Hey, all!
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:03pm rrg:

Hi ya, LL. And youse all.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:03pm Mike East:

loved hearing that Jonesy's favorite part of the marathon was a hug shared with Irwin.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:05pm Irwin:

Hey LL (and everyone) - any Q's for Clientele & AdD?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:05pm Jay/London:

hi irwin ... @ mike east how's the cooking ?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:09pm common:

lookin forward to the clientele!
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:09pm Mike East:

@Jay - great! I made some chicken paprikash this morning for my family, which is what I cooked for the marathon a few weeks ago. Still haven't gotten to the falafel, but I still have your recipe printed out.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:10pm Cubicle Carl:

The unmistakable genius of Lane Steinberg.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:10pm Denise in DC:

No questions at the moment -- I don't yet know their music. Looking forward to being introduced to them. As you have introduced me to so many terrific acts over the years.
  Wed. 3/19/14 3:10pm Laura L:

No questions so much as to say looking forward to Friday night's show. Wish I could make both shows, but am previously engaged for Thr. with Krysztof Penderecki concert... variety being the spice of life.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:12pm Mike East:

@Jay - I also made that Gypsy soup for WFMU, which I believe I sent you the recipe for. people seemed to enjoy it.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:12pm rrg:

What a fine radio program this is.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:13pm Denise in DC:

Is this song a mix, or did Pink Martini actually perform with the Von Trapps? Either way, it's fabulous.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:14pm rrg:

They really recorded together. This is a new album but there was some stuff on the previous PM album.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:20pm Jay/London:

@ mike East i lost the recipe for gypsy soup think i gave it to a friend .. any chance of sent to me again
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:20pm Wilson K:

Yeeeeeesh. Yeesh.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:21pm Mike East:

absolutely...once I find it again
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:21pm Irwin:

Too kool for kountry, WK?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:22pm glenn:

jeeez. if you had to fill your alberta quota for the day, why not k.d. lang?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:23pm glenn:

or even loverboy, for god's sake.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:23pm rrg:

Irwin doesn't have to do CanCon. It's his choice. not someone else's. Unlike where you come from, sir.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:24pm glenn:

ya know... i'm not even sure there are cancon rules any more.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:26pm Denise in DC:

I'm not anti-country, but I am anti-Terri Clark. At least this afternoon.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:27pm Irwin:

re: T Clark: great song, he said without irony.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:29pm Parq:

Peanut Butter Sandwich! Thank you, my whole day is made.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:29pm common:

great! peanut butter sandwich!
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:29pm nickybones:

I only took offense to the Yankees reference.
  Wed. 3/19/14 3:29pm berbo:

Art Paul! Straight outta Madison!
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:29pm Droll:

Loverboy is preferable to country music? I'm always amazed at people who will listen to Jandek caterwaul for 18 minutes but complain about country music. I hope Irwin play a bluegrass Tarkus cover next.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:30pm Denise in DC:

Perhaps it was the performance that annoyed me. I'm not a fan of slick Top 40-esque country.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:30pm Parq:

And for what it's worth, I also dug the T. Clark.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:30pm Jay/London:

have a peanut butter sandwich !!! love it :)
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:30pm JakeGould:

I was going to say something about this song, but my cat was taking a bath.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:31pm glenn:

you can like it, i don't care, but for the love of ernest tubb, don't call it country. it's not.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:31pm Denise in DC:

Now I want a peanut butter sandwich. Without irony.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:32pm Wilson K:

Terri Clark and now this? You're gonna drive me to Give the Drummer Some.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:32pm Denise in DC:

I'll listen to Kitty Wells any day of the week.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:33pm common:

love new pink floyd.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:35pm Denise in DC:

New Pink Floyd I like.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:37pm Michael:

I guess we should say g'bye to WilsonK
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:37pm Parq:

Okay, wit aside, this reworking of "Spell" is really cool.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:39pm Ike:

I'd be in the market for a bluegrass Tarkus cover. Or Jandek.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:40pm Denise in DC:

Mike East: was the Gypsy Soup the same recipe that used to be included in the old Moosewood Cookbook?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:42pm Ike:

That's not a request. That's a reference to Droll's 3:29 comment. I don't make requests.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:42pm Carmichael:

Heyo Irwin and Chusidians. Put me down for a bluegrass Jandek.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:42pm Mike East:

@Denise - Yes! I put my own spin on it though...
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:44pm Droll:

Consider mine a request, to the extent requests are taken at FMU.

