Good evening/morning, Therese!

Therese! Nice transition.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:05am northguineahills:

haven't heard this is eons.... nice start!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:10am pacific standard simon:

Ah, for the days when Donovan still sounded like a progressive alternative to mainstream pop.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:10am JakeGould:

Ira Hayes. Thank you!
  Mon. 11/11/13 12:12am Steve-O:

Hi Therese. How are you? Been a while since I heard Johnny Cash, btw.....awesome. =)
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:12am northguineahills:

Ira Hayes, always a tear-jerker.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:13am Matt from Springfield:

Always Remember...Veterans.

Hi Therese, thanks for these nice selections! Hi everyone!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:15am Matt from Springfield:

From the Man In Black into good ol' Laura Cantrell!
I first heard Iron & Wine's version of "Love Vigilantes", and was amazed to hear it was originally a New Order song. Then I happened to hear the original on XM--this is a great song, all the versions I've heard are great!
  Mon. 11/11/13 12:16am Steve-O:

Hey, It's Laura from Radio Thrift Shop! Awesome.

@Matt: Hey man. One of my grampas was in the Air Force during Korea, though he never flew as far as I knew; he was a bomber loader guy. =)
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:16am JakeGould:

Geez man! Johnny Cash! Woulda been Welcome - Heralded even - in any prison, on any Reservation, any Gospel Revival, any Country bar, any Punk club...most Oval Offices...
  Mon. 11/11/13 12:18am KP:

Hey Therese.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:18am Matt from Springfield:

Hey Steve-O! It takes a lot of skilled people on the ground to keep planes running, everyone matters! :)

Both my grandpas were in the Korean War demographic of veterans--both Navy, and both on ships at the time. But like I said, it takes all kinds to help out.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:20am David L.B. is RRN63:

- the 'forgotten war'...
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:20am Matt from Springfield:

Hey RRN63! Johnny is brilliant, he must have the broadest appeal of any American musician.
Hey KP!
  Mon. 11/11/13 12:22am P-90:

Good Morning ,Therese! Inspired opening set. LOVE Laura Cantrell, never miss her (now) occasional R.T. Shop shifts.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:22am pacific standard simon:

Veteran's Day is a much more complicated day for those of us who lived through the years of Vietnam War. If it hadn't been for that, I might feel less uncomfortable with the phrase, "Thank you for your service."
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:22am Matt from Springfield:

Black Hollies!

@RRN63: The "police action"...President this Mem Day/60th anniversary of the war said to its veterans how it was downplayed at the time, but really they *won* the war, they prevented the Kims from taking all of Korea like they wanted (and still want).
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:23am KP:

Hey, back on! The old reboot never fails. Well sometimes it does.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:23am David L.B. is RRN63:

...as historian Niall Ferguson said - the Cold War was only 'cold' if you were actually in the U.S. or U.S.S.R. - it was pretty 'hot' everywhere else !...
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:23am JakeGould:

@Pacific Standard Simon: Blame the leaders for the wars. Support the soldiers.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:23am Matt from Springfield:

@Therese: Not to complain, but something sounds off in your mic--I heard you in both stereo channels, but your voice sounded kinda scratchy??
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:24am David L.B. is RRN63:

War is not the Answer. But who's listening?
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:25am JakeGould:

Peace sells. But who’s buying?
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:25am KP:

Black Hollies played the last real record fair. They were quite awesome.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:25am pacific standard simon:

I said it was complicated -- the soldiers were the ones who made it possible for the leaders to lead an unjust war.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:25am Matt from Springfield:

Cold War, "cold" for white people! (North Americans and Europeans), "hot" in all those Third World proxy wars fought on our behalves!

"Peace Sells, But Who's Buying?"...
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:27am David L.B. is RRN63:

...then again - seven billion homo sapiens & rising ? I don't have any better answers than Obama - a war president - did when he accepted his Nobel peace prize...
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:29am Matt from Springfield:

@PSS/Jake: Exactly. Cheney/Rummy/Wolfy/Perles at the top are powerful and will get the wars they want -- it's up to us to slap them in the face, and give solidarity to the troops affected by their terrible decisions, who volunteered and signed a blank check to the United States, up to and including their lives.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:30am David L.B. is RRN63:

...the U.S. was founded by Isolationists who wanted to split w/ the European wars between monarchs
- but then Manifest Destiny & the Industrial Revolution happened & we became Economically immense
- & then the World Wars - & we became the Arsenal of Democracy. If only I believed in our leaders & American foreign policy: Kissinger, 'America does not have friends - it has interests'...
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:30am JakeGould:

