Hey there Carmichael, pss, Carl.

I'm cooking Portuguese/Greek fusion for supper. Got any Portuguese/Greek Fusion music to go with it?
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 9:11pm Dave Mandl:

That's a tall order.

Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 9:12pm Dave Mandl:

@P-90: That echo may go on forever.
  Sun. 5/3/15 9:13pm P-90:

@pss: what's the "Portugese/Greek fusion" menu? Can't drop one like that and not make me curious...

Hey Dave, good evening.
  Sun. 5/3/15 9:22pm Carmichael:

Apparently there is a Portuguese fusion band called Dead Combo. And thank Christ, they don't play Dead music.

Hiya George, RRN63.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 9:29pm pacific standard simon:

Sorry, P-90, checking the food. It's roasted potatoes and linguica in tomato sauce with kalamata olives and sheep cheese. Both cultures have some version of it.
  Sun. 5/3/15 9:31pm trs:

'Wo ist .. !?' Fun to declare/lament emphatically when you cannot bleeping find the gleeping thing you're looking for.
Hi. Good listening again.
  Sun. 5/3/15 9:33pm trs:

Hey and look! There's https to be found, here. Fantastic!
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 9:34pm Dave Mandl:

Hey trs. Good to see a fellow https fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 9:35pm Cubicle Carl:

This tune can almost be Portuguese/Greek, if you squint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 9:37pm George of Troy:

Dave, I didn't have a chance to comment on the fantastic ESP Records special show last week. Really enjoyed it.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 9:38pm Dave Mandl:

@George: Thanks!
  Sun. 5/3/15 9:39pm P-90:

The ESP special WAS first-rate. One of those really worthy things you probably couldn't hope to hear anywhere else.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 9:41pm Dave Mandl:

@P-90: Thanks. It got a really good response, which Steve should probably get credit for.
  Sun. 5/3/15 9:43pm Carmichael:

Hey, I have some Elliot Sharp guitar stuff. Nice ...

Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 9:58pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, rk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:08pm George of Troy:

Dave, there is a recently-published book that I guess attempts to interpret Kew. Rhone. I haven't picked it up yet, but I'm very tempted.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 10:09pm Dave Mandl:

Ha. Probably worth checking out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:16pm pacific standard simon:

Speaking of "excited strings", it is possible to buy a "personal massager" that can be controlled by the beat and rhythm of your mp3 player.
  Sun. 5/3/15 10:16pm Barr Bee:

The truth is in the >2%. WoE is my show!
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 10:18pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: If I knew I probably wouldn't admit it. (But I have no idea.)
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 10:18pm Dave Mandl:

@Barr: Merci beaucoup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:21pm pacific standard simon:

That was a statement, not a question, Dave. They really exist. But I was looking for links to music by people who make music using "personal massagers" to caress the strings of instruments -- sort of a John Cage/Godley & Creme kind of thing. No luck yet.
  Sun. 5/3/15 10:23pm Carmichael:

Who is playing trumpet here? There is a bet involved.
  Sun. 5/3/15 10:23pm trs:

It'd be the same as the robot-tech that attempts to play music. More algorithm than rhythm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...more of an "O"-bow than an e-bow...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:23pm Andrew Waterloo:

I've only seen personal massagers used on mics and pick-ups
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:24pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Carmichael, I was thinking the same thing.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 10:24pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: Oops, sorry. I read that as "Is it possible?" Too much multitasking going on here.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 10:24pm Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: Lee Morgan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:25pm Andrew Waterloo:

From the Internet: "Confirmation" matches Smith with altoist Lou Donaldson, tenor saxophonist Tina Brooks, trumpeter Lee Morgan, guitarist Kenny Burrell, and drummer Art Blakey, while a 15-minute rendition of "What Is This Thing Called Love" and a 20-minute "Cherokee" have Morgan, Burrell, Blakey, trombonist Curtis Fuller, and George Coleman on alto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ah, here we go! The Barr Brothers -- "our pedal steel player just discovered how to play the steel with a vibrator". HA!

  Sun. 5/3/15 10:26pm Carmichael:

Jimmy Smith lived literally 4 miles up the road from me. Lots of waving hello.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 10:27pm Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: Wow.
  Sun. 5/3/15 10:27pm Carmichael:

Thanks everyone. I am definitely buying the next round ..,
  Sun. 5/3/15 10:29pm Carmichael:

The guy had a barn full of organs. Like 20 Hammond b3s.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 10:30pm Billy Jam:

loving the show Dave Mandl - thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:30pm pacific standard simon:

You probably need that many for parts.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 10:31pm Dave Mandl:

@Billy: Hey! Thanks, Billy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 10:33pm pacific standard simon:

There's a family heirloom foot-pump organ in my bedroom. I don't think it works. Looks cool, though.
  Sun. 5/3/15 11:02pm trs:

The long 'e' gives some kinda cachet, eh?
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 11:04pm Dave Mandl:

@trs: Faux British pronunciation.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 11:06pm JakeGould:

Pinky in the air when you say that, yo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 5/3/15 11:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Magneto & the Brittanium Man...
  Sun. 5/3/15 11:09pm trs:

'Magnetic tape' - with the short 'e' - is so base, these days, by comparison.
Avatar Sun. 5/3/15 11:17pm Dave Mandl:

But pronunciation often changes when you add prefixes and suffixes.
  Sun. 5/3/15 11:19pm greyhoos:

"Are you a man?...Are you a fish?" Isn't that from that old Peter Weir aussie film "The Last Wave"?
  Sun. 5/3/15 11:27pm PMD:

Ever see '32 short films about Glenn Gould' ? Great movie as I recall
  Sun. 5/3/15 11:32pm greyhoos:

@ PMD: As I recall, too. But it's been about 2 decades. More recently, was mystified by some of the audio "travelogues" & such that he for the CBC. "The Idea of North," "The Search for Petula Clark," et al.
  Sun. 5/3/15 11:34pm trs:

Yes It's great. And 'The Red Violin' is another excellent one. Same director I think?
  Mon. 5/4/15 12:00am trs:

Sounded like something fell on you, Dave.
Great listening.
Avatar Mon. 5/4/15 12:01am Dave Mandl:

Night, all. Have a great week.
