just call me joe by sinead. |
![]() |
![]() I also liked the fact he was honest about his relationship with Love. He put out Forever Changes, and thought it was great art, but also told Arthur Lee that the difference between them and the Doors is that they could write three minute pop songs. |
![]() |
![]() @Sean: I don't have any Sinead singles, unfortunately. |
![]() |
![]() Turns out Arthur Lee could write some great accessible pop songs (Black Beauty and Real to Reel) but by then the world wasn't listening. :( |
![]() |
![]() I think Irwin has a funny Arthur Lee story, but I don't remember it. |
![]() |
![]() shorter Lonesome Rhodes: "I'm not a virgin." |
![]() |
![]() - for me, that was a big part of the appeal of 'Forever Chagnes' : a completely Classic essential 60s album that hadn't yet been played out for decades ! |
Thu. 9/3/15 10:46am
cheri:
joe, great single file picks
![]() |
![]() Cecile this is what Holzman said on hearing of Arthur's demise. He had given me, Elektra, and music so much, and that he had chosen to live his life so carelessly was the ultimte sadness. |
![]() |
![]() That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Wow. |
![]() |
![]() @Rev Forever Changes is still a wonderment. Hardly any electric apart from bass and a few guitar breaks. |
![]() |
![]() Very different sound from Jimmy Bryant here. |
![]() |
![]() yep. And so intricate. And paranoid. And beautiful. |
![]() |
![]() ...even Roky Erickson hasn't gone around firing off guns in LA...altho' Dave Crosby's autobiog. is - extreme... |

![]() |
![]() I'm with Annie on this one. Something about it. |
![]() |
![]() ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, she still is. Causing some controversy in the GLBT community. |

![]() |
![]() Dang: upload.wikimedia.org... |
![]() |
![]() She is very conflicted internally about her bisexuality, it reads to me. |
![]() |
![]() and I guess for people who followed her for years, about 10 years ago she stopped giving interviews at all to the gay indie press. |
