Horace Silver died? I was wondering why I heard "Song for My Father" this AM on a station that doesn't usually play jazz. RIP

The vibraphone album that really blows me away is the collab between Roy Ayers and Fela Kuti
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/19/14 9:40am Jeff:

This must be another station zeitgeist thing - Tony B has been there in his storeroom office among the boxes of swag (re)discovering an appreciation for the vibes after spending some time playing and replaying a Modern Jazz Quartet album I pointed him to.

From WikiP:
In 1980, Mick Jagger wrote a song about Spider Sabich's death that was intended to be on the Rolling Stones' album Emotional Rescue. The song, titled "Claudine", carried lyrics that painted a graphic picture of some of the more salacious aspects of the affair and killing. However, it was deemed too controversial and was removed, although it was included on several bootleg Rolling Stones albums. In November 2011, the track "Claudine" was released on the Rolling Stones' deluxe reissue of their album Some Girls.

@andy: Thanks, Andy. Wow, Harvey Keitel and Yaphet Kotto also in it! Must see it.
Avatar    Thu. 6/19/14 11:19am Snortley:

Kotto's death scene anticipated Blue Man Group by about 30 years.
Avatar    Thu. 6/19/14 11:21am Joe McG:

@snortley: Some people might wish the same fate on Blue Man Group at this point.

i know a real nice man, from senegal, looks exactly like YAPHET KOTTO! and yrs ago, i read a worker's account of his job at detroit auto plant: "rivethead". BEN HAMPER is his name, i believe. worth checking out.

Had to look up who's playing with Herbie on this, Sonny Sharrock is killing it on the guitar on this one.

whenever I put on a respirator I think of kotto's character and trust the same fate does not await me
  Thu. 6/19/14 11:23am Dean:

Sonny Sharrock?
  Thu. 6/19/14 11:24am Dean:

Gah. Need to learn to read...
  Thu. 6/19/14 11:25am P-90:

@ andy: It's impossible to watch that scene without feeling a little bit like you're suffocating

Sure, Herbie can play, but can he play standing on just one leg?

@Guido: That is real news to me! Now if only The Ones had split a record with The Zeros. We'd have the origin of digital music.

I know well the San Diego Zeros, having heard them "back in the day." I assume, though, that with synthesizers time travel is not that big of a deal.