Matt, chill out. This will all be solved when we discover fusion & benevolent aliens come to Earth to show us the true meaning of love.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:32am KP:

Where is Bobbie Gentry?
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:32am Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: I thought the aliens already came down, 10,000 years ago to give us civilization. Well then I look forward to whatever else they've got for us next! :)

Also, jinx on the "peace sells"! :)
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:33am KP:

Hey, Matt.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:33am KP:

Kenny sounded better as Dolly.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:33am JakeGould:

Thanks for the jinx. Now can you buy me some General Tso’s Chicken & send it my way? Nothing is open here.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:34am JakeGould:

See. I want chicken. But the kind I want has a war-footing since it’s named after a General. What kind of monsters are we?
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:35am Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: After midnight here, but Malek's Pizza would still be open; I can send a pizza or gyro to you through the SnackuPlaylist™ (once Kenzo makes that function available)...
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:35am pacific standard simon:

Kenny says, Ruby don't take your love to town, or I'll climb out of this veteran's wheelchair and blow you away.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:36am JakeGould:

Screw that. I had pizza before. Now I want chicken. Everything is closed. I thought NYC was the city that never sleeps. Lies.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:37am Matt from Springfield:

"The dish is named after General Tso Tsung-tang, or Zuo Zongtang, a Qing dynasty general and statesman, although there is no recorded connection to him. The real roots of the dish lie in the post-1949 exodus of chefs to the United States."

WHAT?! I thought NYC never slept TOO!!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:37am KP:

Matt is there anything open in Va. after 11 besides Wawa> Not that im knocking Wawa.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:37am Matt from Springfield:

@PSS: The title track is another apropos song for 11/11!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:39am Matt from Springfield:

@KP: 'Round my neck there's the aforementioned "Malek's Pizza Palace", "Q-Ball" and other so-called "bars"--but up in Vienna there's the Amphora Diner: 24/7!! And AMAZING!!!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:41am pacific standard simon:

My own personal, bitter feelings about the Veteran's Day scam can be corrected by forcing all radio stations to play John Prine's "Sam Stone" for 24 hours once a year.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:41am Matt from Springfield:

Epicure Cafe in Fairfax and Pialeh hookah in West Springfield are also open till 2, I believe.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:41am JakeGould:

I wish there were a real non-creepy diner around me. Damn it. Have avoided meat for about 4 days & eating better but right now I need General Tso’s 1949 Chicken.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:42am BadGuyZero:

FACT: General Tso's mother was killed by chickens. He sought vengeance for her death by eating as many chickens as possible.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:43am KP:

How did the Men become CSNY?
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:43am David L.B. is RRN63:

...& most of the people who die for their country are poor, disproportionately minorities - & 19 years old or something...still have their baby fat...you can see the Honor Roll every stinking night on PBS NewsHour...
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:44am KP:

I do my part to help the General.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:44am Matt from Springfield:

@PSS: Ah, I have heard that one! That's a good song. Also, sung by both Johnny and Laura Cantrell! No coincidence!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:45am BadGuyZero:

Please take a moment today to remember the forgotten veterans of the KISS Army.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:45am Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: The chickens were attracted to some burnt sugar on his mother's apron--which is why he added so much sugar to the spicy sauce, to consume as much of that as well.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:45am KP:

Matt, when i went down there it used to be on Beltway but now it's halfway to Richmond, pretty quiet.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:46am David L.B. is RRN63:

...& all those people who 'support the troops' don't give a crap about veterans - for whom the country does next to nothing after asking them to do what is outside the boundaries of normal 'society'...shit...
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:46am JakeGould:

Saw someone on the train today wearing leggings with artwork from KISS’s “Destroyer.” Not a good look.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:46am Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: "They issued me the tins of black and white makeup, I put on my outfit...they totally didn't prepare me for what came next, none of us were the same after..."

wow, Wooden Shjips sounds mellow/
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:47am Matt from Springfield:

Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:47am David L.B. is RRN63:

Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:48am KP:

Matt, if can talk about it, you werent there.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:48am BadGuyZero:

@Matt: Nobody should have had to endure the Vinnie Vincent "ankh" era.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:49am KP:

Around Occoquan there's one. It's like hidden almost.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:51am KP:

Vinnie Vincent sounds like the name of every drummer i ever played with on Lawn Guyland.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Everything will belong to the Sun when it goes RedGiant & expands & engulfs the Earth. We'll all be Veterans of Earth then.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

HaHar KP!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:54am JakeGould:

Vinnie Vincent looks like a desiccated hooker on an HBO show.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 12:56am KP:

woooo! Wooden Shjips/ How cool, Therese!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:02am Matt from Springfield:

TacoCopter...(sinking in)
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:02am BadGuyZero:

Is the taco copter the cousin of the taco cannon from Fun Fun Fun Fest?
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:03am JakeGould:

There are some taco places open late near me. But I want General Tso’s chicken.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:05am Matt from Springfield:

WHOA! Lisa Jane Persky was there--that's heavy of her! Awesome!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:05am BadGuyZero:

Lisa Jane Persky was also in "KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park."
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:06am egal:

Cherie Currie!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:06am Matt from Springfield:

Taco cannon? Is that like a T-shirt cannon w/ artificial hot sauce included?

OH, that's right--Cherie Currie on Dark Night of the Soul this week! Nov 14, 3-6 a.m.! Score, Julie!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:07am BadGuyZero:

@Matt: Basically. It shoots tacos. Not sure about the hot sauce.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:09am BadGuyZero:

Dammit...I'll be a week too late to cross paths with The Old Codger. Call a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahmbulance.
  Mon. 11/11/13 1:09am RCinMT:

Sorry I'm late, just got back from Jonathan Richman and Tommy Larkin here in Bozeman. Most sincere funny improvised testimonial to Lou Reed of all the tributes I've heard, and I've heard a lot. Playlist looks great, look forward to more great music this evening.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:10am Matt from Springfield:

But not a Wham!bulance.

Wow, distance delivery of tacos.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:11am BadGuyZero:

Did they modify a laser whip for use on this song?
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:16am JakeGould:

Burritos would work better in a cannon.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:18am KP:

Matt, did you see the shot of Joe McGasko with Cherie Currie? She looked pretty nice.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:18am Matt from Springfield:

LOVING these William Onyeabor cuts!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:19am Matt from Springfield:

@KP: Wow, where's that pic at?
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:19am BadGuyZero:

Burritos would work better. But it's Austin, so they keep it weird by using tacos instead.

I'm just surprised it's not a chicken & waffles cannon.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:20am JakeGould:

Thank you Austin!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:21am BadGuyZero:

Incidentally...there's a place in Austin that has chicken & waffle tacos. The waffle takes the place of the traditional corn-/flour-based taco shell.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:22am JakeGould:

I need to go. Too much chicken talk.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:23am Matt from Springfield:

Ha! I'd enjoy a burrito or chick&waffles taco cannon!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:24am Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: What are ya, chicken??! ;)
But really, have a good night!
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:25am Yair Yona:

this William Onyeabor track is amazing. I thought it's a lost Bob Chance song.
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 1:25am KP:

Matt ... sorry no idea. I thought it was the day after Julie first mentioned it but it's not on his playlist/ He looked suitably embarrassed.

Maybe Dr. Zismore is one of those ALIENS! They're back, and they've come for our facial skin!!!
  Mon. 11/11/13 2:52am Steve-O:

Great show, as usual, Therese.....thanks so much! =)
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 2:53am Matt from Springfield:

MNN--Manhattan Neighborhood Network, maybe?

Dr. Zismore's face is only a composite, representing all aliens coming in their second attempt to bring us peace and love, and take some facial skin too.

Therese is getting zizzy.
  Mon. 11/11/13 2:54am Steve-O:

Y'know, I just noticed.....Therese hasn't made a single comment on here....ain't that unusual?
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 2:55am Matt from Springfield:

Not unheard of, but yes certainly not usual, for Therese.
  Mon. 11/11/13 2:57am Steve-O:

@Matt: In any case, this Zismore guy sounds kinda quirky.....the silly jokey conspiracy theories that Amedeo's comin' up with are even quirkier! =D
Avatar Mon. 11/11/13 2:58am Matt from Springfield:

Take the "Z" Train!

@Steve-O: Theories like the Interwebz, but funnier! :D
  Mon. 11/11/13 2:59am Steve-O:

@Matt: Yup.

Alright, then, bring on the amEdeo show! Thanks again for a fun time, Therese! =)

A zizmor sounds like it would be a lightning energy unit.

"That bolt measured 67 zizmors."

We were also joined by his wife, Alexandra Zizmor, who helps pull the strings in marketing the man that New Yorkers have been saying, "Thank you, Dr. Zizmor!" to for over thirty years.

The Dead Milkmen have a song called "Blood Orgy Of The Atomic Fern."
