Good morning and others, salut Pierre
I'm sorry to report that the French band Cousteau Twins changed their name to Couteau Twins. No longer a good fit for this show
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 6:12am Guido (Cologne):

Hello everyone!
Is it "Four Ay Dee" or "Fourad" or both?
I recently heard "Fourad" on Fench/German TV and was confused.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 6:13am Meghan:

I'm trying to play a bit more odd 4AD songs to play
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 6:14am bibi:

thx meghan. worth a cover.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 6:15am Matt from Springfield:

Hi Guido!
Always "Four Ay Dee" (Four A. D.) but a non-English announcer might have flubbed it.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 6:15am bibi:

the bulgarian choir was great. somehow reminded me of the brilliant theme from ghost in the shell.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 6:17am KP:

En réalité, since moving to city i have reluctantly become a boring dayside person. It has had traumatic effect on my WFMU experience.

Wow, "If July" is great, it's like 60s folk made trippy!

Yay! You asked my question!
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 7:21am glenn:

A lo of bands aren't satisfied about what their fans think is their best work.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:26am Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

I wonder how many bands broke up after going into a studio without prep.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:26am Guido (Cologne):

Video .. good idea!
I still try to tell people to consider birthday Party ... not always nick Cave a.t.B.S.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:27am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah - on one hand the Artist of course knows better - on the other hand no one has less perspective than the Artist !...
  Thu. 2/6/14 7:28am KP:

That was a great Valentine's Day show
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:31am Guido (Cologne):

Anyone familiar with Matt Johnson's "Burning Blue Soul"? (also 4AD some 1981 or so)
I'm not at all in all the other The The, but that one was marvelous!
Lotsa tape-looping and stuff ...
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:32am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- wasn't Matt in his teens still & did it all on a 4-track in his room or something - ?! Great album.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 7:33am Meghan:

funny you mention that..... it's up next....
  Thu. 2/6/14 7:33am KP:

Genius really.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 7:35am Meghan:

I'm a huge The The fan.... and I absolutely love that album......

Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 7:44am groucho:

Sorry I'm late, too busy to read back through the comments, has anyone mentioned 4AD 3D CD by Half Man Half Biscuit? they should have. Hello by the way.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'81 was pretty early & 'Burning Blue Soul' had real impact: you heard it & replayed it in your mind. Very surprised you don't know it fred - your knowledge generally shames me !
  Thu. 2/6/14 7:51am KP:

The The was Was Not Was?
  Thu. 2/6/14 7:51am Chris - echolalia radio:

Love that Ultra Vivid Scene track. Suburb show. Sweet mix.
  Thu. 2/6/14 7:51am KP:

Hey I dropped mine off in person
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...terrifying to think that there were only 13 years between 'Electric Ladyland' & 'Burning Blue Soul'
- but 33 years between 'BBSoul' & now - but it makes sense...
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:53am Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

Common Meghan... "not a big fan". Be a bit more harsh. :-)
  Thu. 2/6/14 7:53am KP:

I was surprised to see the pixies listed among the 4AD bands.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:54am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- I liked RedHousePainters - but I like FolkRawk & have a deffo glum side...
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 7:56am fred von helsing:

4bc would be a Christian label so I guess 4ad must be satanic ?
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 7:57am Meghan:

KP, who did you drop it off with?

Chris, so glad you are enjoying the show!
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 7:58am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

ADADADAD
- that's 4 'ad''s - everything on our label has two chords
...& we all have ADD - & OCD too: everything has to be perfect - but just for minute...
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:00am Guido (Cologne):

I think the Pixies were also not really into the 4AD-artworks, as far it suits the music.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:01am Guido (Cologne):

Like LedZep were huge Joni Mitchell fans.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:02am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- this is a great example of the inside/outside thing - as the Visual Sense on 4AD *was* such a big deal !...
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:03am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- lotsa Folk & Acoustic in Zep.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:05am Guido (Cologne):

Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:07am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...their version of the Pistols in Texas
...I wish *I* could see Doors & Beefheart !
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:13am KP:

