The lazy calm at the week's start. A few live performances included, but mainly music with an ear tilted toward string-driven things. (Visit homepage.)

Cheers for King Henry. A long favorite. Such a huge fan of Steeleye Span's version, always great to hear another...

Was there ever a finer voice than Ms. Petifer's?
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 12:15pm Irene Trudel:

Hi everybody! Come warm yourself by the crackling radio.

The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll has always felt like a sister-song of Percy's Song

Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 12:26pm KP:

Was the Fairport Convention in honor of Iain Matthews is our fair city. I was there last night and it was great.

Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 12:29pm Brian in UK:

Iain or Ian?
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 12:30pm KP:

He was part of the Gene Clark/No Other tribute at the Williamsburg Music Hall last night. He was the only one over 10.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 12:30pm KP:

Ian was busy
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 12:31pm KP:

The fact he had recorded several of Gene's songs and has a certain star presence added a lot.

Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 12:53pm kat330:

H'Irene and all!

Whatever "The Thing at the Nursery Room Window," It seems gentle and harmless enough.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 12:59pm Irene Trudel:

@Kat, yeah I find Peter Lang's playing fairly sweet and nightmare-free.
  Mon. 1/27/14 1:01pm don d:

Peter Walker performing in Brooklyn in early February, at Baby's All Right, I believe.
  Mon. 1/27/14 1:02pm EvanDandoIsHot:

HGM is neither sibilant, nor gilded nor messenger-like; Xiu Xiu is all three.
Mon. 1/27/14 1:05pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Perfect sounds for a dark, soggy evening here in Brissle
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:09pm kat330:

Sean, did you see my note up above? Apparently it required 4 nearly identical-looking cats to make one that you love.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:24pm YETI BOB:

The lovely wife and i were just talking about Neil Young! Irene, are you listening in to our conversation through this internet feed? ;-)
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:24pm mauri:

Hey Irene and all. Songs go well with my tired evening. Good mood.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:25pm Mike East:

think I may have to get that Live at the Cellar Door record.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:26pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Sorry Kat, was just putting out my four bins for collection tomorrow, one for paper, bottles, one for plastics, one for food left overs and one for everything else. Yes, I read a review, four kitties, lovely
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:29pm kat330:

@Sean: A recycler and a cat lover -- knew we had a kinship beyond Irene and "Breaking Bad." Speaking of which, how long until your Albuquerque visit?
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:30pm Irene Trudel:

@Yeti Bob, but of course! I channel all your thoughts to create the show. :)
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:35pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Kat, flying over 1st of April, quick fix of Met's baseball then down to ABQ on the 3rd, can't wait
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:36pm kat330:

I wish you the best of weather and good times!
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:39pm kat330:

What a gee-orgeous voice he has, and she's no slouch either.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:42pm Whosondephone:

What are you talking over?
  Mon. 1/27/14 1:44pm van:

Yes, and rats, I missed Roy Harper. Work. Sigh.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:46pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Irene, purchased the latest Goldfrapp album, tis a thing of beauty, thanks for playing that wonderful track the other week.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:50pm kat330:

Irene, so pleased you said "MISchievous" and not "misChIEvious" w/ the nonexistent extra syllable! [can take so little to make me happy].
  Mon. 1/27/14 1:50pm tonyb:

uncle tupelo used a cut from
that session on their best of comp. a few years back
  Mon. 1/27/14 1:54pm Jett Brando:

Nice tune
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:55pm MenfussMike:

this vaguely reminds me of Mercury Rev
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:56pm Sean in Bristol UK:

a download, I think
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 1:56pm Irene Trudel:

@Whosondephone, it's R. Carlos Nakai. I should add it to the playlist. @Sean, I pulled that Goldfrapp album to play in a bit. @kat, thanks for the info on the cat in ILD. I knew there were at least two, but I guess they needed cats who were trained to do certain things. As most of us know, it's fairly difficult to train a cat! @tonyb, I know about that Uncle Tupelo reissue. THis new one is supposed to have at least one other Music Faucet track. I want to play the whole session to make sure it's in our archive.
  Mon. 1/27/14 2:01pm van:

Oh wow, the opening melody of this song reminded me of the opening theme from the new Helix TV show for some reason
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:03pm kat330:

This is like Doris Day if she sang alternative / indie.
  Mon. 1/27/14 2:24pm Bubba:

Thank you Irene!
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:27pm kat330:

Did Jeff Buckley's voice Leif him only to return in Vollebekk's? Wow.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:36pm kat330:

Mmmm. Thanks for this sublime vocal music, all throughout the program.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:36pm Irene Trudel:

@kat, I know! Lief's voice is uncannily similar to Jeff. And speak of the Devil...
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:36pm kat330:

:)
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:38pm kat330:

Don't know when / if I'll ever finish, but I have at least begun writing a tribute to Jeff. Maybe one day.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:38pm kat330:

[I should say tribute in the form of a song.]
Mon. 1/27/14 2:48pm Listening Out There:

Thought that sounded like Dan Hicks. Lo & Behold, it were...
  Mon. 1/27/14 2:50pm coelacanth:

Hi Irene. Yes i remember Nick Hill. I have bits of a few shows on cassette tape. I had whole shows but i dont know where now. ...My most favorite version of "tennessee waltz" is from there,by a male/fe duo that i've never been able to find anything from ever since.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:54pm kat330:

Irene, did I mishear, or did you say last mic break "There Will Be Jug" as an album title? Or was that your wonderful wordplay of what was about to play?
  Mon. 1/27/14 2:56pm 12539:

Thanks for all the crackling, Irene.
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:57pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for tuning in everybody! We'll do it all again next Monday at noon.
  Mon. 1/27/14 2:58pm van:

Yay! Christine McVie set to rejoin Fleetwood Mac! 16 years away - too long.

Great show, thanks Irene! Have a great week everybody
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:59pm coelacanth:

And Peter Green?!!! (i guess not.)
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 2:59pm kat330:

Thank YOU!
Avatar Mon. 1/27/14 3:00pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Thank you Irene, wonderful show
