Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Fri. 8/22/14 12:31pm northguineahills:

typical ngh story: my friend's band opened for the Clean last night, so he put me on the list. There were three bands playing, and I got there right before his band went on. I thought they were the first band, so, afterwards, I went out to get a quick bite. I came back and my friend said, "where were you? the Clean just finished." Son of a!!!

It still was a fun night, as I got to have beersies w/ all of the involved bands.

Avatar Fri. 8/22/14 1:31pm Jeff Golick:

Ok, please forgive my record geekery coming up here...
Avatar Fri. 8/22/14 1:32pm Jeff Golick:

Re Cotillion: Cotillion was a subsidiary label of Atlantic operating from 1968 to 1986. Its first significant artist was Brook Benton, who had his biggest hit in 1970 with Rainy Night In Georgia and released the triple-LP Woodstock soundtrack album that summer. The label soon after signed progressive rock legends Emerson Lake & Palmer.

By the mid-Seventies, the label began signing the likes of funk bands Mass Production and Slave, P-Funk splinter groups the Brides Of Funkenstein and the Horny Horns, the Temptations (briefly) and became the home of Sister Sledge, who had been moved from sister label Atco in 1978.

The last active artists were Johnny Gill, Stacy Lattisaw, Slave and Sister Sledge, who were moved to the parent Atlantic label after it was deactivated. Lattisaw moved to Motown and Gill ultimately joined New Edition.

Still used on certain reissues (i.e. the Woodstock soundtrack album and the Velvet Underground's Loaded album).

Thanks, JG!
Avatar    Fri. 8/22/14 1:34pm Brian in UK:

Avatar    Fri. 8/22/14 1:36pm Brian in UK:

Denying what, that a lack of manpower was the cause of the mis-rolled tarp?
Avatar Fri. 8/22/14 2:38pm Doug Schulkind:

No the fact that the are using a diminished ground crew in order to avoid workers passing the 30-hour threshold and thus triggering Obamacare payouts.

OK, two distinct issues. And I'm with you on the labor practice.

Can someone write a script that stars all versions of this song thruout the FMU playlist-verse? I need this because of reasons.
Avatar    Fri. 8/22/14 2:40pm Uncle Michael:

It's the implication that it caused the malfunction that brings it to light. We have no idea if the Cubs are in any way unique in this labor practice...which is shitty.

Good idea, James!

Awesome Tom Jones production number of "Ghost" on his late-60s variety show, recasting the cowboys as bikers.

I love the TJ version so much.

Matt's 2-4, by the way.
Avatar    Fri. 8/22/14 2:49pm Uncle Michael:

That's what my cheat sheet says, Parq. It just looked weird and it messed me up! I'll correct.

My fantasy WFMU account feature would be to actually play all one's starred items like a regular show playlist. But for everything I can already do w WFMU online or via mobile, I honestly can't quibble.

It's been great hanging out with you today. Thanks everyone.

UM, I could as easily use that star-all script on this all-star closing tune, too!

Wonderful program and always a pleasure each Friday. Thanks!!

Tom Paxton once told a 70s Cambridge MA audience that he knew he'd made it when he heard "Last Thing" introduced by another performer as an old Scottish folk song.
