I used to do library gig in High School for 4 yrs...media page. I might go back to that type of gig if I can somehow snag a job...but it's tough the economy is killing it, I think. Unless you're a HS or college kid. urghh.

I have a friend that got his PHd in Library Sciences and now works in a library in DC.
  Thu. 1/23/14 1:31pm LovecraftDude888:

sometimes I think I should have gone for the BA and then MA in Lib. Sciences from get go..but I wasn't thinking of that at the time I started college and had some false start or sorta. And Comm. seemed sexier...now it doesn't. Since the jobs are crap and hard to ever get...half the time. Film..yeah right. Radio good luck. TV. .maybe. I dunno, man. But library doesn't
pay super high but it's enjoyable work.
  Thu. 1/23/14 1:31pm LovecraftDude888:

And we had some hotties working at my library....I would get knocked out reading in the stacks and seeing this one girl Jessica come down with her huge melons and cart of books....I was like hey mama let me shelve those titles for ye
  Thu. 1/23/14 1:33pm LovecraftDude888:

it didn't come off though. At least it was like, a low-key work environment, I liked it more than any corporate gig I ever did that's for bloody well sure.

  Thu. 1/23/14 1:44pm LovecraftDude888:

yeah we had some cute girls at my library in those days, but some of them were just frankly, utter beotches. I mean...that's the truth. Not all though. Some nice ones. Some were just utterly nasty to each other. Way o the world. I had to throw down my HPL when I saw that Jessica come down with that rack...very distracting.
Avatar Thu. 1/23/14 1:46pm Elisa In Italy:

LovecraftDude888: Maybe they weren't nice cause they caught you checking out their "rack."

That's fine, Diane. No worries.
  Thu. 1/23/14 1:47pm LovecraftDude888:

nah I was a gentleman always. Trust me. Like one of them Maureen was such a bitch..one girl started there she was nice but homely a bit...and Maureen started calling her "ZILLA". Not nice.

  Thu. 1/23/14 1:49pm LovecraftDude888:

i swear I'm not making that up. Total true tale. Sad. I wasn't raised to be nasty like that to people. Girls can be cruel, and bullies I like even less. Or anything like that. Anyway, maybe I will skip the library gig !
  Thu. 1/23/14 1:50pm LovecraftDude888:

but plenty of jerks in corporate gigs too.
  Thu. 1/23/14 1:52pm LovecraftDude888:

God thinking of how low tech we were then...I'd sit there in break room with my stupid panasonic walkman haha! Thinking I was so high tech. Not. I recall being the only one who carried a Walkman around...which was odd. I'm like how can you guys walk around with no music?
  Thu. 1/23/14 1:54pm LovecraftDude888:

One good thing was getting new novels and stuff before they were released to bookstores, or weeks ahead. So fun! Books In Print was the bible. Now it's like..ebooks in screen

Avatar Thu. 1/23/14 2:07pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

I am trying to remember this guy that was compared to an Italian Tom Waits. They used to play his songs at this Italian joint I worked at. Anyone know? I think he also played a ukelele type instrument at times.
  Thu. 1/23/14 2:08pm LovecraftDude888:

Sean..haha! Alright! Trust me you're better off doing that than some bloody Wall St. gig. or even media...I worked at Billboard Pubs. for a year or so once...in midtown....it was kind of cruddy and miserable, I thought. Very plastic all around. Mainly.

  Thu. 1/23/14 2:09pm LovecraftDude888:

I saw Billy Bragg at The Ritz midtown around 1990 with like the whole band..rare. And Nat merchant and Stipe showing up at the end. Was great damn show. And Dave Kendall showing up to annoy all of us.

haha nice! I might still apply for a library gig. We'll see. The local one is amazingly good. Only good thing in this town. The town that Cassavetes Escaped....good lord. Actually the more I think about it...someone should really open a Cassavetes Center!! That would be awesome. But too difficult to get funding I would think.
