Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

![]() Hello Brian! |
![]() |
![]() Jake- here 'tis! : www.pbase.com... Hi Brian and All |
![]() |
![]() @coelacanth: Oh yeah! I remember seeing slightly more beat up versions of those trucks around Brooklyn in the 1970s, but same basic shape. |
![]() |
![]() holy heck, pulcinella! |
![]() |
![]() also: greetings, meatbeans. |
![]() |
![]() well,it's a testimonial to how much more resilient-and repairable things were made back then. people didn't just throw stuff out. they made them last. |
![]() |
![]() @RTD: have symptoms of tiki withdrawal abated by now? |

I thought Vito Ricci was Bill Cosby for a minute. Like that Christmas record Joe Belock played last year.
![]() |
![]() hey artists, I'm getting back in the cartooning game. Derwent is OK for fancy drawing, but I'm looking for a workhorse wood pencil to do penciling that will erase nicely. Any ideas? |
![]() |
![]() I still hate cassettes. Great stuff on them, but ew. |
![]() |
![]() I think cassettes should be a stepping stone. |

3P0:
I have Cassettes 50 Years old that still work fine~/Will Cd's /Mp3s?
![]() |
![]() I'll be dead by then, or at least not worried about it. |
Tue. 7/21/15 3:34pm
Mark:
Collector's World just ran a long article about cassette culture and traders and companies that specialized in them. Fascinating stuff.
![]() |
![]() i looove that Jojo track, ive listened to it like 30 times since Swagmas came last week |
![]() |
![]() wtf drum machine does the snare drum in that song. its so grimy |
![]() |
![]() I didn't trade, but I knew traders, and own a number of good cassettes both homebrew and commercial. But I just never enjoyed the whole rewinding thing. Hard to skip through them too. |
Tue. 7/21/15 3:44pm
3P0:
From a historical/replayable/aspect I hope all is not lost to modern technology.
![]() |
![]() In 50 years it will all be neural implants anyway. |
![]() |
![]() im not a big cassette guy but part of the appeal to me is the inconvenience of skipping around, being forced to sit there and listen... the ease of having all i want all the time (i.e. neurotically clicking around my iTunes library and anything-you-want-in-30-seconds private torrent sites) ultimately has a kind of numbing effect |
![]() |
![]() sooner than that, i'd guess, Polyus... |

ScienceFriction:
It's here $ now. welcome to the past as present & future!
![]() |
![]() @steve: I find now it's more about the having access to it all - in itself: a billion channels, & it's about seeing what's on - not watching anything! My attention span has deffo changed. It's all about streams & podcasts being constantly updated & which I'll never ever catch up w/... |
![]() |
![]() (...altho' the streams & 'casts I favor feature a good %age of 'Retro'...) |
![]() |
![]() @coelacanth: “people didn't just throw stuff out. they made them last.” Post war industrialization will do that to a manufacturing infrastructure. same reason why tons of Japanese toys from the 1950s to 1970s are all made with amazing, intricate quality. You have a whole infrastructure built around creating precision tools for war but there is no war so what can you do? |
![]() |
![]() ha, yeah lately ive been concerned about my attention span too |
![]() |
![]() Stop paying attention to your attention span, but instead focus on the attention girth. |
![]() |
![]() ...like - we jokingly call it the 'British Invasion' - but all those London managers were in fact products of the fallen Empire... |
![]() |
![]() great to come in on the fall hello! |
Tue. 7/21/15 4:06pm
Marquee Smith:
A great/drunken leader who will fire his complete band -New Fall fantastic.
![]() |
![]() nadrag = pants, according to the goog |
![]() |
![]() hi, common! |
![]() |
![]() how goes it, chris? |
![]() |
![]() @RevRabbitNov63: So basically, if an empire is defeated their residual art will be amazing, right? |
![]() |
![]() people used to complain about us 80s kids being wasteful, but we were like depression kids compared to a lot of people today, greenmarketing notwithstanding. |
![]() |
![]() @Cecile: Depends on which part of the 1980s. The mid-to-later part of the 1980s Reaganomics was making the U.S. really a piggish mess. Earlier in the 1980s it was just like the 1970s in many ways. |

Chris from DC:
yay, Gordons |
![]() |
![]() @Jake: hm - dunno. I just mean the UK biz guys had some organizing skills & ambition. People like the Beatles themselves were Post-War in other ways... |
![]() |
![]() ...far as I'm concerned, it was certainly a drag to leave home & hit the real world just as Reagan's 80s began. I'm right in there w/ the Grungemeisters, age-wise... |
![]() |
![]() its going ok, common... i shouldn't complain... all my faculties are with me until i want them not to be... you? |
![]() |
![]() i really like this Henry Blacker track. |
![]() |
![]() @chris: still kinda shitty, but still here. and all of these tunes are helping! |
![]() |
![]() Well, in a lot of places, but where I was, the indie/DIY/punk crowd took pride in being pretty frugal, mostly out of necessity, but they never really went crazy when they got money. |

![]() |
![]() hola, SheWolf. Just got my copy of What We Do In The Shadows today! |
![]() |
![]() The bizness model of making things well, so you'll like me & do biz w/ me - deffo went the way of Trickle Down economics. The rich are rich & they are not hiring & do not care about you. It's a nice old WWII idea of things that you could only belive in if you haven't paid attention to reality for several decades. Make a buck as fast as you can - screw workers, screw the environment, screw consumers, screw the country. We don't know the product or the customer, & we don't care - it's owned by a larger co. which is owned by an even larger one - we are biznessmen & lawyers & we are useless. Music is just the canary in the coalmine for illustrating this. It's yer food & shoes & housing & job as well...It only *looks* the same as it used to be on the surface. |

Yayness! I missed the myriad of opportunities to see the J Dog face to face earlier this year when WWDITS was in NYC. I'm hoping he'll be back in few weeks for the release of his next film. |
![]() |
![]() Here's crossing my fingers for you. Maybe. hahahha |
![]() |
![]() I really thought when the Walker was doing "indigenous" films that Boy would have been screened with a Q&A from Taika Waititi. Nope. |

Tue. 7/21/15 5:01pm
SheWolf:
I have a dislike/like for him. I did dislike him somewhat but then met him and it was hard to keep that up. |
![]() |
![]() I guess in interviews, J-Dog first felt the same way. Speaking of hoes: twitter.com... |
![]() |
Tue. 7/21/15 5:04pm

![]() |
Tue. 7/21/15 5:37pm
Brian Turner:
No, But Al did email me when I was at ATP when I asked if I could record his performance to take back to WFMU (I took The Ex, Country Teasers, a few others with me). He said he loved FMU, and especially Scharpling, but the logistics of his audio set up and engineering for live shows would mean that it would be next to impossible to get it sounding good for radio. But still... |
![]() |
![]() that is so cool, Brian. |
![]() |
Tue. 7/21/15 5:40pm
Brian Turner:
I belive he also did a blurb for the Scharpling Numero box that just came out. |
![]() |
![]() Did you enjoy the show Saturday, Brian? I was tempted to see them again that night at Palisades but didn't make it happen. |
![]() |
Tue. 7/21/15 5:45pm
Brian Turner:
Wolf Eyes! Yeah! Any chance to see what patches John Olson has added to his sleeveless denim jacket is always good enough reason to get out of the house. |
![]() |
![]() Haha. I hadn't seen them with the new member yet, so it was not what I was expecting but I did enjoy it. |
![]() |