The messenger of fear is slowly growing, nearer to the time,
A sign.
The Weaver in the web that he made! [washboard break]
  Wed. 3/19/14 3:44pm dave:

it was the hard boiled eggs
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:45pm JakeGould:

FWIW, Art Paul Schlosser has all—and I mean ALL—of the albums he sells on the streets of Madison in the iTunes store. itunes.apple.com...
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:47pm Wilson K:

Nah I stuck it out. As usual, glad I did. But if he plays the Australian with the severe allergy reaction, I'll really have to jump ship!
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:47pm Alison Porchnik:

This is my favorite new artist
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:49pm Mike East:

that kid is good.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:49pm MikeY:

who is arden eno?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:50pm MikeY:

I like him
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:50pm Carmichael:

Mr./Ms. Eno has no internet presence. Therefore, .....
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:51pm MikeY:

any relation to Brian ENO?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:51pm Denise in DC:

. . . s/he doesn't exist?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:52pm MikeY:

WELL last fm says so no bio though
  Wed. 3/19/14 3:53pm Redd Demin:

Of course it was the hard boiled eggs Dave Hill can't be Satan because I am.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:53pm MikeY:

Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 3:56pm JakeGould:

4:20 is 24 minutes from now. Have fun!
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:04pm rrg:

Hey, I saw that Carole King musical. Wow, were those people ever old! The audience I mean, not the performers.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:05pm MikeY:

It was 420 at 830 when I gotr out of work Its 420 all day LOL
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:07pm rsj:

when do you smoke the cocaine?
and sung with such a pleasant and happy voice
  Wed. 3/19/14 4:08pm cb:

So excited to hear The Clientele are back, but why no Mel Draisey?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:10pm Denise in DC:

Love this version of Mother and Child Reunion.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:10pm rrg:

It's not often that we hear a Paul Simon composition on this program.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:10pm Whooda:

Always like Spirit, thanks for this cover of Simon DJ Erwin.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:11pm Denise in DC:

(BTW, I always feel so uninformed when I don't have anything more detailed/articulate to say than "I love this song." But right now that's all I got.)
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:11pm Carmichael:

I love Spirit, but I hate this crap.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:12pm Whooda:

hahaha :)
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:15pm SeanG:

orange is my favorite color
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:16pm glenn:

as long as you don't march in the orange parade, that's okay. those fuckers.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:19pm Whooda:

As a visual artist I like that those groups identify by color, Orange, Black, Rainbow, etc. Beats the hell out of "Moose Lodge".
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:20pm fleep:

Now? Now.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:20pm MikeY:

Passes a 420 special about the listening audience
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:23pm Irwin:

Alasdair just called -- flight was delayed 4 hrs, they just arrived at JFK, no way they can make it down here for some airtime. We'll get them next visit.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:24pm glenn:

were they on malaysian airlines?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:24pm Carmichael:

Good thing you have more Terry Clark, Irwin.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:24pm common:

Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:25pm Whooda:

Troubadours never had to deal with flight delays, only lame horses and broken cart wheels.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:25pm MikeY:

I knew that was coming
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 4:25pm MikeY:

Send the FMU chopper out to JFK to pick them up.
  Wed. 3/19/14 5:04pm Laura L:

Great mix of songs--great suggestions from all! The video that goes w/ this one is great too, yes.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:07pm glenn:

i don't know them very well either. i like what i've heard.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:13pm Alison Porchnik:

If this was the Birth of the Cool then we've surely entered the late middle-age of cool.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:14pm Carmichael:

Not according to my kids, Alison. I'm definitely prime time uncool.
  Wed. 3/19/14 5:14pm !.!:

i do not no this irwin. he must be new. but iriwn ch: you are good! i like you!
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:17pm glenn:

oh, it's not just me then. i can't stand ella either.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:17pm Droll:

Miles followed by Art? Now Irwin's just overcompensating for the waylaid guests.

