Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Pardon my ignorance? What Genre would one classify that Tobin under?
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:08pm JakeGould:

Electronic. Electro if you are a d-bag.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:09pm Ike:

When I first volunteered at FMU, there was a framed photo of a tombstone with the word "genre" on it. Loved that.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thx! ...Nice Ike!
...Dawned on me to chech his wigkey:
'Electronic' if not very specific, free of pretense or exclusivity...

"Wigkey?" Ha ha, RRN63.

...I can appreciate Purists' dedication & self-knowledge (what they like), & how they are often Preservationists (of good stuff that needs it)

faye's on, must listen. hello children.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:15pm Ike:

I'm so full of kanafeh and muhammara and fesenjān and atol de elote and crazy Iranian rice pudding. Good grief. I need to go climb a mountain to work all of this off.
  Sat. 11/16/13 9:16pm 12539:

@RRN63: it takes all kinds.

Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:19pm Ike:

Which issue, Mike? I'm waaaaay behind on my New Yorkers. I had to "cheat" and skip ahead to read the awesome Dr. Who article by Jill Lepore.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:20pm JakeGould:

I had defining genres since the main purpose of them is not to help the listener, but pigeon hole content for marketing.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oh yeah - Dr. Who & JFK's death & 'With The Beatles' & I all turn 50 (& share every Anniversary) together...
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:21pm Mike East:

there was a "food issue" a few weeks back. a lot of good pieces in that one.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:23pm JakeGould:

I’m so happy NYC media is finally focusing on food. They never talk about food.

Love your mood.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:25pm Ike:

Found it, Mike -- that's the one I'm about to start reading, the Nov. 4 issue. Looking forward to the article on "the Greek yogurt wars."

That was a particularly good issue.

Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Yes tune in question - 'Starship Troopers' - ??...
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:56pm JakeGould:

@RRNov63 I deal with seasonal nonsense by admitting the weight on my head is from seasonal nonsense. And then if people annoy me I am honest without curses. It works! A bit.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 9:59pm Kristina Koffee:

They say light therapy helps... until I get a light timer all I can do is tell myself "think about the summer, think about the summer"
  Sat. 11/16/13 10:00pm 12539:

@RRN63 - I think that was the tune, perhaps the coda.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:00pm JakeGould:

I work all day in a windowless office. So when it is sunny out I go out. Also, making sure I get enough vitamin D. The real stuff, not the slang for the big D. Helps.

- I take St. Johnswort & dream of affording the West Coast (or anywhere the damn sun shines) & moving back.
- Light Therapy! - right.
...Checked YouTube - it is 'Starship Trooper' - but Steve Howe might only be on the cover photo of that album (see Comments on last Clay Pigeon show!) - yeah the coda (9+minutes long)...
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:06pm Droll:

The Star Trek theme actually does have (awful) lyrics, Bradbury wrote them after the fact to collect royalties: www.snopes.com...

I live in Seattle, and despite being overcast 9 months of the year, the Pacific Northwest has high skin cancer rates because when the sun does come out everyone runs outside and gets a sunburn.

Hey Faye! Whaddya say?
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:07pm JakeGould:

The Pacific Northwest sounds like Wales. Ever seen Welsh folks in the summer? It looks like radiation poisoning.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Roddenberry - not Bradbury! : )
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:08pm Faye:

Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:10pm Droll:

When you move to Seattle people ask you how you're adapting to the wet and dark. When you move to Tucson or LA, do people ask how you're dealing with all the sunshine?
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:10pm JakeGould:

I will say this: Every winter I get strong cravings for burgers & fries.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I never read nothin' 'awful' by Bradbury - whatever his shortcomings! (kneesocks w/ shorts, par example??)...
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:12pm fleep:

In LA they ask how you're dealing with the freeways. In Chicago they ask you're dealing with the gunfire. Each city has its own miserable cachet.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:12pm JakeGould:

Rodenberry. Not Bradbury.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:13pm Kristina Koffee:

Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:14pm JakeGould:

How did you know your parrot like classical piano?
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:15pm fleep:

Faye, this is our first genuinely cold, damp, gloomy winter evening (it was 90 on Wednesday), and your choices are perfect.

Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:16pm Droll:

Jake, Ahhh, yes, wrong Berry Brother. Never been to Wales, closest was Cheltenham, the UK certainly has some similar weather and daylight patterns to Seattle.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...is said: it's not that it rains all the time in Seattle - it's that there's *little sun*...
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:18pm JakeGould:

This is at least not like the midwest. I lived in Wisconsin for a stint. Loved the snow. Even the cold. Then 3 years in… BOOM! The seasonal affective stuff. That was actually the first time I ever felt that. And now—ever since—I get it in the winter. Whodathunk!
  Sat. 11/16/13 10:19pm 12539:

(I love this Mammane Sani)
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:20pm Kristina Koffee:

@jake it was fun to play music for him because if it was heavy in vocals he might not like it. I'd know cause he'd get agitated and start squawking. But if it was simple and melodic, (like Satie) he'd just stop what he was doing and listen very intently, then he'd just get comfortable and sit down and listen raptly. Very interesting. Very cute.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:20pm fleep:

I get grumpy in the spring. Also summer, winter, and autumn.
Avatar Sat. 11/16/13 10:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

"A Macy's parade spokesman said Friday, Nov. 15, that Joan Jett and her band the Blackhearts, who were to be on the float in the 2013 parade, will be moved to another float after ranchers complained about having a vegetarian and animal rights advocate representing their state. A new performer to be announced later will be on the South Dakota float."

Bonus: The story shows a picture of Don McLean on the 2012 float! Boooo!
