Question for anyone who had themselves a wedding: what was the craziest song you snuck onto the reception playlist?
Avatar 9:32am
bibi:

i had once the spouse dancing/sliding barefoot on dull wine-poured beige tiling. it was fat drum n bass, i'd say roni size. no one was harmed.

Oh hey, sorry to abuse my posting privileges, but I always meant to ask someone who knows more French than I do about this Liminanas song: what's a cachou, in terms of pills? I know it's cashew, but sounds like he's offering her a drug. Of course, sometimes a cashew is just a cashew...

whenever I hear that one, I substitute the lines:

The road runner goes "Beep, beep."

and

That little Nash Rambler goes "beep, beep, beep."
Avatar 10:26am
bibi:

@mariano, in this case un cachou (un cacheton more regularly) is mdma, or just a cachou, which is already quite strong though not psychotropic.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am

@bibi: je t'en remercie! I thought that's what it probably was, but when I lived over there years ago it wasn't really my scene, all the drug slang I learned revolved around le shit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am
Liz Berg:

Thanks for the drug slang translations, you guys! I've learned so much!
  10:31am
Robert:

Thanks, Brian. Before posting that, I Googled "en caoutchou" to check the speling. Lots of hits, but now that I look again, it first asked, "Did you mean caoutchouc?"
  10:34am
Robert:

I misspelled "spelling". Is there a greater irony?
Avatar 10:35am
bibi:

@mariano : et la beuh alors ?! where did you live ?
Avatar 10:36am

It's a very odd word. Apparently from Quechua.
My favorite French word: topinambour. Sounds like pillow-talk to me.

Avatar 10:51am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am
mariano:

@bibi: Yeah, the photo in the link you posted reminded me of Tempelhof in Berlin, very fascist-deco. I lived in the much more charming older part of town (well, older to an American). The Medieval quarter and St Pierre are really cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am
HarktheUmpire:

what the...
Tempelhof is very subtle compared to that.
That looks more like this to me:

I must know what happened to her eyebrows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am
mariano:

@bibi: Well, I'm from New Orleans and spent 7 years as a kid in Latin America, so the Mediterranean setting wasn't too disorienting. In fact it was a really welcome change, since for the previous 5 years I'd been in Omaha (which does have lovely deco architecture) with its famous winters.
Avatar 11:12am

There's actually a fair amount of examples of the Prairie School and divergent buildings based on similar design principles. Quite nice. But the campus/downtown area, for example, is a meat grinder of schlock.