AP, That's very generous -- methinks cool (as Miles knew it) was already dead by the time The Beatles got to the US.
Wed. 3/19/14 5:19pm Listening Out There:

I like Ella. Sorry. Among her accomplishments: becoming a band leader after leader/drummer Chick Webb passed away.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:19pm glenn:

so next week's interviewee won't be late because of airplane issues then.
  Wed. 3/19/14 5:20pm Crystal Wineglass:

I cant listen to Ella Fitzgerald either. I just go to pieces.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:20pm TDK60:

Oh no! We gotta help save Partch's instruments !!!!
Wed. 3/19/14 5:20pm Listening Out There:

Harry Partch's instruments should be in the Smithsonian
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:26pm Mike East:

I was recently revisiting the first Gorillaz album. Some really great stuff there, imo.
Wed. 3/19/14 5:26pm Listening Out There:

Hmm. I'm hungry. Maybe a peanut butter sandwich...
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:27pm Denise in DC:

I like peanut butter on rye.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:27pm Droll:

I was cool with the Peanut Butter sandwich song, but peanut butter on rye? I think that's gonna keep him out of the top-spot on the charts.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:29pm rrg:

Oh, my. Thanks.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:29pm Denise in DC:

Droll, I find that comment offensive. You are oppressing my peanut-butter-on-rye-loving cultural heritage.
  Wed. 3/19/14 5:30pm Kathy:

peanut butter and death!!!!
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:30pm Carmichael:

Juan has an interesting outlook on life.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:31pm Denise in DC:

And death.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:34pm rrg:

Grampy was my least favorite character in the Boop cartoons. No, wait, that was Pudgy.

But the fellow could sing.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:36pm Irwin:

Prof. Grampy invented the interwebs.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:38pm rrg:

I need to do some research, then.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:38pm Denise in DC:

I thought that was Neil deGrasse Tyson.

No, wait -- he invented the cosmos.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:39pm Parq:

My favorite character in the Boop cartoons was Betty's thighs.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:41pm rrg:

Hey, do I want to watch this "Cosmos" reboot? Because I haven't been.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:42pm Denise in DC:

I haven't either.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:42pm Droll:

I thought Dr. Gore invented the internet for Mark Suckerberg.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:43pm Parq:

I haven't watched it, rrg, but here's an interesting tidbit. Carl Sagan's widow was quoted in a New Yorker profile of Tyson that they went with Fox because it was the only network that offered them the time with no strings attached.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:44pm rrg:

What did the others want?
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:45pm rrg:

That Jennifer Charles chick can sing a note or two.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:46pm rrg:

We wouldn't dream of correcting you.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:48pm Droll:

rrg, I read NBC/Universal wanted Intelligent Design added. ABC wanted equal time for Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, and PBS insisted it shouldn't go beyond the comprehension of 7-year olds and would need to pause for fundraiser for 8 minutes of every half-hour. All FOX wanted was to "sex it up".
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:52pm Parq:

RRG, various sorts of editorial control -- script approval, power of veto as to subject matter, that kinda things. Apparently, on this point, Fox decided it really *would* be fair and balanced.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:53pm Parq:

No, wait, I like Droll's answer better.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:55pm Ike:

Actually it's on Fox because of Seth MacFarlane, oddly enough, despite the mind-numbing stupidity of Family Guy, a big hit that puts him in an influential position w/Fox. He was a big fan of Sagan's Cosmos and got Fox to fund this new version.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:55pm rrg:

Hey, I played this just the other...month.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:57pm rrg:

Wait, it's 18:00 already? You see, I was listening and didn't notice until now.

All right, pals, time to warm up the leftovers. Have an excellent time until we meet again.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:58pm rrg:

And thank you for an especially fine show, Mr. Irwin.
Avatar Wed. 3/19/14 5:58pm Droll:

Thanks Irwin! Have a fun week, yinz!
  Tue. 6/10/14 9:25pm arden eno:

Hay Irwin can you play don't judge a book 323 tomorrow thanks by.
