Today's show, which is dedicated to Tom Scharpling, will be featuring some music from James Brown or rather James Brown and the supertalented JBs band - which, to me, is the very best music ever recorded - truly a desert island disc - one could live off of JBs music all day everyday. This week will not be playing much MC stuff - but mainly DJ/producer type tracks including some remixes. Lined up to play today (will be playing a lot of very short tracks) are such artists as DJ Mayonnaise, J Dilla, DJ Mek, DJ Yoda, DJ PNutz, DJ Quad, DJ Vajra, DJ Moschops, A-Trak, DJ Devastate, DJ Spooky, Handsome Boy Modeling School feat. DJ S, Magic City DJs, DJ Technics, DJ Shadow, and DJ Jester The Filipino Fist - to name but some. Thanks for listening to WFMU - the best damn station on the planet Janet!
PS today's show is dedicated to Tom Scharpling, who recently announced he will be moving on from the station in a month, and to thank him and his crew from The Best Show for all the amazing years on WFMU of consistently bringing magic to the airwaves every Tuesday on F M U with the most unpredictable incredibly entertaining radio show (truly "The Best Show")- the sort of shit you could not turn off. Funny. Addictive. And most surprisingly carefully scripted - a testament to what convincing characters Tom and Jon Wurster would play - and also of the endless hours of preparation that Tom poured into each week's show on this volunteer driven station. As for the flow of amazing guests that came thru The Best Show on the regular? Off the hook! But what I loved also about Tom Scharpling's show was his music selections and his knowledge/love of music including hip-hop. WFMU is gonna miss Tom Scharpling and The Best Show - thanks B 2 fook for the WFMU Archives!
