Looks like local authorities didn't magically turn less dumb with the new year: a concert by an ensemble from Mongolia was scheduled for next week, but they were denied a visa. The official spin is that's to protect employment of French musicians
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56am
Guido (Cologne):

@fred
Culture-protection like in the old days.
But that stud .... ?
Avatar 7:56am
Dave Bombay:

That sucks. I didnt realize that French Musicians were that big of a threat...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am
Guido (Cologne):

... typo, I meant:
But that stupid .... ?
Avatar 8:00am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...of course, the use of 'Left' & 'Right' in political terms comes from France in the 1st place - always interesting, sometimes harrowing to watch (& a good chunk of my DNA from there...)
- of course, WW II followed the Depression: take out the money - everybody's an Anti-Immigrant Economically-Conservative Nationalist all of a sudden...
Avatar 8:01am
Polk Biggins:

Wow..! Good on you, playing the Urinals' 'I'm a Bug'...I love OBNOX's cover of this tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01am
fred:

@Guido: It happens regularly, even for established festivals. Once they suggested hiring Corsican singers instead of a Vietnamese ensemble, for a festival of Southeast Asian music. I think most of the musicians from Mongolia who live in Europe are in Germany, so you may have more of that music nearby than I do

... seems like ... but I better stay humble ...
... there are no borders for official dullness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12am

France seems to be in a bad way at the moment. all the Dieudonne stuff is madness. still, if you have a "Socialist" leader doing arms deals with the Saudis, there's nowhere left to go, really...
Avatar 8:33am
Sem Chumbo:

a.k.a. Thin Ice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36am

@ausmanx: At the moment? Dieudonne has being doing such things for years, and this country has always been willing to sell arms to anyone. Socialist is just the team's name, they're (almost) all rich aging white guys who've know each others for decades.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50am

@ausmanx: Context. To it's mainly a distraction, but that context includes the Front National's effort to clean-up the worst of their image. Saying the quenelle is really a nazi salute is in part a response to that
