A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Been taking loratidine, the non-sedating 24 hr. antihistamine (generic for Claritin). Still bad enough last night that I needed a blow of albuterol (bronchodilator). I recommend the loratidine, although its one side effect is dryness of the mouth & throat, which might impair your voice on air, but since you won't be on again for a week.... Rite Aid has a cheap, mouth-dissolving loratidine free base 10 mg.

I've been on both coasts of Costa Rica and really liked Puerto Viejo and the Caribbean side. It's harder to get to, though. Manuel Antonio on the Pacific is closer to San Jose and laid back too. Basically you can't go wrong. The cloud forest is well worth it. I've been to the Nicoya Peninsula and the Osa Peninsula. Both are great but take a while to get to. If you're going for the first time I'd say go to Monteverde and Manuel Antonio.

I agree with ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ, that's what I did plus Arenal but we never saw the volcano because of clouds.

I had fun driving the rental car around too. People told me the roads sucked but that's not true anymore, they're great. You'll hit dirt roads in the mountains but that's fun too.

@Cube Occupant - Late pass on the CR convo. I stayed at the Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Hotel for part of my honeymoon, and saw plenty of birds on their grounds. We actually had a guided tour, so someone there showed us tricks on how to pick out birds in the trees. Also, lots of hummingbirds on site, so crazy to have them fly right up to your face and stop on a dime and just hover.

Here's a link to some info on the Villa Blanca:

I've been to CR twice, and I can't wait to go back.

I thought England used km was until third trip there when we did a lot of driving. BTW they have powerful cars and drive extremely fast

What movie?
Avatar Tue. 5/6/14 11:31am ghostofpeterfalk:

The UK thought about changing to kilometres in the 60's, but then The Who were about to release I Can See For Miles and put a stop to things right there and then, as it didn't have the same ring to it. Pete Townsend has it written in his contract that as long as he shall live the UK will continue with miles a measurement of distance between places....Loved Kevin Morby Trouble and have a copy of Harlem River, the Cate Le Bon collaboration is a favourite, but Sucker in the Void is the stand-out for me. Heard first on this here very show.

If Miles had been called Kilometre Davis - the world of jazz and indeed the world in general, would surely have been a sadder and more importantly, less cool place!
