"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Morning John. You'll have to fill us in on this very special T-shirt that I'm hearing about.

Hiya, John Allen, and good morning to you, P-90 and GOT. Along for the never-dull ride.
  Wed. 2/19/14 6:20am P-90:

Hi Sem, I'm feeling the burning giraffe
Avatar 🎃 Wed. 2/19/14 6:21am Sem Chumbo:

@P-90. Don;t stand too close!
I finally looked up P-90, and now own a whole new knowledge of pick-ups. Thank you for that:)
Avatar Wed. 2/19/14 6:26am John Allen:

i just had to google 'burning giraffe', it sounded worse than it actually is
  Wed. 2/19/14 6:26am P-90:

@Sem, do you paint that art yourself? If not, who do? It's got a Disneyish vibe in the most complimentary sense, if you know what I mean
  Wed. 2/19/14 6:28am P-90:

Ohhh... it's Dali! If I've seen it before, I'd forgotten it
....always go to Google first. Damn them.
Avatar 🎃 Wed. 2/19/14 6:29am Sem Chumbo:

@P-90: just about to send you that. I grew up in a small university town which had a gigantic Dali, got hooked on surrealism then.
Avatar Wed. 2/19/14 6:32am bibi:

hi all. john, any chance to hear some of szczepanik's new lp soon here ?
  Wed. 2/19/14 6:35am P-90:

The stuff in the foreground of the original is unmistakable, the giraffe itself is not a dead giveaway. Interesting that the mood of the colors, the flames against that particular blue sky, reminded me of Disney; this was 1937, just about the time their style was gelling as well.
May I ask what college town? Did the college itself have a big painting, mural, or sculpture of his?
  Wed. 2/19/14 6:35am P-90:

Salut bibi!

Avatar Wed. 2/19/14 7:09am bibi:

excuse my english, but dont you say 'aN understanding' ?
Avatar Wed. 2/19/14 7:10am John Allen:

your english is correct. the record label is not
  Wed. 2/19/14 7:17am P-90:

@bibi:Yes, in English of course we customarily switch to "an" before a vowel, "per fare le liason". I suspect Mr. Gale chose his title as a reference to Black American dialect. The only other "joke' would be if the piece had been written in the key of A, which I'm almost certain it was not. Either way, an intentional whimsicality.
Avatar Wed. 2/19/14 7:25am John Allen:

i like to think that Gale stuck to his guns
  Wed. 2/19/14 7:33am will:

Are you going to go all prog on us now John? I for one support your efforts. And so does Greg Lake.

Ah great choice Saada Bonaire! I re-issued this record myself! No joking!

This arrangement couldn't be better. Do we know who's playing that bass?
