According to the Wikipedia entry on disco "The sound is enriched with solo lines and harmony parts played by a variety of orchestral instruments, such as harp, violin, viola, cello, trumpet, saxophone, trombone, clarinet, flugelhorn, French horn, tuba, English horn..." No concrete examples, sadly!

@VP Yes indeed, and it's a real reason for Gongfreaks to rejoice. Somehow it sounds totally 2014, but totally Gong at the same time. Really funny, poignant, thought-provoking and utterly cosmic. Definitely the best Gong LP since the Radio Gnome trilogy. Last time i checked, the whole thing was listenable on YouTube. Check it out.

@JMcG It's called "Knights of the Road", on the second (unfinished, but then finished recently) Fotheringay LP. The Sandy Denny stuff on that album is typically sublime, but her husband Trevor's songs are weak faux-country.

BTW: What was that Zappa song about a trucker "bustin' his ass to drive a load of string beans to Utah"? Not really into FZ but that might be my favourite American trucker song.
