A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Freeform means "Play it, damn the consequences"
Tue. 2/4/14 9:39am Andy from Atlanta:

Michael McDonald sings a lot of songs that sound like the closing credits to SNL.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:39am glenn:

i agree with dale. once that insidious simpering oaf macdonald came on board, the doobies were dead to me.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:39am PKNY:

I need to commission someone to make me a painting of Michael McDonald and Christopher Cross riding like the wind to the border of Mexico.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:40am common:

@glenn: absolutely!
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:40am common:

@pkny: ha hee!!!
  Tue. 2/4/14 9:42am neilwarren:

Bill Payne's piano made that track!
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:42am PKNY:

Woah, just checked the Wikipedia page for "Ride like the Wind":

What you probably didn't know about the song: Christopher Cross was on acid when he wrote the lyrics. "We were living in Houston at the time, and on the way down to Austin to record the songs, it was just a beautiful Texas day," he told us. "I took acid. So I wrote the words on the way down from Houston to Austin on acid."
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:45am glenn:

number of songs written while stoned on acid - too many to count.

number of no-hitters thrown while stoned on acid - 1.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I didn't mind the sax! - I think the quickest way to a crap sound is cheap slick electronic keyboard
...the Production philosophy of Yacht Rock is to take all the Edges off - like audio Koons w/ no irony - if that even makes sense; it's the opposite of Authenticity to the ears & tastes of some of us...
  Tue. 2/4/14 9:45am koto@kanagawa:

good morning Trouble and all, and good night...i'll be soon dreaming me skating on the huge art.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:47am PKNY:

@glenn - Ok, so replace Michael McDonald with Dock Ellis in that painting.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:48am glenn:

i can work with that.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:49am glenn:

actually, the doobies would have been better if they had replaced macdonald with dock ellis.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:50am northguineahills:

I've must have been MIA for a while, never noticed this B&S release.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:51am common:

@rev rabbit: I agree. the cheap keyboard sound makes my head throb. @pkny christopher cross on acid. never woulda thunk it.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- of course, you might use a cheap slick keyboard sound in a >context< that would work...
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 9:54am Brian in UK:

Hello trouble. Always trying to see the bigger picture.
  Tue. 2/4/14 9:57am emily:

Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:07am Brian in UK:

I do not normally like to see roadkill but this week I have seen two foxes lying prone in the road. I smiled quietly to myself. It was cheap but some small recompense for our chickens slaughtered.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:08am glenn:

hey! foxes rock. and besides, what's the difference between foxes slaughtering them and you slaughtering them?
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:10am βrian:

We keep our chickens in enclosures, so the fox can watch.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:13am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Google: 'this child that I had you done'

Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:14am Brian in UK:

Our chooks are for eggs only. You would not want to eat them at their age.
@βrian I thought our fencing was sufficient. WRONG. They came mob handed. Should move to the country. All the foxes have gone urban.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:15am NotFromHere:

Hey Revolution Rabbit. Basically he's asking her what she's done with the child he made with her, and she doesn't seem to even recognize him, and keeps flirting with him instead of answering.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:17am bobdoesthings:

I keep my chicken in the freezer... sorry couldn't help myself
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:17am NotFromHere:

The whole song is making fun of the gooey romance songs that were popular over here at the time.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:17am Brian in UK:

Kevin Morby reminds me of The Clientele.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:17am Snortley:

I know a couple who raise free-range chickens in Vermont. They leave out the less-edible parts for the local foxes to keep them away from the live birds.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:18am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cheers NFH
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:18am bibi:

@rev rabbit : im working but lyrics of that b. fontaine song disturbed me (again). more or less : they lost a baby, but literally. they dont know where they've put it last...
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:18am βrian:

So the chickens are all amputees?
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:18am bibi:

sorry didnt see @notfromhere comment. you got it.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:19am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the plot thickens...cut w/ chickens...
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:19am NotFromHere:

The juxtaposition of lost babies and amputee chickens... Is that a topic or...?
@bibi no worries at all, two answers are better than none, plus we agree.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:21am Brian in UK:

Our plot thickened with chicken blood. Six out of eight were taken This myth about just killing is exactly that. Cubs to feed.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:22am Snortley:

After slaughter, of course. Funny thing about their free-range practices; although the birds are allowed to go anywhere on the farm, they choose to huddle together in a mass in one corner of the barn.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:23am NotFromHere:

They're scared, they've heard tales of amputee chickens being fed to foxes and wayward babies.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:23am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...there'll be payback when they let the chickenosaurs come to term...
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:24am Brian in UK:

Many people are scared of chickens, think it is the way they run t'wards you and the nip from beaks.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:24am northguineahills:

Well, that and in the wild, they wouldn't have prey in an enclosed space that didn't have effective means of escape (domestic chickens). Also, being able to stash a kill for later w/o actually being able to do so effectively, either by being startled or being unable to.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:27am Brian in UK:

There is one woman on our allotments that FEEDS the foxes. Saints preserve us.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:28am Snortley:

Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:30am Brian in UK:

Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:33am Brian in UK:

Looks like a great film.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:33am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- shame they can't just feed on the American GreySquirrels over there (we *are* sorry)...even Eastern Buddhists are killing (non-native) racoons to save their ancient wood temples...

Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:54am Davee:

Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:55am Brian in UK:

Got 'Static' for a Christmas present, still not sure about it. Not the spark of the first album. Ah broken relationships.
Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 10:56am bobdoesthings:

@davee - ?? Hmm.. there was an album out like 10 years ago by Josephine Foster and The Supposed. Two guys playing with her, electric.. great album called "All the Leaves Are Gone" ... I was hoping they'd put out something else.. but nothing :( I was curious if anyone knew anything about that

Avatar Tue. 2/4/14 11:42am northguineahills:

Yeah, you have to quarantine the snails and feed them fresh clean veggies for a week or so, then starve for a few days before the arduous task of boiling and cooking them multiple times to get rid of the slime. In Nigeria, the use some sort of lye on the giant African land snails to remove the slime, if I remember correctly. I want to try some.
