Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

This is the best thing I've ever heard.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:03pm Ken From Hyde Park:

More like a "What year was that song from?" test.

Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:05pm Matt from Springfield:

@Ken HP: I was wondering if it was a Best singles of the 70s list, but then there were 60s and 80s songs in there.

...guy visits his old Dad @ the Home - they're all sitting around saying #s to each other & laughing uproariously. He asks his Dad what's up & is told, 'We've told the old jokes so much we just refer to them by # now. Try it!'
- so he says - '32 !!'
...No one laughs...
- Old Dad tells him - 'Well son - some people can tell a joke - some can't'...

Best part of having the day off is listening to the BT show without the bandwidth police bothering me. Sounds like 80s college radio all over again. Merry new year.

Who is Charles Bradley and where has he been all this time!
Diddo here, steve!
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- The Slade shows their sense of dynamics - & the dynamics they had. & I'd rather hear this than the Sabbath original (shows how good the song is), I think (do plenty of other Sabbath listening)...
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- xactly Matt.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:32pm Chris from DC:

Matt turns out Bradley's actually playing in DC in a couple of weeks. I'm a little curious about that one.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:32pm Matt from Springfield:

"He is the subject of a documentary, Soul of America, that premiered at South by Southwest in 2012."
Daptone is great at pulling the shiny gems out of the stream, great as ever.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:33pm Matt from Springfield:

@Chris: Oooh, must investigate.
@RRN63: Fine Wine pulls some really obscurities, I think he operates a radio time machine--broadcasting plays of jukeboxes from 45 years ago.

Whenever I turn on commercial radio in the car. I always feel like I need to take shower afterwards.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:42pm Parq:

Commercial radio in the car? Man, that's what those little iPod jacks are for!
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:42pm KOTJ:

That Robert Wyatt work is outstanding but most are 20 minutes making them hard for radio play.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...like you & all the rekkids been marinated in stupidity & greed you mean ??...
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:43pm Brian Turner:

Not in my rental car!
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...wanna shower just thinking about it...
- Yeah sounds as good as Soft Machines release...
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...as Soft Machine releases...sheesh...
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:48pm DCE:

just ordered the Wyatt...looking forward to all the great music from 40+ years ago to enjoy in 2014!
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:51pm Parq:

Brian, consider switching rental agencies. I haven't had a rental car without one of those in years.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:54pm efd:

A couple of summers ago I had a rental car for a Cinci/Detroit trip that only had a CD player and radio. No other audio options available.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:55pm Chris from DC:

Aw yeah!
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:56pm efd:

That was the summer I learned that there was no such thing as a CD car stereo adapter like there is for cassette decks. :/
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...there's them little transmitters you can plug into a pod (or whatever) & listen over the car radio
- probably a pain in the ass (?) w/ batteries running out, &tc. ...
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 3:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Aw man! I would've guessed there was, just because I knew about those cassette adaptors.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:00pm Parq:

They make these little broadcast transmitter adapters that you can plug into your iPod and broadcast it to an unused frequency on the FM radio. The trouble is, in a big city like NY (and, I assume, Detroit), the waveband is too crowded and you can't find a clean empty signal.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:00pm Parq:

Achh, sorry RevRab, I see you beat me to it.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:02pm efd:

Matt, I just assumed there would be too for the same reason! But no dice, and I guess when you think about the transport mechanics of a CD player vs. a cassette (i.e. no shell to stuff other electronics into) it makes sense that there isn't.)

Parq/RRN63, we tried one of those when we couldn't find a CD adapter, but couldn't get it to transmit clearly so we returned it and bought some CDs.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:03pm Ike:

Some of those things have awful, awful sound quality.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...but I don't know detais
...guess it's called an iTrip
- & maybe they're not bad - & maybe on the long trips yer outta the City like that ??...
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:04pm steve:

Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- not surprised efd, Ike...
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:06pm efd:

steve, we definitely used that as a backup.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...a simple headphone jack input would do it...
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:07pm Parq:

Just so we're clear, I'm talking about these little mini-stereo jacks on the car radio or sometimes hidden elsewhere. You get a male-to-male mini stereo cable, and you can tell the local broadcasting industry to eat it.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

: ) parq
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:08pm DCE:

@ Parq, they put mine in the damned glove box (Ford Focus), so I've clipped a couple of cables already. Stupid stupid stupid design.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:08pm DCE:

not to mention the stock sound system in that car SUCKS ASS
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:09pm DCE:

or did I just mention that?
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:09pm Parq:

I laugh, DCE, only because that's just the kind of thing I'd do.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the glove box...next thing yer gonna tell me it runs on fossil fuel like some 1890s invention...
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:11pm Parq:

Not to go off-topic, but Brian, today's selections are killing me.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:11pm steve:

if im ever in that situation my plan is to do my own extended scat rendition of The Chase by Giorgio Moroder
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:12pm Local Broadcast Industry:

Huh. I'm gonna call the download police on you, mahfuckah.
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:13pm glenn:

what are the odds that mr ayers and miss nico may have gotten down with it, as the kids say?

According to the Wire, Lady Gaga gives writing credit to Sun Ra on her single, "Venus". She lifts the first line from "Rocket Number 9".
Avatar Tue. 12/31/13 4:48pm Brian Turner:

She lifts a lot more than the line. Hope the proceeds from royalties are going to the right place.
