Good afternoon, Jeff, Jeff, and Doug, and happy Monday to all!!
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:07pm Jeff Golick:

What Doug said.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:07pm Jeff Golick:

Also: what Brian in UK said. And said.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:07pm Jeff Golick:

Good day, Carmichael!
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:08pm Carmichael:

Now what is this guy saying?!?
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:08pm Brian in UK:

I'm naughty.
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:09pm Brian in UK:

I'm veeeeery naughty.
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:10pm Brian in UK:

I'm so naughty, I'm troublesome.

"Nor can I think of boxing in writerly terms as a metaphor for something else.... Life *is* like boxing in many unsettling respects. But boxing is only like boxing."--Joyce Carol Oates, On Boxing
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, Dean!
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:11pm Brian in UK:

For boxing stories, try Ring Larder.

Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:12pm Uncle Michael:

That Funkedelic track took me right back to the lunchroom, sophomore year!
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:14pm Carmichael:

I'm still carefully folding and storing my aluminium hat from the previous show. Carry on.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:15pm Jeff Golick:

@Carmichael: w Benjamen Walker? Yeah. Keeping our hat ON, thanks.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:16pm Jeff Golick:

You had a very cool lunchroom, Uncle Michael. I sorta remember singing along to The Wall at some point, but that's about it.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:18pm Jeff Golick:

Think this is a young John Abercrombie on this Stark Reality.
  Mon. 5/19/14 12:19pm Doug Schulkind:

Speaking as a Knicks "fan," this is better than John Starks reality.
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:21pm Uncle Michael:

I had an out of control lunchroom. Ain't no party like a p-funk party...
  Mon. 5/19/14 12:22pm Jeff J:

Our lunch room was more Run DMC than P-Funk. And Springsteen. And Quiet Riot. Not sure it was good for the digestion.
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:24pm Brian in UK:

Crazy Band cover.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:26pm Jeff Golick:

Yeah, Brian. I love the covers on that Tate album. He also does Dylan.
  Mon. 5/19/14 12:27pm Dean:

Wow, Jeff. Thanks for the Gary Boyle.
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:28pm Carmichael:

@Jeff: it was more the comments board than the show content. It's amazing what some people sincerely believe.
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:33pm Carmichael:

No relation ....
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:37pm ndbob:

  Mon. 5/19/14 12:42pm Jeff J:

Afternoon to all!
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:43pm Jeff Golick:

Ah, Carmichael. I was on the app, so not checking comments. I can imagine (sorta...).
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:45pm northguineahills:

Thought this Ayler sounded familiar. I love this record.
  Mon. 5/19/14 12:49pm Dean:

This and the reference earlier to Lacy reminds me of Rudd and Lacy at McCabe's Guitar Store in West L.A. back in March of 2000. Really miss Steve Lacy.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:50pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, @ngh; good to see ya. Apparently the music was recorded before the film was made.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:51pm Jeff Golick:

Josh Sinton's band Ideal Bread is really keeping the Lacy flame alive. Their new record is a 2-CD set we're just now trying to get our heads around...all Lacy tunes, from the 70s.
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 12:52pm Uncle Michael:

Ideal Bread, not to be confused with Wonder Toys.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:53pm Jeff Golick:

ezzactly.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:54pm Jeff Golick:

Here's that Stark Reality LP cover: 2.bp.blogspot.com...
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 12:54pm northguineahills:

I was playing the box set of Fumio Hayasaka & Masuro Sato this weekend, and my gf told me to turn it off, b/c it was making her anxious. That's how you know that the music is perfect for Kurosawa.
  Mon. 5/19/14 12:56pm Dean:

Ah, yes, I've seen Ideal Bread records. Must pick them up. Let's see: Myra Melford's Be Bread, Michael Moore's Available Jelly... Any ensembles with "Butter" or "Marmalade" in their names? They should play a brunch.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 1:02pm Doug Schulkind:

I'm really loving this track, but it has been too short.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 1:07pm Too $hort:

I resemble that remark.

  Mon. 5/19/14 1:17pm Peter:

Hey guys -- loving the show (as usual). Can I ask for an update on the FMP box set contest (in celebration of the website)? I confess to self-interest!
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 1:26pm Jeff Golick:

Yes, Peter! Thanks. We've been remiss and will get to the announcement in the next week.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 1:28pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, listener james! Snuck in through the side door?
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 1:29pm davex:

Quite a performance by Mr. Redman.
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 1:30pm davex:

(Someone left the side door open, by the way.)
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 1:34pm Jeff Golick:

Yeah, been meaning to get that latch fixed. Hey, @davex!
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 1:36pm davex:

Hi Jeff, actually was listening on the go before, like that Isotope.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 1:43pm Jeff Golick:

Ah sweet. Love the idea of the traveling D:O show.
  Mon. 5/19/14 1:46pm Peter:

Thanks, guys! Actually, I don't know why I'm asking about the contest -- as long as that contest is unresolved, the website is not officially done!
  Mon. 5/19/14 1:50pm Dean:

Exception that proves the rule? Han Bennink.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 1:51pm Neil Peart:

Someone asking for me?
Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 1:58pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Jeff! Hear ya in 1 or 2 weeks!
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 2:14pm Jeff Golick:

Here's that movie/doc/portrait of Jackie McLean we mentioned: vimeo.com... - Jackie McLean on Mars. Well worth your time.

A new Vandermark record? It's about time! How long has it been, maybe a week or two?
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 2:44pm Jeff Golick:

S'up, Mr. oats!

Dean: Heh.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 2:46pm northguineahills:

I was just listening to AEoC's version yesterday. The only other version I have is Jaga Jazzist/Motopsycho version.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 2:51pm Doug Schulkind:

This Shake-a-Leg compilation has a version by The Boogoos: reneshoua.blogspot.com...
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 2:52pm Doug Schulkind:

That is the only other cover version EVER done of this song. Don't even bother searching for another one. Please.
Avatar Mon. 5/19/14 3:00pm northguineahills:

Avatar    Mon. 5/19/14 3:00pm listener james from westwood:
