Live performance by Mark Humble & Friends (Dave Foster, Chris North, Jamie Morris)
Beatlesque pop songs with melodic hooks are Mark Humble's specialty. After working on a couple of albums, Humble stepped back from music making for over 10 years, dipping his toes back in with a few solo performances and the release of "One Centre Street" about a year ago. Mark, with a little help from his friends, has jumped back into performing with, as he says, "musical skills, thrills, passion and abandon. Mistakes will be made on a grand scale. A handsaw will be used. Three part harmony will be sung. A double bass will vie for attention with a screaming electric guitar." Come listen to those musical thrills!

Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:05pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Everybody! Welcome to Monday! hope you've made a contribution to our fundraiser for the Studio of Tomorrow (click on the box above to make a pledge). I'm running back and forth to the live room to set up for a live performance for Mark Humble, so apologies if I don't respond immediately.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:06pm Mike East:

Was just talking last week, wondering when someone is going to come out with a definitive Badfinger documentary the way they did with Nilsson. Both are extremely underappreciated...and this song ties them together.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:07pm efd:

This Nilsson record was one of the very first singles I bought.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:16pm Tome:

...*Titus Oaks* been there many many times,, and have not one 7" left boohoo ,,, bit.ly...
  Mon. 10/21/13 12:18pm Ted:

Which Beach Boys album is that from? Sounds like Blondie Chaplin era?
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:19pm Andrew Waterloo:

I bought a Nilsson 45 last week.

  Mon. 10/21/13 12:21pm 12539:

Setting up a band is as good as a doctor's note, for excusing playing actual vinyl records.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:21pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Mike, One is the Lonliest Number
  Mon. 10/21/13 12:24pm don:

Irene- Long Promised Road reached #89; not a smash hit. Band not considered hip during this time and they made some of their best music from Sunflower through Holland...so they were completely ignored on the charts.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:29pm Sem Chumbo:

Just joining in now, Irene. Glad to be listening along.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:30pm Andrew Waterloo:

I picked up a bunch of odds and ends from the 45 bin including Flying Lizards, M, Tear Drop Explodes..
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:45pm InBrkly:

the Money single?
  Mon. 10/21/13 12:45pm Ted:

Irene - Today's playlist is like a night at my house when the wine's flowing and the sentimental records fight their way to the front of the collection! Like as in SPOT ON! Awesome!
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:45pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Classic Todd, you have made my day, Irene
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:49pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Ted & Sean! Happy to make your days a little pleasanter. @don, I knew Long Promised Road didn't get that high in the charts. Great song anyway, and funny that they would think it "hit single" material.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:49pm common:

love this traffic tune!
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:50pm Droll:

A solid set of AM Gold! I wish I were listening on a pocket transistor radio to get the full effect. Mono rules!
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 12:50pm InBrkly:

Needs more sitar!

can be with bread, a bacon nutty is a classic
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Butties rawk!

Yellow matter custard / green slop pie / Mix it all together with a dead dog's eye / Slap it on a buttie / Ten feet thick / And wash it all down with a cup of cold sick!
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:09pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Excellent, Matt
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:13pm Matt from Springfield:

That children's chant is from my Beatles trivia. Though I'd like to try that "bacon nutty"!

Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:22pm Droll:

Trick is a notoriously difficult band to cover properly, but this is a blistering rendering!
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:28pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks again, Mark & Friends!

Thanks Julie, Bill and all contributors!
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:35pm Matt from Springfield:

K8!!! :D
Orig 7" too, excellent!
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:37pm Roberto:

I don't believe in an omnipotent higher being per se. I do, however, believe that the existence of Kate Bush is proof that someone or something out there likes us.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:41pm KP:

Irene, i always tell people that the Happy Jack era Who was the first concert i attended. But really it was the Association, and i am now accepting that.
  Mon. 10/21/13 2:41pm don:

The Association still going strong with 4 orginal members---a beautiful song often overlooked-most people know 'Windy' (yea Ruthann Friedman) and 'Cherish' but for me this song and the album it's on, "Birthday" is their high watermark. Like Beach Boys, they were pigeonholed as 'corny', but they never escaped that.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:41pm KP:

Hey Matt, thanks for mention!
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:42pm Matt from Springfield:

  Mon. 10/21/13 2:42pm ?:

Thanks for the KaTe!
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:45pm KP:

Also good to see so many hearts here indicating love for station. Sometimes there are few, and it often seems the ones who have the most to say have the least to offer.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:47pm Irene Trudel:

I've always loved The Association. Those harmonies and song structures are just killer! And Everything That Touches You might be the first thing I actually was aware of as one of their tunes (I was kind of a young'un in those days).
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:48pm KP:

Your folks told you about the Association, you mean.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:52pm Irene Trudel:

;D Yeah, my parents (radio). So true, @KP! Lots of love coming our way in the form of pledges for this great radio station. Where else would we have the freedom we enjoy at this place?? Please get a last minute
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:53pm common:

love the association too, Irene. I love that song toy maker.
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 2:55pm Sem Chumbo:

Well now, a little Hank in the afternoon is just what this Nova Scotian likes, a lot.
  Mon. 10/21/13 2:57pm ?:

Thanks for The Pentangle too!
  Mon. 10/21/13 2:57pm 12539:

Thanks, Irene (& Guests).
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 3:00pm Sean in Bristol UK:

That was truly wonderful, Irene, thank you so much and thank you to Mark Humble and Friends
Avatar Mon. 10/21/13 3:01pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Irene, Mark & Friends and Pledgers!