Meghan, there's the rub. it was after 5 pm and i went upstairs and saw like four younger people (not that they are all that way to me) whom i did recognize sitting around the round table in the volunteer. i asked them to drop it off and they seemed actively disinterested.
However i did see both Chris and Scot on way out and they might have more info. In any event it would be easy to run off another, which i was going to do anyway, since i saw it as a keeper.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 8:15am Meghan:

yeah.... that is sooooo not helpful! They were most likely drunk or on their way to getting drunk. I don't know if I will find it, to be honest.....
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:17am KP:

In retrospect that seems an accurate assessment. i'll start on new one. That one had some character flaws anyway.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:18am Guido (Cologne):

Youhad to spend nights because of page-loading time ... hehehe ... 20 videos at once or so ...
  Thu. 2/6/14 8:21am P-90:

........drunk volunteers? I refuse to believe it, it's inconceivable, no way, it'll never happen
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:25am common:

love evey cocteau twins record...ah, youth. morning peoples!
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:25am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...prefer it if the 1st isn't the best - exact opposite of the Contempo Corporate attitude...
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:28am common:

YEA! can my band be on your lable, please?
  Thu. 2/6/14 8:30am P-90:

The approach he's describing is the ONLY way, it's always been, you can't have that "stick with me, Kid, Ill make you a star" line of bs
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:31am Cheri Pi:

Here! loving this.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:34am Cheri Pi:

Meghan, how did your head NOT explode?
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 8:35am Meghan:

Good question. I was super excited and happy to talk with him. But I just went in ready to go and positive and I think it rubbed off. That and I bought him a coffee.....
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:37am Cheri Pi:

It did, you sounded like a total pro and he seemed very comfortable and chummy.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:38am common:

that was a great interview! He sounds like a great guy.
Thu. 2/6/14 8:40am Dirty Old Man:

Interesting interview, especially since I didn't know much about him. You should have pushed him to sign Jeff to one of those half million pound record contracts.
  Thu. 2/6/14 8:41am Chris - echolalia radio:

Great interview!!
  Thu. 2/6/14 8:42am P-90:

@Meghan: Don't you think artists out promo-ing quickly figure out whether you're really knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their stuff, and will relax and warm up to you if they find you're for real? I heard this as a perfect example, he was happy to go on in as much depth as you would ask him to because he wasn't with some schmoe going through the motions
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:43am KP:

sent msg to scott asking him to look into it. Otherwise another is NP.
Great show, see ya.

Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:53am Cheri Pi:

B23, do yourself a favor man!!!
  Thu. 2/6/14 8:55am P-90:

@Meghan: I see what you mean, one can easily be starstruck & a little tongue-tied, like the old Chris Farley SNL routine, and the artist just withdraws from that. A pretty famous guitarist once said to me that the same thing happened to him a couple of times when he would meet revered older American blues players in London, "one ends up just speaking in breathless generalities." But if a journalist prepares those questions carefully, like you say, that grounds the interview and allows a real exchange.
Well done! and tell us a little about his shoes that day
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 8:56am Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

What's wrong with Lush? Is it because if you pronounce R and Ls the same, it sounds like Rush?

I've got a massage tomorrow evening. We normally listen to the most recent Trouble archive but I think we will have to listen to this instead!
  Thu. 2/6/14 8:57am dinatekno:

I have been in heaven all morning. You are fantastic! LUSH has been my favorite since my 90's shoegaze days in San Francisco. Lots of E and lots of Lush.

Will there be a show for HATE songs to get equal time? Just askin
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 9:00am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- I don't hate Lush - they had a couple different sounds anyway
- Interview was the Kewlest...
  Fri. 2/7/14 12:21pm van:

Nice start, but how could it not be with 4AD in the spotlight :)
  Fri. 2/7/14 12:34pm van:

This Mortal Coil - Have always loved, loved them!
  Fri. 2/7/14 1:37pm van:

Just loving his discussion of Elizabeth Fraser, and how she worked within the structure of the songs and how she jotted her lyrics, etc. Fascinating.
  Fri. 2/7/14 1:46pm van:

Wow. Sounds like Cocteau Twins in general could realistically file several lawsuits seeking compensation due, from their own stuff and from This Mortal Coil's first two albums.
  Fri. 2/7/14 2:25pm van:

* fast forwards past Pixies *
  Fri. 2/7/14 3:22pm van:

Just a fantastic interview. WELL DONE! Simon is so real, honest, fresh, well spoken, insightful. Must. Listen. Again. #Bookmark
